Eatliftsleep: Get Yo' Ass In Here!

How’s your gf handling the prep? I know long bouts of low carb make me quite cranky. Is she pretty understanding that you’re suffering, or has it been difficult?

she lifts too and is actually prepping as well, she’s about 17 weeks out though but way ahead of schedule. She’s totally understanding of everything and I couldn’t ask for someone better. I do get cranky here and there and short tempered but with her it’s not nearly as bad because she’s so sweet and understanding. She lives the lifestyle just as much as I do and has the same passion so it really works out.

My experience with cheat meals/windows is that they are nothing short of miraculous if your diet leading up to it has been doing what it needs to do (calorie deficit, depleting glycogen, etc…). You may find that it works so well you will wonder why you havent been doing it every week as I prefer to do (Although I follow a super strict Keto diet when I cut down from day 1 basically) Shelby knows what he is doing though, so trust his judgement.

I typically find in my own physique that you go from looking fat/watery the night of the cheat, the next day you still might look a BIT “puffy”, but at the 2-3 days-later mark its like “holy shit, I lost a weeks worth of fat overnight!”

The heat you are experiencing is normal, although it is a bit unusual to have it the next day.

Damn you for posting those pics of delicious tasteful desserts. Thats literally all I saw on this page. What I’d give to crush a half gallon of tiramisu ice cream with hot fudge right now.

Ive enjoyed following this prep thread. Your coming along nicely. Looking good man.

Yes, currently dieting now, I don’t think there’s a time where im not lol. Not competing or anything. I have no desire to at the moment. Maybe in a few years. Just trying to lean out for the summer and get some asthetics back for the beach. I live in Florida so the summers here are brutally hot and humid. I like to look my leanest during these hot times.

Lol I read ya.

How’s your strength coming along? I remember you mentioning you were still gaining strength some weeks back.

Its still steady believe it or not. Im a little slower in the gym but i make myself hit prs on the main lifts if possible. I am starting to feel a bit more ‘‘fragile’’ though lately so we’ll see how that plays in.

The more I read peoples logs on here and have experience with competitors in person at gyms I’ve trained at, the more I really do think the idea of losing LBM while dieting is wildly overblown. Sure, a little might go, but I remember being so scared of literally losing like 10 pounds of muscle when I got shredded the first time, maybe I lost 1, and in fact the old pictures I have show substantial improvement in my shoulders when I focused on overhead pressing during the cut.

As is the “Post Contest Rebound.” I have actually come to the conclusion that your body is primed to store FAT much more than add boat loads of muscle in this time frame, but thats me.

I feel like my body at this point is just dying to start growing. Ill definitely keep you guys updated on the post show binge ill be having. Ill probably give myself a week to just eat whatever. Maybe take a few days off from the gym depending on how im feeling but i know the weight will come pouring on, i just hope its good weight lol

Yeah i definitely agree with the over blown muscle loss. as long as you give them a reason to stick around you should be good. But being depleted and flat is definitely messing with my head some days. it really does make a huge difference imo.

what’re you doing vitamin S wise?

I totally agree. The fact that so many competitors limp across the finish line, totally depleted, what happens isn’t some miraculous muscle gain, but more often simply rehydrating, restoring glycogen stores, even refilling your emptied out GI tract… plenty of ways to “suddenly” gain weight while still looking quite diced.

Id rather not go into detail but nothing crazy, plus A couple cutting compounds. If we could actually pm on this damn site id be more than happy to through there.

woops forgot to update. Had a check in on tuesday. This day was by far the worst day of prep. Just felt like absolute shit. Totally run down and I was not happy with the way I was looking at all. I’ll post a back double bi from that day.

So shelby decided to cut my cardio for 2 days (1hr fasted treadmill steady state, and 20min HIIT cardio a few hrs later) and we also added in 1 cup cooked rice per meal (6 meals a day) for 2 days. So today is my last day with the rice and no cardio. I’ve definitely enjoyed the rice. I swear I could eat it all day long.

I’m happy with how the fat loss is coming along for the most part, but as the show gets closer I’m getting discouraged because I still have a bit of lower ab fat that just doesn’t seem to want to go away. Is this usually the last bit of fat to burn?

So tomorrow I’ll be back on the same routine, low carb with cardio and training and all that. Next update is Saturday. I’ll do my best to update you guys as well for anyone that cares.

i feel like I looked way better 2 weeks ago… is it normal to look worse as you get deeper into prep? or is my head fucking with me? I just feel like I was tighter and harder 2 weeks ago.
