Drinker with a Gym Problem

Happy benching!

Will this be a first as well?

:slight_smile: looking forward to real benching for a first time as well. friday nights at my gym are usually kinda quiet, so i shouldn’t have to fight for a bench.

things did not go so well tonight. today’s workout should have been bi/tri/shoulders, but since i had missed a day (2nd chest/back routine of the week), i decided to throw in a pathetic attempt to get some benching in.

wasn’t feeling all that pumped headed in and it only got worse…

hanging clean and press OH 8 x60, 7 x60, 6 x60, 5 x 60 (using the bb i’ve tolled yall about a hundred times)

moved to the bench…try to keep the ridicule to a minimum, i know i was an idiot for not starting light and moving up…

bar x 12…
then attempted 95 and barely got one up. dude thought i was gonna drop it and said he was scared for me. (i had been doing 70 of the aforementioned BB before, which required me to hoist it directly off my body and that was no prob. didn’t think 20 more would be a stretch…fuckin idiot i am…)

1 x 85…meh…scared dude again…

3 sets 12 x65 was a breeze

standing lateral raises 15, 12, 12 @ 12.5 lbs

arnold press, 8 x25 lbs, 7* x25, 10* x22.5 *barely finished

superset of:
skull crushers: (no shit, tris feelin it by now from f’d up bench?) barely did proper 10 x40 bb; 8 then said screw it on doing 3 full supersets…
standing BB curls: 15 x 40lb, 12 x40

tried to make up for messed up skulls with some tricep work…so disgusted with tonight that i don’t want to type anymore…

did some t-bar cable pushdowns: 12, 10, 10 @ 60lbs
rope: 12, 10, 10 @ 40 lbs

cable bicep curls…2 sets x 10 x50lbs
single arm tri pushdown 2 sets x 10 x20lbs
15 bench dips and a measly 5 bench pushups and called it quits…

20lbs can make a pretty big difference on bench but don’t worry about it. I remember when I was scared to do negatives with 95 and wouldn’t let my spotter take his hands out from under it. You’ll get it soon enough!

on a positive note, the dude i scared asked if i was bodybuilder, or athlete, or what was i training for. he knew something was up when i went to the bench cause he said he’s seen me doing practically everything EXCEPT bench. at least he was there to save me from potentially crushing myself…baaaaaahhh

the experience reminded me to be freakin careful and pushed me for another goal to strive for…proper benching!

Thanks for letting me know about this forum…seems much better. Great job on your squats and for having the guts to try benching alone! I was on my way to the squat rack last night thanks to your inspiration, however some jerk with a pony tail (I am pretty sure you know who I speak of) decided to use it to do curls from 7 until we had to leave. Gotta love 'em! Oh well, next week.

hey girlie-good to see ya! yeah- i was gonna share the excitin’ news about that squattin’ with ya but you had your game face on again so i left you alone…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: crappy benching but now maybe i’ll make you spot me!

hmmm-trying to think who was there hogging that rack-next time you and i will go give him the death stare!!

Don’t worry about it. I’ve gotten pinned under the bar too many times to count. It just means you’re working hard enough to push your limits.

i’ll vouch for her…as you can see-she gots not posts on FA so you can’t berate her (just yet) we just made acquaintance recently at mah gym. her pic might be deceiving but she don’t fuck around in the gym-she gets down.

today…post bday celebrating and i’m needing more sleep. yesterday was my regular sat work shift of about 13 hours. tried to get out on time at 6:30. perhaps the long lunch of .5 lb cheeseburger, onion rings w/ ranch AND fries was part of the late factor. must not forget the capt’n and coke i had with that. oh, and they brought me a boston cream cake…only had licks of the knife i was so full. sleepy after that, returned to work to try and get out of food coma.

came home to a ‘surprise’ party of my good buddy from work w/ his wife and kids. the misses and the friends had planned this and i was completely surprised. never had a surprise gathering before, i was quite stoked. they are fabulous at making deep fried fish tacos…brought all the fixins and cooked & cleaned for me.

wine of the evening: '05 St. Supery Dollarhide Ranch cab, '05 Pine Ridge Stagg’s Leap District cab and finished with '05 St. Supery Elu.

…must rest more so i can do my kettlebell/metabolic circuit. tomorrow is napa trip to Shafer and others and eating w those friends again. shit i hope the sis n’ law isn’t coming today…that would be 3 days of drinking…need more water…must rehydrate…

wow-thanks. glad you stopped in, feel free anytime! as you can see, there is more than just weight lifting talk here…i’m glad i stopped you that day-otherwise i would have just kept envying you back/shoulders/arms and not gotten the opportunity to find a lifting partner.

i know you will be busy with school starting, but are you thinking of posting a journal? i find it keeps me accountable and actually pushes me harder in the gym.
