Don't Look Back

This morning’s workout:

15 min warm up precor

Squats:
3 sets 65 lbs 8 reps
4 sets 75 lbs 8 reps
1 set 65 lbs 10 reps

Bench:
3 sets 65 lbs 8 reps
1 set 85 lbs 8 reps
1 set 85 lbs 6 reps

Leg extension:
1 set 70 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 75 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 80 lbs 8 reps

Ham curl:
2 sets 50 lbs 8 reps
3 sets 55 lbs 8 reps

Calf raises bodyweight:
3 sets 20 reps

Notes: 30 min of cardio after. Boy, was I pissed off with my bench. In between sets, I had to text my daughter a few times cause she was walking to the bus stop and it threw off my timing. I know everyone has an off day but it’s really frustrating. I did remember that the mirror was my enemy when it comes to squats and did most of the sets without peeking.

Why is the mirror the enemy?

I read in the feedback from meat thread that you are supposed to look up and not at yourself while doing squats. This is really hard for me cause I always used to even put a bench behind me so I could see where to go down to.

At the beginning of the week, I planned on lifting yesterday but I did 45 min of cardio instead. I figured since I lifted Fri morning and I wouldn’t have anything to do today, why not have a day in between? My right hip was alittle sore on Friday so I didn’t think it would be a good idea to do leg work again today. Hopefully my bench will be better today.

Today’s episode:

Bench:
2 sets 65 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 85 lbs 8 reps

DB press: (DB’s instead of bar)
2 sets 50 lbs total 8 reps
2 sets 60 lbs total 8 reps

Squat:
2 sets 45 lbs 10 reps
3 sets 65 lbs 8 reps except for last one 10 reps

Pulley row:
2 sets 40 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 55 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 70 lbs 8 reps

Lat pulldown:
2 sets 70 lbs 8 sets
2 sets 75 lbs 8 sets

Notes: I figured I would mix it up today. Tomorrow is massage day so I figured whatever I break today, she can fix tomorrow. The squats were just practicing form and I had to do them again after Friday’s workout and the miserable fail of squats then bench. I haven’t used DB’s in awhile because I’m in love with the bench so that was form pratice too. I did 30 min of cardio after.

So 20 mins ago I was trying to figure out what to have as a snack cause it is getting close to supper and I haven’t been food shopping in awhile so my snack was a few spoons of Teddy PB out of the jar. I’m such a goon.

I feel like a loser because I haven’t picked a program to follow but I can’t see getting into one when I still need to reintroduce myself to deadlifting. I might have to see if I can hunt down my old trainer to see if she can help me out.

I do db presses to reduce the angle on my shoulder, so I am with you on that one.

when you say pulley, is that the same as the cable machine?

This is what I am talking about. If the pic posts!!

So I didn’t make it to the gym today for cardio but I’m waking up with the birds tomorrow for squat day. I had to wait in line to sign my kid up for a summer program. I bought The New Rules of Lifting today to look over. It was the most hardcore book I could find, nestled in between the yoga books. I guess if I want more books, I will have to order them online.

I seem to be the slow one lately, but what is this meat thread you all speak of?

Also, do you ever wash just your bangs? I feel like I could get away with washing my hair much less if my bangs didn’t get oily.

Meat gives a lot of great advise.

Although I agree with Meat on the mirror, you also have to consider what works for you. If you squat better with a mirror then maybe use it and slowly wean your way off it. Also, using something for depth is a great idea. I frequently wrap a band across my power rack and when I touch I’ve hit depth. Ouro has used this method as well. Other people will but “aerobic steps” or a low box behind them. Whatever works.

Thanks, I would have never found that.

Ah, because you are nowhere near over 35!!

And no, I can’t just wash my bangs. Have you ever gone on sephora or even amazon and checked out dry shampoo? I’ve been meaning to get some.

Thanks for the advice. I’m a hard person to wean off something so that’s why I am trying to do it now. And when I don’t look it makes me feel where I have to go.

This morning’s workout:

13 min of precor

Squat:
1 set 45 lbs 10 reps
3 sets 65 lbs 8 reps
3 sets 75 lbs 8 reps
1 set 65 lbs 10 reps

Military press:
2 sets 45 lbs 8 reps

Pulley row:
2 sets 55 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 70 lbs 8 reps

Ham curl:
2 sets 55 lbs 8 reps
3 sets 60 lbs 6 reps except for last one 8 reps

Leg extension:
1 set 70 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 75 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 80 lbs 8 reps

Calf raises:
4 sets 20 reps

Notes: 20 min of precor after. Military press felt funky in the right shoulder area so I only did 2 sets. Squats were good and I took Rugger’s advice and didn’t freak out about glacing at the mirror. The only thing I don’t like about getting up at 5 am to workout is I’m waking up more during the night wondering if it’s time to get up yet. Yuck.

Yeah, I actually went through all the dry shampoos I could get my hands on, I found them all to suck. My hair is black, and putting a white powder on it makes it grey. So then it’s greasy, grey and smells like sweaty flowers.

Did I kill your log? Do I win?

HAHA! You are just jealous (or not) that I am the biggest thread killer of all time!! I did get a laugh out of you smelling like sweaty flowers.

I am planning on going to the gym tonight for some cardio because Thurs and Fridays are suck days for lifting unless I get the morning off. This weekend will be big lifting days. I don’t like doing them back to back but that’s life.

Before I post my workout, I have to say that this was the best workout I’ve ever had. When I was getting started with my bench, This guy approached me and said “Looks like you are really dropping some weight”. I thanked him and got back to work but then he came back to ask if I needed a spotter. Wow, did it make a difference. I knew I was overcautious because I am wicked antisocial at the gym and I don’t like to get caught up in talking to people but I have to suck it up. He even asked if I ever thought of competing in powerlifting. He gave me a few tips and told me about a powerlifting gym. It’s on the rough side of town (for around here) but I still might check it out.

Today’s workout:

15 min warm up on precor

Bench:
2 sets 65 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 85 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 95 lbs 6 reps
1 set 100 lbs 3 reps
1 set 105 lbs 3 reps
1 set 110 lbs 3 reps
1 set 110 lbs 5 reps!!! Woot!

Shoulder press:
2 sets 20 lbs each 8 reps
3 sets 22.5 lbs ea 6 reps

Lat pulldown:
1 set 70 lbs 8 reps
1 set 75 lbs 8 reps
3 set 80 lbs 6 reps

Bicep curl on cable:
1 set 40 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 50 lbs 8 reps
2 sets 60 lbs 6 reps

Notes: 30 min of precor after. I couldn’t believe that I want up on everything except for the lat pulldown. I thought I would be toast after!! I was on such a high the entire time but I’m starting to feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. I guess those few days of rest really paid off. Even on the last set of bench, I still had the power to lift off by myself and needed a bit of help to get the last one up.

Hi Tootles! I just read through your log. What is a precor?
