Hey all, need some advice on healthy eating, while trying to save money. Right now I’m trying to sustain strength while losing fat. I’m 19, in the Army so we do quite a bit of cardio in the morning. I also eat mainly at the dining facility which offers some healthy choices, but not a great variety. Mainly chicken is all there is for protein and then a few canned vegetables they heated up, and some unhealthy carbs.
Also, I have about $75 to spend a week on food. I’m mainly thinking of buying chicken and fish to get my protein intake in. Any thoughts?
If you are mainly eating in the dining hall, how many meals per week are you responsible for providing yourself?
Generally I find Costco to be an excellent for eating well on the cheap. Boxed frozen chicken, frozen fish steaks, fresh frozen veg and berries, big sack of white rice, trail mix, flat of eggs and a big tub of yogurt. You have easily provided healthy, easy to prepare meals for one for a week for less than $75. Even if you didn’t have any assistance from the dining hall you’d still be covered.
To really eat healthy AND have a good amount of diversity in your diet, you’re gonna need a bigger budget than 75 bucks a week. It just aint cheap to eat a good, relatively enjoyable diet of very healthy food. My bill comes to about 500 a month before supplements, but i dont have the benefit of abundant free food like you do. Make the most of it, im sure a good deal of it can be worked into a clean cutting diet.
Supplements are cheap and easy for healthy cutting or bulking as well. Dont overlook that.
