Drinker with a Gym Problem

hi attydeb. work isn’t really that killer for me on it’s own, i can hang ok. it’s the “work/life balance” that is pissing me off.

Claire, same thing. i’m do not fear hard work and i actually thrive on the pressure. but this pressure cooker is reaching a point. when i was 19, i worked 2 jobs for 3 summers in a row, about 65 hours a week. not a single day off in the summer. i was young and that was fine.

now, the issue is more of a blatant imbalance of resources at work which has forced our group to pull these ridiculous hours while others are “8-5ers” taking their lunches and breaks like clock work. we are lucky to stuff a bite to eat at our desk while catching up on email or dealing with the other fires.

so, to answer the food question, i have not been able to have my mid am and mid pm mini meals. ok, not training, less calories that is probably good. however, i have had to have a beer or a glass or 2 of wine in the evening during the week which i normally don’t do.

good thing i had started meatbolic surge and got a little bit of a cut on before this (maschy, that is completely out the window for now except for some of the circuit trainings i will try to do)

hi kimba! i never for a second lose sight of the blessing of my job in this economy. i knew at the beginning of the year this would be a very tough year for me and our site. it won’t slow down for a while, probably not until october, it’s been this way since march.

all i can do is make sure i do what makes me happy on the one or if i’m lucky, 2 days off i get. like today. going to wine country to have lunch and pick up a little vino.

but first i’m gonna go get a quick bike ride on. nice thing about a long break??? i’m SORE all over from those 2 lightweight days. YAY!!!

blatant imbalance of resources… i can identify with that.

our new system i’ve bitched so much about? STILL has bugs that corporate knows about and havent been fixed. “yes, it’s annoying, but its not mission critical, so we’ll work around em.” state board of pharmacy came in for inspection… we’re about 60% compliant with regulations. got written up for 3 different things. and it makes me wonder… how did this get approved and installed in SO many stores, and how is it that OUR store just HAPPENED to be the first inspected?

ok. i should go rant in my own log.

hell yeah for your bike ride, and the day off, and lunch in wine country!!

Glad to have ya back Talena…Hang in there. Our busy time is over for a few months finally, so I know it’s hard to train when you are going crazy at work.

since you’re gonna ask anyways, training is going great with the new program. I’ve started cutting back carbs again, so in 4 weeks I should go from 225 to 215. That’s the goal. Really, visible abs are the goal, the weight is just the qualifier.

You’re a beast for keeping the faith!

Sorry ladies, didn’t mean to hijack, but T was going to ask anyways.

Hey edgy-good to see ya. Glad your training is going good.

Looks like another two weeks has flown by with no training to report. At least I got out and up to beautiful lake Shasta last weekend. Work settling down ro the regular 10-12 hour days so I will get back to training a lil more consistently. figured I better post something before mah log disappeared!
I’ve been pokiing round these parts n trying to keep an eye on y’all…

Hai T!! Miss ya girl.

Lake Shasta sounds nice. See you soon mama!

hi Maschy! Lake Shasta was awesome. all the rain we got out here in CA this year has lakes full, as in water is all the way up to the trees at the shores full and they are releasing water because the snow melt has barely started.

went in today for some randomness. knew that i wanted to DL because even if i don’t have the perfect form yet, doing them makes me feel awesome and it’s the one thing that always makes me feel like i’ve accomplished something good.

WG lat pull-downs:
75# 2x10,
90 x6
105 x6, x8

superset of seated ham curls then leg extensions:
100 x 10 for both
115 x8 for both (115 a lil too heavy for the curls, easy for extensions…)
100 x 10 for both

DL: completely trying to check form. i really kinda promise that a video is coming soon-no shit flinging pleaze… :-\

115 x10, 10, 8
trainer walked by (the one who says i’m not humping the bar enough and that i’m leaned forward too much. told me to check the ego and drop the weight if my hips are the limiting factor as i suspect they are. blah blah…you’ve heard this before and it’s moot with out vid)
worked a bunch at 95 for form check and humping of said bar…

squats:
95 x10,10,8

standing BB curls:
40 x 10, 8,8
couple sets of 15 hypers
lying ham curls:
65 3 x8
leg “press-downs”
3 x 12 for each leg
spent a decent amount of time stretching. weights done in one hour.

looks like i’m running out of time for a bike ride since i still need to mow front lawn and BBQ some wild sockeye salmon i picked up at costco…YUM!!

nice workout.

Pretty good, considering it was random!

wild salmon mmmm. Looks like a complete day  random but effective.

