Drinker with a Gym Problem

Omg! I have a team of gym friends that I check with on the reg to see if I’m looking too thick. Of course, they’re all bros so you can never look “too thick”.

I’ve also never done SDLs, but I imagine the stance is similar to RDLs, no?

I like the way you finish strong on your sets btw! Good work mama.

I regularly do SLDL’s, …my feet are usually just shy of shoulder width…if you are feeling it in your upper back, I’d say the weight was too much??..think about hinging from the hips and trying to touch your bum to a wall…you should feel a good stretch just past the knees.

Keep up the MOTO!![/quote]

thanks MIM. upper back sore because i forgot that i was playing around doing rows with 25 kg weights at work that are used for balancing huge scales…ha ha. i didn’t think a couple sets of 5 rows here and there would effect me…guess i was wrong.

and i’d agree, the weight was probably too much for SLDL. i’ve got the move down with the pre-set BB at 90 lbs…just wanted to be a cool chick and do them with the legal bar and plates…lesson learned.

thanks Rachelle. i’m very motivated on the training. sticking to a ‘diet’ is the challenge for me. i can do low carb in my sleep. low fat (a target of 20 g a day) is a challenge for me. that’s why i love how the food stuff switches back and forth.

and by diet, i mean sticking to a prescribed # of low calories. eating clean is easy. but if i’m hungry, i’m pretty much gonna eat something. dunno if it’s considered lack of will power of the fact that life is too short and if my results are a tad slower from an extra serving of CLEAN food, then oh well.

and maschy, you aren’t even close to being thick, silly girl. delicious, but not what i think of when i say thick.<<<this is a compliment.

tonight was supposed to be HIIT. i’m freaking SORE all over. muscle rounds kicked my ass in a great way. soo, with some encouragement, i went for the bike ride i had been thinking about all day. the riding is so awesome for me to unwind and clear my mind of the work crap i’m dealing with.

managed a 50 min ride. a couple small hills and nice pace throughout. so glad i did it. :slight_smile:
i made some quinoa tonight. i loves that stuff.

OH! found an area called “open space,” a hiking area that goes up a pretty serious hill. i must investigate this and see if i can get some running. it’s not a grassy, rolling kinda hill for sprints. but i could give some running a try.

Low fat is hard to do!
Bike ride sounds nice…I need to take mine out for a spin.

I think I’ll take a vid of some of some sldl’s today just to see if I’m doing them right!

Talena - since you asked…

I went from the FBT every other day to a 3 day split, four days per week with the kicker being doing legs each time, splitting Squats, Deads and reverse lunges per.

that program was working out good with high reps then I started getting greedy and adding more weight to the lifts. my knees and lower back was getting increasingly sore, so I took a week off, assessed my program and my weaknesses, and am now on a true 3 day split - Chest/Tri’s - Back/Bi’s - Shldrs/Legs.

I’ll keep that up for about 8 weeks and let you know the outcome.

btw…thanks for asking!

hey MIM-i better go see if you posted up some video…low fat sucks…

greedy Edgy-glad to hear you listened to the aches and assessed your program. i take it you are still on a fat loss oriented goal? (sorry if’in i’m mistaken)

tonight-had to leave work (after just under 12 hours) to make it to the gym before they closed. didn’t get to do HIIT afterwards…actually was supposed to go back to work to do some testing but shit didn’t go right so i was fortunate enough to get the call NOT to come back.

antagonistic super-sets: 1 min rest between super-sets. unfortunately i had zero time to warm up aside from some arm circles…bear with me, this might be hard to type up and follow

1 x [Pec deck: 85 lbs x14 & WG lat pull-downs 70 x15]
next set had to insert DB flys since 4 boys took over pec deck: 20’s x15 & WG pull-downs same]
2 x [[Pec deck: 85 lbs x14 (11 on last set) & WG lat pull-downs 70 x15]

4 x [leg extensions 100 lbs x15 & seated leg curls 85 lbs x 15 & calf work]<<<missed set one because i didn’t read to do calves til 2nd round, used seated leg press, 105 x 20, too much strain on legs to get into position, remembered we have horizontal calf press, 130 x 20, 170 x 20 for super-set #3 and 4…

