So I’m not the only that feels guilty my unit and me aren’t there? My old unit just got back. I somehow miss it all. Even working EMS, I have a knack for keeping the bad calls at bay. Always a quiet shift with me on.

A draft is nothing more than Uncle Sam saying “We’re going through some tough times, and we need your help. If you don’t want to help, then get the fuck out.” Getting out is exactly what you’ll have to do if you wish to not serve in the armed services through the draft; or go to jail. Also, what the hell is up with this whole “slavery” theme?? The last I checked, you are an American too, and if we need your help it is your duty as an American to defend your way of life that you cherish so much. And those of you that say that a country that has to make people fight should fall, be careful what you say. This is your country too, and your very lifestyle and everything you hold dear could hang in the balance one day. The deciding factor between victory and defeat may one day be a draft.
And has everyone forgotten JFK’s famous line “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Damn, did this go to shit. Who would have thought that in America’s time of need, people would just turn their back on her; despite all of the opportunity this great nation gives them. Really, guys. With everything this country gives you, what are you as a citizen going to do in return? If you are not a draft-dodger, or have already served, this is not meant for you. RLTW

If a draft is required than eveyone’s freedom is supposed to be at stake, which means we have to pull together. That means pursuit of happiness, liberty, and most importantly life are in the balance. That doesnt mean the draft is used appropriately in all situations. W/O a draft there would have not been Urgent Fury, Just Cause, OEF, etc.
IM NOT ADVOCATING COMPULSORY SERVICE.
It is silly to completely oppose a draft under any circumstances. If that famous yellow parchment gets burned, it doesnt matter what anybody thinks is constitutional. Indeed, every opportunity should be sought, but if you wait until every last volunteer has been exhausted its too late anyway.
“Am I supposed to believe without the draft we would have lost WWII…”
You are kidding right. You know over 6.5 million were drafted. Thats kind of a lot. But you are right, seeing as how we nearly got pushed into the sea “with” those non-volunteers. This is a stupid argument if not by shear statistics. Just so you know 16 million served, but Im sure with your vast knowledge on this subject the US would have easily conquered with 40% of its forces…well, in Mexico hoping the Germans will be appeased with those States up North.
Its funny you mention this, I was sent a whole bunch of ‘rumour’ links about Mr Bush wanting to reopen the draft this time it would include the ladies.
A rose by any other name is still a rose, Kerry supposedly wants to make 2 years military service for all high school students mandatory.
I believe Kerry is on the right track there, but I dont support a draft, I dont support the war in Iraq, I dont support the presidents current views, and quite frankly I dont support the fake freedom everyone seems to be throwing around. We might be freer than other countries in some respects, but we’re alot less free then you would like to think. I’ve been planning to see the world to see what “freedom” is like in other places, the good & the bad.
On another note, if I was called to duty by my country… I would go, and I would serve to the best I could for my family & friends & the people I love. But I certainly would not be a happy camper.
I’m not saying that without those men that were drafted we would have won. I’m saying that there would have come a time when draftees would have volunteered.

I would fight. A draft isn’t “Well, you know, I don’t agree so I’m moving to Canada.” It means whether you agree or not, we are in need of you. A draft is serious business, and should be treated as such.
Like we would ever need a draft, that’s a riot.
10 Marines with knives are worth 500 civilians armed to the bone.
I’m obviously biased on the branch of military. But I assure you, when this whole thing started and we were deployed to take out old binny I remember every dam news station reporting on what the world thought, like the russians telling us how difficult it will be, how high casualties will be, etc, etc.
Oh how the media doesn’t seem to focus on that anymore, it would be an embarrasment. We didn’t just win, we rolled through it like a training mission.
We are the best, no military can stand toe to toe with U.S., no way no how. Our mission now is not to just destroy, or it would be done and done well. I grin everytime I see a Marine back in combat bandages and all, utter pride. If pride is a sin, Marines are the most f*cked to walk this earth.
/end tangent
If your soul searching leads you to protest and flag burn, so be it. That is what we fight for, so you can do just that, and talk about how big of a role you play in our nation. Just don’t burn em all, as we like our coffins draped with them.
It’s rather ironic this is being debated on a site called testosterone. I am not politically correct, and will say it how it is.
Pussies
Serving your country in time of war is not socialism…it’s patriotism. I think young people ought to do two years because they have lost that perspective. They have gone thru a generation of PC education and entitlements. Well when you demand entitlements from your goverment all of your life, sometimes they demand back.
The war on terrorism will be massive. The United States will bear the brunt of it and we will prevail. We will prevail because we have to. The alternative is unacceptable. I’ve served my country and I’d do it again but 41 is a little to old to volunteer.
When the enemy is at the gate, a certain percentage of people will fight(volunteers) a certain percentage will fight if asked (draftees) and a certain percentage will run. (the rest)
As you grow older and have children you will want this thing sorted out now so that your kids don’t have to do it. It’s called perspective and it is a view that military service, travel and family responsibility will give you. Thus endeth the lesson.
How about everyone just enlists and we can all go kick some fucking ass together?? Earn the tab, go to regiment, and join me in the slaughter of all those who wish this country ill!! When we come back, sit together drinking beer and talking of the old times when we seriously beat some ass. Really yall, it’ll be great. RLTW

