The training session was shot because I had to bring bat dog to the emergency vet. Luckily it was nothing but that’s straight fucking fight or flight
10/13/24
Squats: 295x4x3, 1x1
Shrugs: 500x10x3
I still felt like shit today. I think it’s just with the changes I’m making with screen time and bad habits. Also hips are stupidly tight. Didn’t eat a lot because girlfriend is in and we were doing stuff
Also my core felt super thin. It’s hard to describe
This is a really good starting point for high bar for me. It’s my TFL in my hips that’s killing me so more a Jim Wendlerism here of “Bulgarians are a glorified couch stretch” is going to come into play for daily work. Overall limber 11 to warm up and more internal rotation work for hips
Also I kinda sit more to one side but that’s because of my left ankle. Pretty tight today
More schedule fuckery this week. Didn’t get to lift today because of studying for a chem exam
One day I will figure out this fatigue and time management shit. I feel burnt out because of school stuff and I just don’t have it in me to get into the gym somedays but in turn that makes me angry. Go fucking figure. If this persists, I might go into therapy but I’m going to actively reimplementing meditation and other calming stuff first
I think it might be time for me to switch gyms. I’ve grown extremely tired of the owner at the one I train at now. He’s a person who it’s not a good idea unless he came up with it. The kicker is he’s not strong and he doesn’t look like he lifts. Go figure. We have one guy who does conjugate and the owner always shits on conjugate to him but the dude who runs it is way stronger and has gotten a lot of people strong with it. I’ve also just grown tired of the social aspect of it. There’s high school drama and stupid shitty (really stemming from one person) but it’s hard to avoid over there. Also I think I’m looking for a more hardcore environment (like that NOLA gym I visited. Strong people were everywhere). Lastly one person started their own strongman esque gym because of how tired they got of the owner
I think there’s some disillusionment here. Strongman was really fun. Then I started to hang out with this one guy who trains at the gym. I stopped because of his bullshit (emotionally a train-wreck) but in turn there’s no other crazy people to train with
Good to hear you have stopped. The gym sounds like a bit of a head fk. There are lots of gainz to be made training around stronger people or with people with a good work ethic. If you can afford it and it works with your schedule maybe its time to find a new gym.
Thanks! Our chat not too long ago started me on getting away from it completely so it’s nice to see it come to reality completely
I was looking around and the person who started her own is the same distance away so I’m going to check that place out! She has a procard so there’s probably something to that
Definitely sounds like a place worth a visit, be open with her about your reason for wanting to move gyms and can always ask if you can train their for a free session to see if you like the vibe.
Spent time trying to loosen shoulder. Tried out close grip bench and JM press both felt like shit (I could have done incline close grip here looking back)
+1. If you could find a group or a couple of Seasoned and Older Powerlifters, I’d bet they’ll have a treasure trove of knowledge that they’ve learnt through the grapevine… probably some crazy stories too. My experience at least
Totally different situation, but I did that once lowering the gate on a trailer full of lawn equipment. No blood, not broken, but the pain was incredible, and I nearly passed out—it was a crazy-weird sensation.
Circuit
DB Press: 35x5x12
Pushdown/OH extension: 5 rounds
Toes to bar: 3x4, Switch to SL: 2x12
Notes:
Cut out the bench amrap and 1 dip amrap because shoulder felt like trash. AMRAPS will get the form to be a little sketchy for me
Strict toes to bar is hard as hell
Going to talk to the owner of that new gym tomorrow. Enough drama from the gym I’m leaving she wants to talk to me in person. It’s fucking sad but that’s what happens when shitty people (owner of the first gym) get into small positions of power like that
To the above, I’m not going to be dramatic about switching gyms. Just tell the new gyms owner how I feel about the drama and owner of the old gym. Then if she’s cool, cancel my other membership and switch over. What sucks is the old gym owner runs most of the local comps so he’d still being getting my support if I want to compete but I’m enjoying lifting rn and might dip my toes into rugby because it looks fun
I played in high school and high level college in the USA (big difference from across the pond in terms of level of play). It isn’t played enough over here! It’s a blast man, you’ll have a lot of fun. Highly suggest getting into it. Not sure of your athletic background but you are very strong and that’ll always do well out on the pitch!
Will say rugby is a big drinking culture, at least when I was in college. I’m sure a few of the UK guys can attest to that too.