3 x [lateral raises 12.5’s x 15 and ab work]<< first set, started with hanging leg raises w roman chair, too hard on shoulders, went to dumb ab crunch machine w/ 80 lbs x 20 for all 3 rounds

1 x [HS preacher curls, 35 plate x10 & tricep bench dips 15]
2 x [HS preacher curls, 25 plate x15 & ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^]

lights went out when i was doing curls…but finished that last set and ran out. better stretch and foam roll now.

tomorrow-no prescribed training but if i can squeek out of work with a little time, i’ll jump rope or ride, because my prescribed cheat meal will be Cabernet and Carnivores at Pine Ridge winery…oh.dear.god. all the steak,chops,ribs, sausage<<eeh and cab i can handle…

Cabernet and Carnivores in the wine caves on saturday night was amazing. This is a lively event and not at all stuffy or snooty. Once we were seated, some dramatic music was played while the salads were brought out-smoked salmon on mixed greens in a radicchio cup on top of these 4foot long trays of wheat grass. wild mushrooms tucked here and there and some bread. the side dishes of roasted potatoes and chard w/ mixed mushrooms sat atop as well.

THEN, the bagpipes came…what an amazing sight and sound to be a part of. the chefs then wheeled out carts of american kobe beef, leg of lamb, the most amazing sausages ever, & whole pig. All of these were carved table side and you ate til you couldn’t eat anymore. the wine flowed and after wards there was an amazing cheese table of which i did not get enough. the truffles disappeared quickly so i only had one.

needless to say, i was down for the count sunday. no training, a lot of eating and napping. next post will have workouts…yah, i still do those…

‘Wine Caves’

Just sounds cool.

had to post one more…

and here is yesterday’s workout. back to fat loss circuit training, except these were jump sets. one exercise, one 40 sec of jump rope, next exercise, jump rope again. 40 min of this stuff. it’s no wonder the scale drops 4 lbs or more the day after, i must have sweat nearly all of that out. in addition to coming off the wine festivities and the 5 day carb up…

{DL 8 rounds of 8 reps
w/ DB flat press 8 rounds of 8 reps}

first 3 rounds of DL was 135. then last 5 rounds at 115. DB press with 30’s

{BB curls 40 5 rounds of 8
w/ standing calf raises, used HS v-suat thing with 180 in plates}

did a few rounds of the core work.

note on the DL-i got stopped after 3rd round by the manager/trainer with whom i have respect for and chat with every so often. he said i was pulling too much with my back, needed to drop the ass (like i was going to sit in a chair) and that i should be using almost solely legs for regular DL. i suppose if i had ever posted DL video, i might have been told something like this by you all. i think i keep combing an RDL and regular. i did mess with the form after those super sets, where i dropped the butt lower<<<here is where i feel the pull in my hips. so again, my stupid hips are limiting me. i now must go searching around and study videos…

more circuit training today and a bike ride since i got a new bike replacement for the broken one…yay!

'sup- Edgy! the wine caves are waaay cool. i highly recommend a visit if you are into wine.

note on the DL-my back is NOT rounded, great arch, but i’m apparently, by his account, using too much of it, rather than the legs. i must be an idiot because i thought you were supposed to be using back as well for regular DLs. i’m confused on this and will be harassing someone in the near future about this…like today. and you know who you are…

Tal, sounds like the way I deadlift. I have stiff hips so I tend not to use them as much as I should.
But, having said that, DL is a posterior chain exercise - that means back and arse should be working, not just legs.

Was this event through your work? looked snazzy! :slight_smile:

The DL is a tricky sob…sounds like your are pulling up more than pulling back…HINT take a video!! even if you don’t share here, at least you can see yourself!

That wine cave event looks and sounds as if it was fabulous!

