Haven’t posted on the forums in a while, but I have been lurking about.
Anyway, I have been given a great opportunity at work to travel overseas for a job. Unfortunately I won’t be able to take my home gym and it is highly unlikely I will have access to any sort of weight training equipment during my posting. Sucks…but the experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am too old to believe I am going to be the next Ahnuld
What to do as far as training goes? Anybody else ever run into this predicament?
Bands are the way to go. Go to http://www.elitefts.com/. You can buy the bands there (look under accessories) and there is a comprehensive guide to what exercises you can do with them (go to the Q&A section, scroll down on the LH side to exercise index, band exercises are at the top).
Don’t ignore bodyweight execises & plyometrics. Incline pushups off the wall. Unilateral bodyweight squats / dl’s.
Bored of that? try the planche & other gymnastic static hold variations (dragondoor.com)
Do db snathes or overhead press/ squat with your (full) suitcase.
If you’ve got family size laundry detergent around, use it for delt exercises.
Make a sandbag to throw around.
Failing that, go interval running.
The world of exercise is the mollusc of your choice, just think a little left of center …
I like fish’s body weight workouts on the road I am up to it. They can be brutal if you don’t have the conditioning, and they are more BW strength / endurance based than for mass.
Also, what about sandbags, buying a dumbell or two while you’re there for snatches, swings, etc. If you have access to concrete (I don’t know what you’ll be doing for living…) you can come up with all kinds of things.
