Event weights:
Max 13in Axle DL: 400lb (Training: 350lb. 50lb difference)
Farrmers walk (225lb) to Yoke (500lb): Training -Farmers: 155lb. Havenāt touched a yoke
Yoke Press for reps: 195lb: Training- 180x1 push press
60 sec sandbag 175lb: Training- 200x3
It seems like Iām close but still havenāt touched a yoke. The nearest strongman gym is 45 minutes away. Unsure when I have time to go since when school starts Iāll be working weekends
I really want to do it. Iāve been giving it all my all with what time I have and time wise. Stuffing myself with food and making time for naps just the money thing and zeroing on events makes it seem weird
I wouldnāt mind but I feel weird asking for handouts for something like this
I appreciate it. Just feel like I need the reality check to make sure Iām not being a loser!

What is the comp date again ?
Have tried reaching out to the local strongman gym and seeing what their opening times are, explain your situation and if they are open to you trying out a yoke. They might even give you a free go, its always worth asking.

October 20. So 9 weeks away. I think I could hit the numbers if I just hyper focus. Last day to sign up is September 30.
Was researching this and itās 24 hours. Could go early in the mornings because I do not want to be in that area at night. Apparently they do $10 drop in fees on Saturdays so itās very doable just have to force the time. Owner seems super cool but Iām going to look around just to make sure thereās not another gym closer

@tlgains Basically itās a local hardware store affiliated with a bigger chain.
The boss/owner/manager and his son work there.
The son is super lazy and hides all day from the cameras so his dad doesnāt catch him not working. We have like 7 people that work there and when itās down a person he doesnāt bother to help. Like yesterday, we got freight which we had to unload by hand. Someone called in sick which left us with 2 people to do freight (me and an older gentlemen) and 2 cashiers (they help with freight when they can). The son comes in at 11AM even though heās schedule for 7:15 (He does this everyday he works) and doesnāt help with the freight at all. If he did, heād put up one item and spend 10 minutes on his phone before grabbing something else. Itās not like he helps costumer during this time, he just texts in a dumb ass group chat he put me in. He does this everyday he works. Super frustrating and we call him out on it all the time. We left the trash for him to put out. He never does it on the Wednesday like heās supposed to. Instead he plays on his phone and tells his dad āI didnāt have enough timeā. Also heās racist and drops the n-word every few days. Weāve told his dad and he just said āWell he does thatā. Pieces of shit. I hope he gets his ass beat. Heās also 27 with a college degreeā¦
The boss/owner/manager is super cheap and shitty at managing the store. We donāt have A/C and it looks like thereās mold on most of the ceiling tiles. You cannot trust the inventory because he does not bother to keep it accurate. He makes the schedule the day before you work and doesnāt give it out until 5-5:30. He got under my skin today when I was running the register so the cashiers could eat when he said āWe have wheelbarrows that still havenāt been put together from yesterday.ā I didnāt get a chance to sit down yesterday because of the freight and helping costumers while his son hid. Luckily one of the cashiers said āMake your son who sits on his fucking ass all day do itā. You never hear a thanks or keep up the good work from the guy. No standards are enforced.
I get paid like $8.50 an hour so he schedules me everyday but just enough where I do not go into overtime. I can do everything except for the parts window in the store. I get that I havenāt been there long but he could at least hint at a raise or stop trying to fuck me on my hours. I told him I needed Saturday off and I would work Friday and part of Saturday. I have tomorrow off and unsure about Saturday but Iām for sure not going to be breaking my neck trying to work for him during the school year. I do not get paid enough for that. I donāt expect much but just something to show some appreciation or praise would be cool.
All of this would be way better if he hired another person. He refuses to so everyone whoās not his family gets fucked on hours. Itās a hassle to get a day off because he does not have enough employees. He let 3 of his workers who are family go on vacation for a week. This led to the 5 people left getting at least 50 hour weeks with no lunch break most days. Donāt get it twisted, heād still take the 30 minutes out of your day even if you couldnāt go on break
LMK when you read this and Iāll delete it. Feel free to tell me if Iām being a bitch about not wanting to work there anymore

How hard is it to find similar work somewhere else? definitely sounds like a place worth leaving for something better.

It really wouldnāt be hard. Itās the only hardware store on this side of town but I could easily go work somewhere else and learn something different!
Itās evident the boss is a complete pussy, especially considering how the son turned out.
Please find something better, you could definitely be making more somewhere else with better working conditions.