It’s hard to comment without actually seeing how you DL, but it is supposed to involve your back, along with the rest of your posterior chain (glutes & hams). Your quads will be involved too, but they definitely aren’t supposed to be the dominant player. So if your gym manager is telling you to ‘squat’ that bar up from the floor, I don’t think that’s good advice. But you don’t want to stiff-leg it up either.

MIM-that was an event put on by one of the wineries i am a member of. “membership” means they send you shipments on a regular basis, usually every other month. (or in my case, drive over to pick up) membership gets you and your guests free tastings when you visit and any number of discounts on wine purchases. and depending on the winery, they have all kinds of fun events to attend.

yep-i’m acutely aware i need to post some DL video. i think you are right on pulling up rather than back. :slight_smile:

thanks, Rachelle. i’m hoping to put up some video soon. that dinner will go down as one of the most memorable evenings ever…:slight_smile:

today: more jump set circuit training, each exercise set followed by 40 secs of jump roping (that totals 30 rounds of 40 sec jump rope w/ the exception of 4 rounds on the dumb elliptical b/c of distance when i did leg extensions)

{DB standing shoulder press, 25’s: 7 rounds of 7
w/ DB lunges, 25’s 7 rounds of 7 (each leg)}

{OH cable tricep push-down 40 lb 2 rounds of 8
leg extension 110 lbs 2 rounds of 10
lying ham raise 75 lbs 2 rounds of 8}
+5 more rounds of tricep push-downs, facing cable 70lbs x8
w/ 5 rounds of straight-LDL 80 lb preset BB x8}

1 round of the core combo (hypers, ab, rotator stuff) some stretching and foam rolling.

gonna take the bike for a spin and i still have to swing to the store and come home to cook for a going away pot luck (at least it’s a taco bar and i’m making the turkey taco meat)
a few more chores and call it a night. and some tennis ball rolling hopefully…this is why i keep running out of time to post in other people’s logs…:frowning: i’m reading them, however… :slight_smile:

OMG T, that dinner looks absolutely incredible!! So lovely in the caves and that lechon looks oh so yummy. Pork is my favorite food. I love it in every way - cold cuts, roasted, chops, ribs (i’m having a bubba gump moment).

Girl, you know I’m going to say it, but a vid would be helpful re: the DL (as noted), but you know, no pressure :wink:

Let me ask you something tho, how do you remember everything in this program? Do you write it down before hand and time stuff with a stop watch? It looks like it has to be so precise! Feel free to call me “estoopid” btw - i make everything more complicated in my head.

Anyways, it sounds like things are really shaping up for you (no pun intended) - new program, biking, good foods with great company…LOVE IT!

roasted piggy=much happiness.

Those pictures just made me very, very hungry.

I’m glad for company in deadlift form hell.

hey T… it’s been too long. i’ve been naughty and mia.

i worked a couple wine events and totally thought of you the whole time. well what i can remember at least. hehe

“Cabernet and Carnivores” looks and sounds like the most fabulous evening. I wish I could attend an event of that nature every Friday night after a long week and squatz.

re: your deadlifts-I’m gonna parrot everyone else and request a vid!

maschy-i write the program in my book and record my stuff. i know this is common for many, if not most people. but i never used to do that til i got home from the gym. not possible with those workouts-too many details and such. lechon…i learned a new word…bueno! :wink:

nlmain and kimba- yes-it was much happiness! i will remember that evening for a long time to come.

DEJA!!! whaaaaaaaaaaat-up woman! glad to see you back. yes, you’ve been naughty. now get over here and let me give you a spanking!

'sup, owlie…thanks for stopping in. i sees your work and i’m impressed! i just can’t post everywhere as of late because of a lack of time. not much of an excuse but that’s what i’m giving. yes- a DL video is in the near future.

so, last night was no prescribed training. traveled to the hospital yesterday and tonight to visit my sis-n-law. not to get into details, but she’s battling cancer. hysterectomy didn’t go as planned yesterday so my training has taken a detour this week. it’s situations like these that remind me to be thankful i have the health just to get up everyday. let alone go kick ass in the gym or “eat right” for the day. hope to finish the last 2 workouts tomorrow and sat but will start up this week’s training as a do-over next week.
