Doms in Upper Neck ?

Hey I never noticed this before, but my neck(posterior) is actually very sore today(not my upper traps, but entire back of the neck, all the way to the skull). This is a day after a short workout consisted of 5 sets of romanian DLs and 5 sets DB bent over rows(bilateral, shoulders flared, 90 degree torso bend). I normally keep my head looking forward during those lifts even tho its a lil uncomfortable. Is this normal that back of neck gets stressed out ? should I instead look into the ground during the bend ?

Apparently you should keep your TONGUE in a neutral position first. just swallow and where-ever you tongue lands thats the neutral spot.
YOur neck tends to move when you move your tongue.
As where to face, just go where is natural… for deadlifts look straight ahead, just pick a spot on the wall and look at it. If anything also get someone to watch your back to make sure your not bending it. As for all the raises thats probably were the soreness is from. Try different positions i suppose how far forward do you go for raises ???

my back is always arched hard(posterior tilt helps, lol), im even afraid of over-arching it lol. I raise my DBs as far as I can, squeezing my shoulderblades. but ya during that shoulderblade-squeezing moment my neck feels a lil unnatural. However, this is not about “feeling uncomfortable” or DOMS, it feels like a perfectly healthy soreness. But since neck is “sensitive area” or what not, im wondering healthy in a long-term.

PS. Tongue tip is great.

Tongue in the nuetral position with seat belt fastened LOL!

Seriously though, looking straight ahead or up will cause the splenius muscles (and other supporting back neck muscles) to flare up.

The actual natural way of keeping your back and neck (spine) safe is to look directly down towards the ground.

As you pull the weight up keep the chin tucked and keep the head neck and torso locked in a “neutral” position.

Of course if you are doing crazy heavy weight and need the extra drive in sacrifice of some spine compression…go ahead and look up.
