The recommendations don’t say it’s healthy to drink in these amounts, it just puts limits on and defines what “moderate drinking” is. Newer research and information tells us that no alcohol is the healthiest amount to consume. Save it for special occasions and when you do drink, do so in sane, not “let’s get wasted” amounts.
Possibly… but there was a time when health experts were telling us that a glass of wine every day was good for us. New research tells us that this is false.
Well, not technically - I think today’s research would tell us that protein is the most important. Fats are essential - so yes, in moderation we do need the right types of them. Carbs aren’t essential because protein and fats can be converted to fill the hole if they aren’t present. Now, is life generally better with some good carbs - hell yes, but are they equally important - nope.
Uh, yeah, NO. Maybe she was trying to justify her habits?? I mean, all foods fit, and in small amounts and if it helps keep you sane and eat well the rest of the day, okay - maybe, but as a blanket recommendation and changing My Plate - absolutely not.
I think whoever this dietitian is, she needs to update her materials with today’s news and recs - not the stuff from 10 years ago. I’m sorry you had to endure that lecture and if your professor would be open to a virtual guest speaker - I am there! lol
You know that’s a fair point. This might be victim of what the recommendations actually are versus how people report it
Lame (jk)
That’s fair. That question was made when after how it was reported to me being “2/1 is the healthy amount”
I agree! But I do think when reporting from a nutritional standpoint, the actual facts (like you stated before) needed to be stated and not just “all are equally important” especially to a college population
Yep it was strange and I checked out at that point. She also added a “fats” section and a water bottle (which makes the most sense)
I’ll let him know! He has 100% drank our colleges koolaid though so any outside source would probably be shot down
I just went through this unit with “my” teens in class. I stress with them that when they are of legal age no alcohol is the best approach. I get some dubious looks. I also know some of the adults in their lives abuse alcohol. But they are aware of the red wine “benefits” which was bad science from what I understood.
Made the call this morning. Putting down the old dog at 11:30 on Monday. He’s fought super hard but things are getting worse and we don’t want him to suffer. He woke me up at 5am panting and crying. I could tell he wasn’t trying to get my attention, he was just laying on the rug and couldn’t get comfortable.
Going through this myself right now. Our old boy just turned 17 today. He’s been battling some kind of colorectal cancer since last year. We’re saying goodbye on Friday. We wanted him to have that last birthday but he’s probably been ready to go for awhile. His quality/dignity of life has gone way downhill for awhile now. Sucks, but its part of life.
@BrandonCrawford It never gets easy. In a way, I’m happy he’s displaying mobility issues (bone cancer in his leg) because it tells me it’s time @QuadQueen Thank you! We are luckily having a lot of family in for a Mardi gras ball so everyone will get to say goodbye!
That’s a hard thing to go through. I did it 4 times and it doesn’t get easier. I hope you take solace in the happy memories of him and the happy life he had with you.
late to see this, but my condolences man. Ive had to do it three times now, and it never gets easier. A good vet makes the process very relaxing and painless for the pup, but its hard to lose a friend like that. Even when its the right call, it still hurts. Hope your doing alright with it

@atlas13 Thanks. I’m doing pretty good. It’s surreal he’s not in the yard yelling at me when I’m playing with my other dog but it’s all good
Where have I been? So friday I was playing with my dog and slipped. I pulled something (hip flexor probably) and holy shit it was been painful. Gave myself the weekend and monday to rest. Kept busy doing stuff around the house but it’s 10x better now
Also I can’t do Southern Heritage Games now. I’m planning on getting another dog soon so I don’t want to leave for 5 days like that soon after. I did find a partner comp me and my girlfriend are going to do. It’s in May in Delaware
@T3hPwnisher I haven’t done touch and go deadlifts in a long time. I forgot how hard they are
Yup! People that say they’re easier on doing them right, haha.
I haven’t posted because, honestly, I know nothing anyone could say would help me in this situation, but you do have my deepest condolences with the passing of your pup. We don’t deserve dogs, and we’re blessed for any time they share with us.
No that’s honestly how I feel but I do appreciate the sentiment. Same thing when people die, nothing can really be said that will actually help (at least to me)