Sure…go ahead and insult my manhood and call me a pussy because I don’t want to fight in a war based on LIES.
Manhood and service have absolutely nothing to do with the blind adherence to what your “leader” tells you to do.
I’d be all for serving my country if the leadership showed just a shred of honesty and integrity. Why the hell are we in Iraq? To hunt down some mythical weapons of mass destruction? Topple an armyless regime? Hook Halliburton up with some lucrative no-bid government contracts? I’m sorry, but I would hate to have a landmine blow off my legs (or the legs of anyone else) for any of those reasons.
And as for all the statements saying it isn’t my business to decide what wars we, as a nation, should or should not be fighting? Gee, that’s funny. I always thought America was founded on a belief of the freedom of the individual. Like Thoreau said…“The only obligation which I have a right to assume is to do at any time what I think right.”
Lies? I think he’s insulting your intelligence, and rightly so.
To hunt down some mythical weapons of mass destruction?
Uh, I guess you didn’t hear about that terrorist attack that was prevented…the one involving a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION that could have killed 20,000 people? Let’s get this straight. THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT ON FINDING WMD.
Topple an armyless regime?
Uh, they had an army. And why would that be a reason not to get rid of them? Terrorists don’t have armies, you know.
Hook Halliburton up with some lucrative no-bid government contracts?
How dare someone make money!!
Like Thoreau said…“The only obligation which I have a right to assume is to do at any time what I think right.”
You think that’s a good piece of advice?? That you should be able to do what you think is right at any time? Just make things up along as you go, huh? REAL good advice.
Uh, I guess you didn’t hear about that terrorist attack that was prevented…the one involving a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION that could have killed 20,000 people?
That was in Jordan not Iraq.

Fuck you, you pussy assed hypocrite
talkin shit from behind your keyboard!
Your not the only who has served and the only fuckin authority on the world we live in!
" If pride is a sin, Marines are the most f*cked to walk this earth."
Hey Uni, I’ll drink to that.

Nope. Dont support a draft.
The problem is, there are those that will argue the “following the leader” mentality" until someone is knocking their door in and carrying them away.
The draft is implemented before the situation reaches critical mass. These things take time to build. If you wait until everyone is sure their safety is threatened its going to be too late.
This is really more of a logistical issue and unless you have been a part of the largest bureacracy in the world you cant understand just how ridiculous things take to pan out, but any experience with the good ole federal government will do. It would be nice to wait until it is absolutely certain that our safety is threatened, but this is unrealistic. Definately, an unrealistic approach to attacking the need for a draft during times of war.
However, a draft for Iraq is ridiculous.
10 marines with knives = 100 civilians with guns. Wow! How close do the Marines get to start at? Are we talking 2-3 meters here? Is this in an urban environment? Do the Marines get to take a standardized test to pick the 10 best the Marine corps has to offer? Are the Marines using outdated Marine corps equipment that has been DX’d by every unit in the army first which then DX’d by Force Recon which is then issued to these 10 Marines as per SOP? Does the civilian get banned weapons?
How many of you AGAINST the draft are for things like welfare?
I am against the draft and for welfare.
Now, cleverly point out my hyprocrisy and stupidity.
