SHG prep:

Strict Log: reps in a minute: 155x8

Notes:

  • moving back work to tomorrow. My biceps and upper back are shot
  • Worn down from long day of class so I just did a minimum here
  • Getting use to pressing while bent back. My old PR while peaking log was 175x1 so not touching log in a while and getting 155x8 is very good I’d say
  • Video coming
  • Old dog is back to walking. I’m not going to act like it is not hard on me. It’s very hard on me. The vet even said ā€œit’ll be time when he just stops doing stuffā€ so when a bad day hits it’s more of an ā€œoh shit is this itā€ moment

Zercher squat ladder: 135x10, 155x8, 175x6, 205x4, 255x2, 275x2 (PR), 255x4, 205x6, 175x8, 155x10
SLDL: 225x6, add block for deficit, 245x6, 225x6

Notes:

  • Will do some core and RH later along with some cardio
  • The prof is funny. He was giving me shit for using knee sleeves

Ended up not doing anymore lifting today but I did think about how I’m training events:

Mast carry- yoke carry
Car deadlift: dual landline
Cross carry: zercher carry
Sandbag power stairs: using comp weight load 4 times on one bag over yoke, move to next load 4, move to next
Anvil lifting: plate from floor to overhead
Log carry: run with that caber I have
Block press: suitcase with sandbag in it

Obviously this is at my main gym because I’ll have access to more implements at other gym. Just laying it out more clearly for Saturday

Sandbag press: 150x3 200x I spent 30 fucking minutes trying to get this. Can’t seem to get hands under the bag enough to be able to push press it

Notes:

  • calling it for today because of how much event shit I have to do tomorrow and that took it out of me
  • I’m an idiot lmao
  • The 150 moves fine but the jump to 200 is just too much. It’s a technique and strength issue

Events day:

Yoke: work up to 600x35ft (PR! Last time I did yoke I hit 550 for 50ft with a lot of drops in August and I was training a lot of yoke so 5 months ago)
Sandbag load: 175x4, 3 rounds
Anvil lifting: KB (2 min) 35lbx33 reps, 50lbx30reps

Notes:

  • holy shit on yoke. I’m happy with that. No caffeine in my system and 1 protein shake
  • Also I did notice with 500lbs I can get away with sloppy steps. Not with 600lbs

I’m sitting here in my college level health class and had a realization. Classes like this giving out shitty information that can be cleared up with a quick google search are a problem. For example, we are talking about the sleep cycle and had everything lumped into ā€œdeep sleepā€. He then mentioned atonia WHICH IS DISTINCTIVELY A PART OF REM. The reason this is weird is because he’ll mention basic anatomy but won’t break down sleep cycles deeply (like non-rem, rem, etc.)

Last week we had a registered dietician come in. After listening to her for 2 days, I see why people do not know how to eat and it makes me more thankful for @QuadQueen

Overall, I have to come to this class to see what answers he wants, which is bullshit because they are just inaccurate

Sadly, this is an incredibly valuable ā€œreal lifeā€ skill.

You have to play the game. You obviously know that by now. I went to a course for a college credit for my re-accreditation. It was labeled a nutrition course. The woman was a plant for the Bright-Lines diet. I lasted one class.

I kinda look at it from a philosophy lens. Even if you don’t agree with it, it’s VERY valuable to understand what, how and why other people think the way they do. It allows you to meet them in the middle was far as dialog goes, which can allow you to better communicate your own point and reach an understanding.

When you assume everyone thinks and knows the same things you do, miscommunication is too easy. You may tell someone ā€œeat a lot of proteinā€ and feel like you’ve communicated your point, only to discover that, to them, ā€œa lotā€ means 20 grams, and ā€œproteinā€ means ā€œhot dogsā€.

You wouldn’t believe what I had to say and do to become a physiotherapist over here my friend. I am not sure it’s to laugh or cry about.

@T3hPwnisher I think the philosophy lens idea is a good one. It’s for sure one of those ā€œI know what he means but that’s not what he’s sayingā€ situations that I only imagine would be harder on someone who doesn’t know the actual information. For example, he said ā€œLEDs block melatonin productionā€. Yes LEDs have blue light that messes with your sleep cycle which means blue light is that actual issue. If someone didn’t know that it could very easily be interpreted as ā€œI need to stay away from all LEDs at nightā€ rather than ā€œI need to stay away from blue light at nightā€

@Friedrich Playing the game is something I know all about at this point!
@Koestrizer Having worked with some fresh out of school physical therapist, I could easily imagine what you’ve had to say!
@simo74 A tips a tip

SHG prep

Bench: 95x10, 115x8, 135x6, 155x4, 175x2, 205x2, 185x4, 165x6, 155x8, 135x10
Dips: 20 total (lots of breaking through my stiff ass shoulder)
Chins: 35x8, 45x6, 50x4, 35x6, BWx10
OH extension: 20x15,15,12
Hammer curl: 35x10,9,8
Lateral Raise: 20x15,11,8

Notes:

  • @T3hPwnisher The ā€œrunning the ladderā€ from shake it up has become a staple in my training lmao. It’s the perfect rep scheme for when I need something quicker
  • Getting really into that end point with my old man. He’s down to using 3 legs and has trouble getting up. I brought him to the park today because now I know his leg isn’t getting better and he loves the park
  • When I got home, I was the good neighbor who captured my neighbors dogs who had gotten out when he wasn’t home. Then helped him put back on the fence board one dog knocked down
  • NA beer reviews: Beckett’s flying mule has become my favorite drink in general. When I do have a mixed drink, I love a good Moscow mule and this NA one has an amazing ginger beer in it. NA Blue moon. Blue moon is my go to beer and this NA one is a great adjacent to it

You can see just how swollen his leg is here. The vet said he’ll let us know when he’s ready to go but I will say this dog is a damn warrior. He’s still running, walking, and wanting to be around everyone. I do have to hold his dinner up for him because he can’t really bend down to eat a whole bowl and he won’t use the dog bowl riser (I have no problem holding it. He deserves it)

I’m also filling out nicely from all the extra calories (I’m emptying my trash can after I post this)

Not all dietitians are bad. You just gotta find us out of the box thinkers! Take everything the other ones say and run it through a sieve, keep any worthwhile nuggets and throw the rest out with the tide and then come in here and asked me all the questions you want!

Memorize. Regurgitate. Forget. It’s classic college protocol. lol

Here’s one I can’t understand, the daily drink recommendation (2 for men and 1 for women) being ā€œhealthyā€. Obviously, she didn’t come up with it but I know if I was a RD, I’d have a hard time repeating that. How did it become the ā€œhealthyā€ recommendation? Is it more reflective of society and coping mechanisms rather than true health?

I do realize there’s a great amount of psychology that goes into the job and there’s obviously no 1 fits all answer but that specific recommendation bothers me

That’s just one of the things she said that was strange to me. The one of the others being ā€œall macros are equally importantā€ or having a sweet everyday (which was a blanked recommendation) (she redrew myplate to have a sweets section)

My hydrotherapy skills would blow you away!

Now you are just making me all hot

That is the quintessence of it, yes.

A … sometimes inappropriate teacher of ours commented on a technique that had to do with heat by saying this was also great to use on sexual partners in the context of foreplay.

Sorry for cloggin up the log. I’ll stop now with this silly bs
