They aren’t. They are called “K Pipe” curls. Important distinction there my friend. Get yo shit together!

Your face =(
Loving Scott tricep extensions at the moment, seems to have really lengthened out the tris
Are k pipe curls intended more for the brachioradialis? It seems a benefit of the reverse curls is to work the extensors as you hold the weight up, but k pipe curls take that portion out.
On a similar note, pinwheel curls kill my brachialis and brachioradialis.

You mentioned in the “a different way to ramp” thread how you switched from ramping sets of 8-10 to that method of going lower rep on the warm up and then a few top sets. Are you only doing that for certain muscle groups then?[/quote]
Whoops, missed this. I switch my routine up every 8 weeks or so. So now I’m back to regular ramping. I’ll probably go back to the other style on my next training cycle.
HEY Kb, in a means to bump this thread, allow me to ask your question. Now personally, i also use CGBP with the elbows flared. I do have relatively strong tris, so when i do these, i get into some serious weight (315+), and its also around this point that my chest, being the eager beaver that he is, attempts to jump into the game. My question for you is do you try to keep the weight lower, or do you ramp to your hearts/egos content like myself?

Dude, how do you do yours exactly? Not that I want to answer for kingbeef, but that sounds like you don’t really set up properly… With a real powerlifting bench setup (grip width as wide as necessary, or else the bottom position is going to mess up your tightness and your wrists) and execution you can make these all tris, some front delts at the bottom (with a fairly wide grip even all tris and back) and some back with practically no chest…

Ya know, I used to love close grips. Your explanation of the setup really made them work awesome for a while but once I was working with 405 for 5+ reps it felt like I was going to get a pec tear at the bottom of the ROM and the smith machine I have sucks so I don’t like doing them in there. I had several scares so I ended up scrapping the movement, shame ![]()

Probably too much ROM for you (arm length), or you simply didn’t stay tight enough due to your back being too weak…
I’ve actually run into similar issues recently… Decided to change my grip to a rather wide one to limit ROM as much as possible without killing my wrists… So now my elbows never really break the level of the bench, roughly, if that… With the right setup and execution, you can bench wide and still have very little to no chest in there… I started that fairly light and am already up to about 50 lbs below my best CGP with no delt or chest discomfort. The way I do it is very arm intensive though (flexors too).
Another thing that’s helped me: Always do CGP’s first in the session… Doing flat or incline bench first is imo a bad idea…
Too bad that your smith machine sucks man… A proper smith is a godsend for tricep training.
(Do you guys want me to talk about the whole setup thing again or not? There’s actually a really good article series on elitefts on that)
Have you guys tried doing them with no setup except retracted scaps like Frank McGrath? That’s what I’ve been doing and I like them alot, although I’m only doing like 185x12 so obviously I’m not going have the problems you guys have.

I’ve always marveled at how graceful McGrath can make every exercise look… On those 405x8 or whatever flared CGP’s he does in the animal arms vid, his body isn’t even shaking or anything if I remember right… Just perfect groove etc…
I can’t really press like that though, my structure doesn’t allow it.

I think I saw a more recent video and where he did 315x8 after some pre exhaust pushdowns, but when you use that form where it’s basically only your arms moving with no bounce it limits the weight you can use, I think that’s maybe why he chooses to use that form… Although he did tear a tricep anyways from my understanding so maybe it doesn’t matter.
Looks pretty though

He tore one of his tris, that’s why he’s using so much less weight now… (not sure if he’s back up to his old strength levels these days)
Edit: Am I stupid or am I stupid? You already mentioned the tear and I totally didn’t notice lol
Hmm I’m just checking out his old animal pak vids and he only did 315x6, but he did a few sets of rope pushdowns beforehand so that’s probably why.

Nah, that was 405, it’s just hard to tell from the angle.

Yeah that makes more sense for a guy with his developement
