Drugs/Supps That Reduce Cortisol

I am really beginning to suspect that I have high cortisol.
So, my question first question is, what is the best way to get cortisol tested? Blood work or saliva? If saliva, can you recommend a reputable establisment to do such?

Have any of you any experience with cortisol reducing drugs, such as RU-486 or Procaine (GH3/KH3)?

What are some good supplements to reduce cortisol?

Huh, interesting question:

My 2 cents/ I would imagine sense you are speaking of hormonal responses here, you would get blood work done on your test, cholesterol, and red cell count. I would imagine an endocrinologists can get a picture of your cortisol levels.

One of the best ways to reduce cortisol is keeping testosterone levels high. They have an inverse relationship.

The best way to have your cortisol levels checked is through your doctor.

My levels were checked by my endrocinologist and my cortisol result was high, test was slightly below normal. It was a few years ago and I think this was a blood draw to determine these levesl. Cortisol can be elevated when you are under mental stress, or over trained. My doctor suggested a lay off from the gym for two weeksw and to get better sleep. For me his suggestion worked and I was re-tested and all is now normal.

Consider some kind of relaxation therapy (IIRC there’s a fairly proven link between cortisol and stress). I’ve done a bit of this due to allergy & stress related migraines, and when I get an aura (pre-cursor to a full-on headache) I can sit for 3 to 5 minutes doing some simple deep breathing and my stress reduces greatly. My point is you can reduce stress in some simple ways, not just through a year of yoga or tai chi classes…

And has been suggested, if you’re not sleeping well you’re missing a big part of the picture.

Consider some investigation into plant-based therapies for cortisol and/or adrenal health. I’ve nothing against prescription medications per se, but they tend to just attack the symptoms as opposed actually helping your body fix itself, which going to benefit you in the long run. But lots of folks just can’t get passed the desire to pop a pill and have something happen in a day… There are a number of plant-based constituents that can address cortisol levels quite well (Choline, Green Tea, Ashwagandha, plants high in Beta Sitosterol, acetyl-l-carnnitine, Chrysin, phosphatidylserine, etc ,etc) Google is your friend
