Just got my latest issue of Men’s Journal.
It contains an extensive article about doping in cycling. Damn i had no idea it was that extensive.
It sites evidence, including a “training cycle” from a doper who was caught.
EPO, HMG-Lepori a pregnancy hormone, Insulin Growth Factor 1, HGH.
All of which used in conjunction w/ a process called “changing the oil” Where an athlete has "old"blood extracted and it’s exchanged w/ previously stored blood.
If they are doing that much in Cycling, what the heck are they doing in sports where Real money can be made?
I said it before i’ll say it again. Bonds may be a cheater… but he’s not alone.

You act as if cycling is not one of Europes biggest sports? The Tour de France is like the super bowl for the French. Everyone, including France, is willing to do whatever it takes to win the Tour de France, among other major cycling events, so of course there is a lot of doping going on. And yes, steroids are very common in sports.

If this is happening in the TDF which is the Super Bowl for the French just image what happens in the real Super Bowl.

“Steroids are like porn: Both have changed my perspective forever. Every
time I see an attractive 20-year-old, I assume she wants to rip off her
shirt and jump me in an abandoned warehouse. Every time I see the winner
of a sporting event, I assume he’s taking steroids. Both have changed
the way I look at a bicycle.”

Only a handful of cyclists make a million+ a year. Fact is for most little guys it doesnt pay of to dope. You cant say everyones doing it. Youve got to have respect for them, a lot make less than 100k a year, in a sport where the yearly probability of landing in hospital is 1 to 4.
for the life of me i can’t understand why our society has a problem with doping in sports. jeez-s our whole country lives on drugs so why not athletes ? if anybody should get to take drugs it’s those guys.

That’s a damn good point how the whole country lives on drugs, but there are a few reasons I think they should still test athletes.
Some people don’t want to mess around with the dangers of doping. Not everyone has access to the best drugs around. I think sports would still be better off still testing.

oh i agree. i don’t think think it should be a free for all and if leagues think it’s in their best interests to control, or not control, the use of substances, then so be it. but outside agencies who don’t have a real interest in sports , rather a political agenda to serve, should not be given this power. (congress, wada etc). leagues players etc should decide these things for themselves.

I never said anything about salary. I never said everyone is doping. And I do have a lot of respect for cyclists, doping or not, I think they are amazing athletes. I was simply trying to get my point across as to the motivation for why there would be so much doping happening in cycling. And you can’t act like there isn’t a lot of doping happening, how many riders got kicked out of the TDF this year alone?

this year’s tour is a perfect example of govenment dictating who gets to participate and who doesn’t. all of those riders were x’d from the tour under SUSPICION. many, at least half, have since been cleared but that doesn’t make the headlines, they were suspended without pay, and that’s fucking bullshit.
this fear mongering about the dangers of drugs and demonizing athletes to protect the kids is some misguided f’d up shit man. the f’d up part is how parents would rather see kids trade their freedoms for “absolute safety” from drugs that the rest of the population take freely.
You don’t dope, you can’t compete in cycling. I’m sure many other sports, too. Most baseball players are into steroids (the Clear, ect) not to bulk up but for recovery. For every scientist designing a test, there’s two building a new steroid. 162 games and preseason kills the body.
They get caught when they get sold a batch of bad stuff that shows up on the test.
Personally i dont have a problem w/ doping. Competitive people are always going to seek every advantage they can and stay within the rules.
Baseball was notorius for guys stretching the rules in every way possible. What i hate today is how players today are cheaters, but guy from yesterday are as pure as the driven snow…
Do you think that Mantle would have taken something to hepl his knees heal so he could play better or longer? Mike Schmidt admitted that he would have done anything to stay in baseball.
The furor today is driven by the biggest group of liars out there… Sports Writers. These guys lie and cheat for a living. They hate most of the current players and revere their childhood heroes. So they create as much dirt as they can, not that some guys dont have enough dirt on their own.
Didja ever wonder why you dont hear any stories about hockey players? Maybe its because those guys are good family men who go home after every game, have a glass of milk and read their bible befor going to bed…

Sports writers are in it to dig dirt and ruin reputations because that is what sells.