Deadlifts and salmon. How could a day like that be bad??

hi ya girls-nice to see you all! fresh wild sockeye on the BBQ was outstanding!

today: worked just over 11 hours which is fantastic so i had time for a 50 min ride this evening. our heat spell has mellowed out and it was super breezy n beautiful out.

the nice DOMS from yesterday tells me the training was effective. i’m planning on some random chest/shoulders/tris tomorrow evening. i’d love to have some energy to do those stair runs with 25’s in hands…

Yum! BBQ salmon does sound delish!!

That’s a fabulous workout, and the DOMs must be very inspiring, no?

Love that you’re biking btw, its perfect weather to get on the bike.

Tal - glad you are able to sneak in some workouts here and there! I know what you mean about being super crazy busy with work… I have been lucky to sneak in 2 workouts a week for a couple of months now… YIKES! BUT… if I want to sleep, then I have to make those sacrifices!

Now post that DL video soon! I don’t wanna risk popping back in here while the shit-flinging is going on!

Totally jealous of the salmon. Scottish salmon is generally farmed and is nowhere near the quality of wild caught salmon. We can get Alaskan salmon but it costs an arm and a leg!

Jealous of the deadlifts too. Wish I could do them again but back says no.

maschy-yes, the DOMs are great. they painfully remind me that i’ve been away from the weights for too long but also indicate that i’ve done some good. biking helps work through them too.

Molly-i hear ya on sneaking in a wrkout or 2 in a week. that’s been me for well over a month now. still working on the DL form, thanks for stopping by.

Cal-you and i are both plagued with annoying little (or not so little) injuries that seem to either come and go and slow down the momentum of training. such as life. at this point i have to accept slow and steady wins the race.

did the random DL, legs and back workout on the 4th. won’t bother with all the details.
DL: 10, 10 @ 95, 8, 8 @ 115, 6, 6 @135 yay for working on form
BO DB rows, 45’s
BB curls
3 super-sets of leg extensions/seated leg curls 10 for each @100
couple other things

monday: 3 hours of working in yard. digging, raking, weeding.

tuesday: will post later. out of time…

Keep on keepin’ on. Sneak in those trainings!

hi ya kimba-thanks!

so i won’t bother posting last week’s stuff, i’ll just say that i got in 3 full weight training sessions and a bike ride for the week. which is huge since i was so sporadic for almost 6 weeks due to work.

work is settling down a tad so i’ve seemed to found my mojo again. i still won’t start a set program, just hit it hard with some circuit stuff here and there, heavy when i can (heavy, of course, is relative) and keep getting bike rides in.

hit chest/tris and shoulders yesterday-cliff notes, lots of DB presses, flat, flies and decline press/fly. need to work back up to the 40’s. did 25’s, 30’s and 35’s. (flies were with 22.5’s) played around with 3-4 sets of varied 8-12 range.
MP-also need to work back up on this. could barely do sets of 5 @ 55
bunch of tricep stuff and shoulders as well.

today, skipped any squat action since i rolled my ankle like an idiot walking out to get the trash toter last night. no biggie, but it’s sore so i didn’t want to push that.

did a pewp load of light weight DL…i do very short rest periods of no more than an min and half…my version of circuit training and since it’s light-i need to.
95 x10
115 x10 <<<<making a break through with the form issue. really focused on pulling shoulders back from the start and squeezing them hard as i pulled back. i need to go study some vids
135 x6,8,8
95 x10, 10

decided to do rack DLs just so my ego could get a slight boost from heavier weights:
135 x5
155 x5
175 x5
195 x1<<<<<ehhhh-getting fatigued
175 x5, 5

WG lat pull downs:
75 x12
90 x10,10

cable curls, did drop sets for the burn:
50 x12/40 x10 30 sec rest then 40 x 12/30 x12

BO DB rows: 40’s
2 x 10 each arm

rear delt action with silly machine:
70 x 10

seated leg curls
85 3 x12

tonight, 50 min bike ride-hit one knarly hill, good pace for the rest. and i’m back to tracking my food since i’ve been off the wagon so long. needless to say, i’ve got 5 or so extra lbs of fluff i need to torch off in a hurry. i suspect tomorrow i will be painfully aware of the volume of work i did tonight. yay for DOMs!

Wow that’s some crazy strength. Impressive. I don’t doubt that you’d feel it tomorrow

ditto on Nikki’s post!

what’s the big event for the 5lbs T?
