Dogpile 2010

That weighted pullup was really bad-ass.

That PR went up pretty quick, I think you’re good for more soldog. You’ve been working hard, way to go buddy. I like your new squat bar, I’ve been thinking a SSB may be in my future.

405 DL, 225 front squat, and a bunch of C&P. I like what I’m seeing here. On the front squats, if your head or elbows dip, your back will follow. Keep your elbows and head up and the squats will be more stable. (I know, easier said than done.)[/quote]

Thanks Carl - on the head dip, I was experimenting with tucking my chin to relieve some of the pressure on my throat. Do you think that may be an issue because it tends to bring my head forward, leading the body forward? I’ll have to try keeping my chin up and just suck up the adams appple crush…

I’d suck up the adam’s apple crush. Of course I don’t have one but I do consistently have abrasions across my throat after I do them. I get weird looks the next day but I don’t say anything and let people think what they want

6 September 2010
Housework 2hrs, Chainsaw- 20 mins
Squats
barx20
135x5
185x5
225x3
245x3
265x1
285x1
295x1 x 6sets (92.5% of my final lift in the July meet)

GM’s 135x5x5 (probably too light, working the stretch)

Sh rehab
pin press (pin 12)
Barx20
95x5
115x5
135x5
155x1
165x1
175x1
185x1
195x1 (baseline PR)

Kroc rows 102.5# x20 right and left (PR + 3reps)

Squats felt pretty good today but I was probably just a bit high on about half of the sets at 295. GM’s were way light, I am working the hamstring stretch and could really feel them working along with the hip flexors. Pin presses are much more shoulder friendly starting from the top. I’m trying to put the pin at my sticking point just an inch or two off the chest. Probably got it close because 195 was harder than a full bench press at 195.

those krocies are lookin fine:)

thanks frenchie - i’m all tired and sore and hungry today

Good work in here, SD, you are really making consistent progress. Front squats are just plain hard and uncomfortable, but they work you like no other lift, and minor form breaks can result in total failure. Keep at them and I think you will see improvement in all your lower body lifts. I’ve never tried them with an oly style grip like that, I do them genie style, I may need to try that way to see if I can get more air in me. I doubt it, though, I think they just suck no matter how your hands are placed.

problem was - I was at work…

had a tooth pulled today - not as big a deal as one may think tho. it was a baby tooth that didn’t have a permanent one behind it to come in. Second of two. Guess I’m not mama’s boy any more loosing my last baby tooth 5 weeks shy of my 49th b’day.

Guess I’ll take an extra day rest today…

Yeah, keeping head and arms stable is more important than pain in the front squats. Some people say shrug your shoulders up to lessen the pressure, but I shrug my shoulders forward as far as I can, giving a wider platform for the bar to rest on. In any event, keep it up. It will work itself out with a little fiddling around.

You are hammering away with the PR’s George. Damn good work!

Looking great, soldog. PR after PR and everything seems to be moving in the right direction.
Great work!

Glad to hear it wasn’t a big deal. I had a tooth shatter during an SCA fight because of helmet issues and they had to pretty much rip it out. I thought my jaw was cracking.

Looking strong George. Meat had advised not to go real heavy with GMs and to get a good stretch. Thats what I’ve been trying to do. Sorry about the tooth.

Yeah, my form starts to break down with GMs at a pretty light weight (well, it’s all a pretty light weight for me). I like the idea of staying with higher reps and focusing on form with this lift.

Glad your tooth (or the removal of it) is okay, George.

…tequila…

This tooth was only being held in by some soft tissue. The roots on a baby tooth are nothing to begin with and after 48 years they gave up the ghost. The shots the doc gave me hurt worse than just pulling the stupid thing would have if I could have gotten a grip on it.

another no training day, had a late court date with my son and was starving when we got home. I guess I’m doing the one day on, two off schedule.

9/10/10
Bike 5 min, sh rehab

A1 Bench barx10, 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x1, 175x1, 185x1 x6 sets
A2 BB row barx10 , 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x5, 175x5, 185x5 x6sets

Pin Squat, Pin #16, just above parallel, barx5, 135x5, 185x3, 225x3, 245x1, 265x1, 275x1 x3 sets

Finally got to get a training session in but was interrupted multiple times. Bench felt good and reasonably easy still. I paused all but the last set to approximate competition cadence.

Pin squats are interesting to say the least. It is really a challenge to stay tight at the bottom while unloading the bar completely and starting out of the hole. Video from a cell phone because my camera can’t be found.
