I hadn’t been to one in a long time, stopped in a while back and the two guys working there both were big dudes. One was gym rat big the other T-Nation big, both super friendly and knowledgable. Been buying ON whey there since because it comes in 5lb tubs (hint Biotest, make Grow! Whey in 5lbers) and it’s reasonable between sales, gold card and the occasional about to expire half off deals.
I never found them to be too far out of wack price wise (but I only ever buy protien, and vitamins). There’s 2 in the city, and one of them is in the mall. I don’t get hassled, and I usually go to the one that’s not in the mall. Big dude works in there is cool shit. But at the mall it’s hilarious. I went in there one day to pick up some protien, and there was some annorexic kid working. He might way 100 pounds if he’s lucky. I’m standing at the till waiting to pay, and he’s over trying to sell some poor schmuck that weight gainer shit with all the sugar. He’s going on and on, and on, and he’s got this guy sold on the cheap weight gainer, and than he goes for the upsell… “Now THIS is what I use” he says. I just about fell on the floor laughing.
I actually work there and would never even dream of doing that to someone. We don’t get paid for any GNC products, unless your a manager, and us normal associates only get paid on third-party products, and it’s not very much. It’s a sales job, you don’t offer products you get fired. If you offer products without real knowledge and are just trying to make your average sale jump, you just look like an idiot. You can tell if someone doesn’t want to hear your shit. I’m not defending the assholes that pester customers, just myself as a reasonably knowledgeable employee.

GNC online does have some decent specials from time to time with free shipping. Not in the physical store though. I called awhile back about a drink and the price for a whole case was just the individual bottle times 12. Crazy.

Really? I get a free shaker bottle with every purchase of 32oz Gatorade. 10 Gatorades for $10. Now I gots me 10 free shaker bottles. Now I don’t feel so bad when I forget them in the gym, or leave them in the bed of my truck until some funky green shit starts growing.

That shits too funny. Dont get me wrong, some people struggle to put on weight, but still know their shit. But dont go saying I do this! or I use these pills! when you weigh 100 lbs yourself and cant even lift a chick up to fuck her on the wall!

I get most everything online, but do go into GNC when I need something immediately. I know a guy who works there and told me that their base pay is a little over 8 bucks, but the better salesmen make closer to 20 because of pushing certain product that gives higher commissions. That is why for 2 months they are all about product x, but then they are all about product y, and 2 months later product z. They push what they get commissions on.
Funny story with GNC is I just moved to the town I live in now and hit up GNC for some NaNo Vapor and the sales guy with a super tight collar shirt and 14 inch arms wouldn’t ring me up until he finished his pitch on whatever gnc brand stuff he was pushing. I told him no thanks, I know Vapor works. He said, “come on bro, the is what I use and got great results.”
Another story is from the GNC in my old town. I went in to see if they sold Casein protein and the girl said they don’t carry Casein brand. I explained it wasn’t a brand, but a form of protein that is slower digesting and that it is sold by many companies, to which she once again explained to me that they don’t carry that brand yet but check back in a few weeks because GNC carries the best products so they’ll probably eventually get it if its a new product.

I hate GNC… with that said… i got a $10 off $10 purchase at GNC so i go in to get some BCAA’s (usplabs) since im running low… guy rings me up its 27.80 after the coupon which means it was on sale for 36.99 before…
go home check vitamin shoppe… no coupon regular sales price? 29.99 thats a 30% markup for GNC… i would’ve paid the extra 1.50 or so for the vitamin shoppe pts i would’ve gotten…
online shopping > vitamin shoppe > GNC

Oh, I got some muscle milk there once (the cake batter flavor) for 16 dollars on a gold card day with it on sale.
