Doing Dumb Stuff as a College Kid

It’s pretty fun. It’s kinda of like the other side of the coin for “lower volume higher intensity” compared to John Meadows stuff from what I saw of his

Smooth lift! I liked a lot about it. It seems like the translation of power from the legs into the press is lacking a little bit (get your hips involved - try thinking I’m going to jump through the ceiling’). Yeah you could still be a little more patient with the lean back/ head position. Just constantly keep your eyes on the log until it is overhead. If you play the video in slow motion you can see that your sticking point is pretty much where you start to push your head through.

Thanks! I did also lose my brace on the first shot I took at 205. Going to try jumping more tomorrow to see what that brings about! I did feel that the press and drive was disconnect. Will implement that stuff with some technique work tomorrow!

Went off program today to have fun for finishing my semester and had a few arguments this weekend that left me drained

Anderson squat: 285x6x1, 265x4x1
Keg over bar: 100x1, 200x1, 260x1, 300x1 (PR!)

Notes:

  • finished my semester with a 87, 89.91, and 91. Not too bad for having 3 full classes in 6 weeks
  • Really proud of keg over bar. First time ever doing it
  • I had some crazy looks from some women training in the gym after celebrating my pr. I honestly don’t do celebrate like that that often but I don’t care because that’s some cool shit that I was happy about
  • @T3hPwnisher it seems apex predator is not impacting my performance with is awesome

Out of curiosity, do you have any advice for balancing life with this style of eating? Ended up going to dinner with family and decided to move my rampage night up because meat only wasn’t really an option. Is that about how you would do it?

Always gotta keep the mantra “we can’t let perfect be the enemy of good”. In that regard, 2 different approaches. 1 would be to find a “close enough” answer to meat only when dinning out (I’ve written a LOT about my exploits there, to include my most recent with the food trucks. Lotta places will do wings as an appetizer, and I’ll order that as an entree. I’ll order 2 entrees and hold the sides. Things like that, BUT, you have to be willing to spend to make that work). The other is, as you noted, making the meal out the rampage meal. I actually prefer that LESS, because I want to enjoy my time out with the family rather than making the meal the focus of the event.

All THAT said, I’ve toned down the rampages these days and just made them family meals. I eat carby and I enjoy myself, but I’m not gorging. Although I also recall Jamie saying that, as you stay on the diet and get leaner, your rampages will naturally self regulate downward, so maybe THAT is what is happening, haha.

Yeah that’s a good idea. We ended up at a Mexican restaurant but typically that’s my go to method!

This time it ended up working out ok but I see what you mean. I ended up eating a lot of chips, queso, a ribeye (it was the same price as steak fajitas so that was perfect), rice, and beans. Then my sister and I went to target so I got in some more cals with a frosted lemonade from chick-fil-a and a coconut water at the store.

This is the goal! I’m totally using the whole 3 hours instead of trying to get it all in one meal.

Also you’ll love this. I went to costco and spent like $100 to get some meat. This is the haul (~20lbs of meat). Going to smoke it all:

Felt like shit from the heavy keg yesterday so I made it more fun to actually train (I feel like that’s still in line with Jamie Lewis ideas):

Strict log: 180x1 (PR)
Log incline press: 165x6x5
Kelso shrugs on T-Bar: 90x15,13,15 (these felts amazing and terrible)
GHD situp: 10,5 (felt something off like one hip flexor was doing more work)
HLR: 30 reps

Notes:

  • Planned to do dips and chins but I wanted to do ring dips because it will help my shoulder more than normal dips (and the dip stand at the gym is wide asf)
  • I plan to do these later but I’m still stuck at my moms house because truck is in the shop. Kinda fucking annoying because they are just uncommunitive but it’s the last time I’m going there.
  • The upside is being stuck at my moms means that I can just chill in the pool after I lift which is pretty awesome
  • Still going off plan because I want to train everyday because I have nothing better to do these 2 weeks. Probably will hit back tomorrow at home
  • Trying to hone in on the old Chaos and Pain training style since I have the time to do it
  • Also @T3hPwnisher I did have a red tint to me after being outside yesterday. Typically I would have had a light sunburn but I didn’t. Noting because of what I’ve seen you say about carnivore and sunburns

Enjoy life, you’re not a big back nor is your physique bad.

@tlgains For sure dude! I get that! For the record, I’m more asking from curiosity versus like a compulsive need to be 100% right/on point perspective

Well you know what Freshy, I don’t care.

If you’re at a Mexican restaurant you need to order everything off the menu.

And then give it to me…
…….

Idk where I’m going with this

It’s wild isn’t it? And the sun has SO many benefits to it. We’ve been hiding for so long, haha.

Great Costco score there!

Try telling that to someone in Melbourne where skin cancer is very common. I love the sun but too much can deff be a poor choice for some.

I will absolutely tell that to someone in Melbourne. Who particularly would you like me to tell?

It’d be quite interesting to discuss the impact nutrition and lifestyle has on our ability to contract skin cancer, rather than the danger of the sun itself.

@simo74 @T3hPwnisher I bet it’s almost like people who live in hot and sunny places can get too much sun easily but people who live in colder and lessy sunny places can benefit more from more frequent exposure since it’s not always around. Same with people who are inside vs outside more

That would be interesting
