From reading articles I have an understanding of what I need to eat, and a lot of it to get size. The problem is that it starts to get expensive. So what is the trick, are there certain stores that sell cheap bulk products that I need to go to, or are there different ways to get the nutrients I need?
costco/sam’s club: skinless/boneless chicken breasts, egg beaters/whole eggs, oats, ect…all these type products are better priced and very available in bulk amounts
Here’s one tip:
Eat out as little as you can. When it’s time to eat, go home or pack a lunch. Keep snacks (fruit, nuts, boiled eggs) on hand in the car to hold you over until you get home.
Try and save you meals out for the weekends or for planned occasions. It seems like nowadays it costs at least $7, usually more like $9, to grab something to eat anywhere decent. At home you can load up on calories for much less. Avoid going out to lunch every day and that alone adds up.
ya It is very expensive to go out to eat I do need to limit it with friends. I will try and look into those stores you mentioned, albertsons where I shop now is not that great for bulk I must admit. Thanks for the advice.
i have been living on an army base overseas…i’ve spent less than 300.oo on food for 3 months.
first off-i wouldnt do this extreme if i were you because it sucks.
at home i applied for and recieved a food stamp card (im in college too). so i spend 150 a month.
I buy non-packaged veggies (like lettuce), yes u have to clean it before you eat it but it’s cheaper than the pre-packaged kind.
also some frozen veggies in BIG bags are cheap.
EVOO keeps you FULL on less!
I can’t afford Metabolic Drive anymore so i search online for huge tubs of nasty-tasting pro powders and chug those for now…they are generic but oh well…
I buy lots of burgers (you can get these cheap) actually the turkey burgers are sometimes cheaper…
buy the fruit on sale- a brown banana wont kill you…trust me. ![]()
shop in the sale isle (dented cans…ect).
beans fill you up
buy grains in bulk - like my only carb is Oatmeal.
thats about all i can offer-hope it helps!
I’m a college student so this is a topic close to my heart. Sams club/costco are awesome for buying bulk products especially oatmeal potatoes rice or whatever carb sources you like.
For my money I usually go with Chicken Thighs and just trim the excess skin and fat off. Don’t be afraid to talk to the butcher at your supermarket and request special orders. Many people will allow you to buy meat very cheap if you buy a certain amount, pick it up late/early in the day.
Eggs are cheap as dirt all the time so if you like them for a protein source you are in luck.
Look for sales in the newspapers. If a local store is selling good steak cuts for 3 dollars a lb or whatever go buy a freezer full. Wait for things like tuna to go on sale and buy as much as you can store.
If possible buy your veggies from a local market, it’ll be cheaper and better for you.
Try to limit other expenses if they are a part of your life, the beers after work, cigarettes, morning starbucks or whatever your vice is will add up. I’d take extra steak during the week than some overpriced coffee 10 times out of 10.
That’s about all I’ve got right now but the simple truth is, to eat more you have to pay more but look around for ways to minimize it and you should be ok.
Canned salmon is cheap as hell if you are willing to deal with it. It’s a mess and takes me forever to clean and de-bone.
go over to your buddies house and raid his pantry and fridge.
