Dragon Door Junkies and Hoffmaker's Warrior Workout

Heya T-freques. Anyone ever listen to “I hate everything about you” over and over? Just me, eh? ANYways. I wanted to unite all The Dragon Door junkies because I’m sure that I cannot be the only one around here. Pavel rules, whoo ha, and so forth. Have any of you peeps tried the “warrior Workout” series? Impressions? Depressions? Thanks. Lean body sucks, it mixes like water. I’mana go finish my f’ing paper so I can go to grad school for Sports/Health Psychology.

Well, Hoffmaker’s diet sucked, so I’m a little skeptical about his workout. Besides, I’m getting tired of all this non-bodybuilding stuff, you know, Pavel talking about not wanting to be big etc. I was into it for a while, but I’m ready to do it Arnold-style again. I’ll take a thing or two from Pavel and Coach Davies, but I’m ready to get big and ugly and forget all this functional stuff. I don’t play sports anyway! I admit it- I want big arms, big legs, a full chest and a small waist. So I don’t run fast or can’t balance a heavy kettlebell too well. Personally, I don’t care! That’s just me of course. To each his own. No slam against anyone and their goals.

Yeah, I’m just starting his stuff this week for some future goals. I like his writing and his quotes (gotta love a guy that can quote Bruce Lee, Louie Simmons, and Phil Hartman). I like to think that his stuff incorporates well with bodybuilding. I like the older dudes like Arnold and Dave Draper. They switched gears from just cutting and muscle spinning to powerlifting-type programs through out the year. What programs are people currently following of Pavel’s? I’m starting PTTP this week and will be ordering K-bells soon. But for those that live in an apartment, what do you use so you don’t disturb your neighbors while deadlifting or one-arm snatching?

Tek, man, I am in agreement with you, but I’ve found, like everything else in life, that there can be a balance, or “settlement” in the case of Get Huge v. Be Strong. Pavel has techniques designed for both in his books “The Kettlebell Challenge” and “Power to the People”. In fact, I’m just fucking sick enough to try his “Russian Hollywood Unit” workout which consists of nothing but Deadlifts and bent presses. I’ll do it and report on it, I swear. I mean, c’mon, if you’re 130 and semi-ripped, you won’t fill out the tank top and you don’t get the 500 lb. gorilla feeling a day after you bench. If you’re 185 and huge, but can’t look pumped unless you’ve lifted in the last hour, you suck, and you look like an ass when you can’t carry something without putting it down and taking a breather. I think the big factor here is DENSITY. In terms of our bodies, it’s a good thing. Oh, and I deadlift in an apartment, but I haven’t encountered a problem. Lata.

Bronx, I live in an apartment and tend to do my kettlebell, sled dragging and jump rope workouts outside. I will do my kettlebell workouts inside every once in a while. You can use them anywhere. And they don’t cause any noise or problems unless you drop them on the floor or toss them too high into the air and hit your ceiling. But I haven’t had any problems. And the only noise I tend to make is from heavy breathing!

TEK, I know you want to be big and the functional strength training isn’t your thing, but depending on how you use Pavel and Coach Davies’ methods, you could gain terrific size. Obviously, Pavel isn’t interested in that, but he does have advice for those wanting to get huge while using his methods! I think any program can add size, it just depends on how you use it and what you eat!

I may be more interested in functional strength training at this time in my life, but I still want to look good. I’ve found that the workouts that I’ve been following have helped me to stay lean and gain some mass. Once I get my MAG-10, you can be sure that I’ll switch things up so that I can make the most out of it!

I have not tried the warrior workout series because it looks pretty lame. I have Ori’s “Warrior Diet” book and it is excellent. I have been following the warrior diet for two years and love the freedom. However, if I give mag-10 a test run, I will switch back to eating several times a day to maximize the benefits. The Warrior workout is listed in the back of Ori’s book and looks really basic. Good stuff for a beginner. However, nothing impressive for someone that has been around the block. Save your money for Pavel’s stuff and for bodyweight stuff, go with Matt Furey.

I just ordered my kettlebell today, and I can’t wait till it comes. I’ve been lifting weights for the past 4 years, and I’ve gotten really sick and tired of it. Even though I’ve gained plenty of size, the fact that I can’t do more than 4 pullups is pretty sad. That’s why I want to switch to Pavel’s routines. I plan to do his Kettlebell workouts, and later incorporate PTTP in them. Then when I feel my muscles are strong and hard as a rock, I’ll be even stronger when I get back to bodybuilding. Who knows. Maybe I’ll be so proud of the way I look I’ll post some pics of myself on the web.

The WARRIOR workout series is ridiculous. He is hard to understand and he uses 115 pounds on inclines and has to burst a hemorrhoid to get it moving. I laughed out loud as is thought about the money wasted on the thing. Don’t even waste $3.50 at BLOCKBUSTER.

Right on TEK! I’m sick of hearing how lifting for muscles is somehow not as noble a pursuit as lifting for strength. It doesn’t happen on this forum, as everyone respects others goals, but Pavel’s forum sure does have a lot of bodybuilding bashing. If you want to lift for strength then great, but it is really lame when you have to make yourself feel better about your endeavor by bashing on someone else.

I agree that bodybuilders bashing people who train for strength and vice versa is unnecessary.
I personally don’t see the two as being mutually exclusive.
A bodybuilder can only get so big at a certain strength level. So more strength will equate to more muscle.
A powerlifter can only lift so much with a certain amount of muscle on his frame. If the powerlifter moves up a weight class then his lifts will also go up. So size can equate to strength.
Obviously the biggest guys aren’t always the strongest, but most (not all) 300 lb. bodybuilders can bench more than a 175 lb. powerlifter.
No pursuit is more noble than another. If you’ve got no real reason to be big or strong then the decision is entirely up to the individual. We lift by choice. The choice of how we lift is entirely up to the individual. There’s no need for a divide between bodybuilders and strength athletes. We can all learn something from one another.

Where can you see a copy of the Warrior diet book?

Anyone?

thanks–

Why must one only have one or the other and who is someone to say that you are wrong. Doesn’t Ian King write up hypertrophy -neural programs? Also I say do what makes you feel happy. But remember a bigger muscle usually is a stronger muscle. Also, if you are pushing more weight than before , provided form is the same you will probably experince some growth(there are sme CNS exceptions). I admit I feel like a pussy in my quest to get big sometimes, That is what I want to do though…I want to be very big and lean… I also want to get mad strong too though…ad be in good shape…so I periodize. Am I pussy for not doing renegade training. Hell No!. Why can’t i incorporate some kettlebell work along with my regualr workouts? Bodybuilder don’t just do kickbacks and such. I revolve my workouts around big heavy core lifts. If you don’t think deads, dips chins, rows and oh presses will get you strong…then you are seriously wrong…sorry for the rant…jut hadda let it out…MIKE
