I am considering mixing whey with casein post workout. I was wondering, however, if the casein slows down the absorption of whey in the digestive tract (therefore killing the main benefit of whey.)
Also, I am sure most of you have seen the study in which a group that was given whey with casein post workout had greater gains in muscle than another group that just consumed whey alone. Couldn’t have this just been because the first group was consuming more protein/calories, and have nothing really to do with casein.
You will find two groups on this. Yes that study was interesting and showed that at least in younger males that casein actually built more lean mas over the long run when It was used as a consistent protein source.
But hen you cant argue the ability of a fast acting whey right in that PWO window. a Post work out drink like Surge. Your best bet IMO is to employ the post w/o window with a dedicated pwo beverage and then follow that up with whole foods and or a casein based protein within an hour. Protein the rest of the day to have your amino acids high for sustained time
