Dogpile 2010

1-Nov-10
Jump rope, Jumping-jacks, sh reh
A1: C&P barx10, 65x5, 85x5, 95x5, 105x5, 115x3, 125x1, 130x1,1,0,0
A2: Pullup BWx4, BWx3 (7 sets), BWx2 (3 sets)

Almost lost the 3rd set at 130 behind and then couldn’t put it up. Left arm just was done then and I couldn’t push the 4th either. Elbows are barking a bit, may need to back off on the cleans.

3-Nov-10
Bike 5 min
Squats barx10, 135x5, (knee sleeves), 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 245x5, 265x5 (pr +5#)

GMs 155x10x3 sets

My right VMO has been having shooting pains randomly while walking the last two days for no discernable reason. So I changed things up a bit tonight and instead of going for singles I worked up to a PR at 5-rep squats. Didn’t intend to hit a PR but after I put the knee sleeves on, things felt a little better. But the damn knee still hurts walking…

PR Dance!

gotta love those unexpected ones. sorry to hear about your knee though…

Congrats on teh PR George, your squats really seem to be taking off lately.

Very smooth squattin’ Big Dog.

Those squats looked great.

Nice PR, George. That weight looked light for you.

Hard to tell your depth (angle?), but they looked just parallel to me. Try to bury the first one since that’s the one that will count.

George, my VMO kills me off and on with squats. Feels like the muscle is coming off the bone. I been doing lunges and front squats trying to stretch the damn thing out. If you find something that helps let me know. Great squating PR.

Nice squatting. Looked pretty comfortable for a PR. Looks like you have a lot more to come. Good job in keeping that lower back arch throughout.

Thanks all!

snapper - they probably were just parallel. I judge depth on the way my knees feel and the sleeves messed that up and I was probably being careful afraid I’d get one of those pains somewhere along the way.

steve - it’s the strangest thing, my VMO only stabs me while walking so far. The squats were only mildly irritating to it.

farmerbrett - it was probably light, I haven’t pushed the 5 rep range around these weights for a year. Thanks for the comment on the lower back arch - now I just need to be able to keep it while dead lifting

My VMO randomly hurts (along with my IT band and patellar tendon). I know that it might not be affordable, but any soft tissue work could really help. When I was in CA, I got a massage by a student at a local massage school for just $25! Granted, it wasn’t as awesome as ART, but if there is anything like this in your area I’d highly recommend it…just googled and found this:

Soft tissue work is magic, seriously.

I had one of these student massages once for $25 from a 17-year-old guy. He was unbelievably talented.

Congrats on that PR! Training looks very strong.

Strong work, SD. Looking very good.

Do you try to keep your bench and bentover row the same weight? I’ve been trying to do that.

yep - and even more, I keep doing sets of 5 rows at the same weight I bench for singles at the top end.

Looking good Dawg. Do you guys have a bunch of snow yet? supposed to shit on us today…

Your training is looking great. Never a bad idea to have balanced push/pull.
