Do Women Really Prefer a Dad Bod?

That’s legit the one thing I’ve got going for me is traps :joy: they do indeed like them. (Small sample of course).

“He does well with women”

What does this mean? Make them laugh? Or fuck them?

Both. He always has women around him. It baffles me honestly. If you were to see this guy, you would not think he would attract any women lol. He is really outgoing.

I’ll say, I don’t think he would do well in the bar scene. He doesn’t have that initial attractiveness (at least I can’t see how he could). He wins them over. I will say he is a fun person in general.

This is more than 1/2 the battle

Women tend to value personality factors more than men and value looks less

I’ll agree in some circumstances. Like I said, I don’t think he would do well in the pick up world (bars or Tinder). He does well when he is friends with the girls first. That gives him an opportunity to show off his personality and how fun he is.

Might be a controversial opinion, but I think men and women value looks fairly equally. It isn’t like men haven’t been won over by a girl’s personality. I think the friend zone is typically used by women for guys with good personalities, but not enough attractiveness. Some dudes get out of the friend zone, but most do not.

you’re right in that the differences are “significant” (ie p<.01 because of a large sample size) but probably not noticable in a practical setting with contextual factors

I’ll tell how he’d attack women in the bar scene. He’d walk in with 2 of his good looking women friends, and just watch them come to him.

I genuinely believe this to be so around where I live, or at least women may believe it’s the only option. I live in a neighborhood of downtown Chicago dominated by families and in 3 years I still haven’t seen any of the women, no matter how hot or fit, with a guy who DIDN’T have a dad bod. I walk through the park every day to and from the gym and the women look at me like I’m an alien.

This is outstanding, though I suppose it is somewhat position dependent. But I think the physique of a back rower or a big center is unparalleled. In my mind I’m a Nonu / Vermeulen / Messam type. In reality I have to fight to avoid looking like a stringy nerd.

As luck would have it - I am a rugby player / now strong man.

Her idea bod is back rower. Tom Wood is someone we can both agree on I should look like more. As I say - she is not into overly muscular / lean guys.

I have to fight to be anything other than fat and soft!

Did we just become best friends!?

Watch - plenty of people have regretted that decision!

There’s a reason I don’t have friends :joy:

My weight has fluctuated a lot over the years. Female friends would get “upset” that my waist was so small when I was skinny. When I started working out and gained a ton of weight, some would comment about my physique while others would say the usual passive aggressive stuff that all of you have probably heard.

But there’s always been one constant thing ALL my female friends have said to me all my life:

“OMG why is your skin so smooth?!”

:joy:

That’s right. I think I’ve had around 10 pimples in my life and most of them appeared when I had hypothetically just ended roid cycles. Manual labour and military service in a tropical country where you can literally turn fucking brown after a single day of training in the sun. Weight training, guitar playing - even the skin on my hands remain smooth. I think I have some kind of Wolverine-like healing factor when it comes to my skin LMAO.

But, back to the topic:

I don’t think I’ve ever had a “dad bod” since I’m naturally lean so the only time I’ve really lost my abs was when I was bulking hard at my heaviest bodyweights and this usually lasted for short spurts before I recomped. When I was skinny, I’m talking about Christian Bale in The Machinist kind of skinny.

But I’ve gained a shitload of weight and lost it when I stopped training for a couple years and then gained it all back. I’ve not experienced any difference when it comes to women.

Instead, the first time I lost a shitload of weight, I got more clients because people here still thought if you’re big, you’re probably stupid at the time. It’s quite fascinating how fast the fitness industry has grown and the mindset towards people who lift have changed.

I have loads of friends. Just none of them like me / talk to me

I think this is accurate mostly accurate except the looks. This is where our conversation diverges from initial attraction to “I can see this person as a partner”. Quote any study you want, we all will turn our heads for an attractive person. If that is what helps get the process in motion, personality and other desirable traits can come out that don’t from appearance alone, only the assumptions we make about them. The factors that Chris quoted I believe are true. I also think @kdjohn s point are true based on the same logic. If you were to put all those desirable traits that the study quoted women believe about dad bods into a muscular man, I think dad bods are nullified lol. But also to the point of the study, as I pointed out earlier, since I have more musculature than the average man, I have to make sure to be the provider etc that is also desirable or the stereo types continue. So, would women prefer a muscular guy with all those traits over a dad bad with those traits, I think they would of course. Would an attractive, muscular guy get a girls attention over a chubby, yes. I guess it’s up to what we do if the ball is in our court right?

Well then I guess I am way too lean for the average woman lol

Please - my wife is not average. I think she likes guys guys with a bit more “chunk”.

She is much more into her 100kg+ 2nd row forwards and back row rugby players than her 80kg and under outside backs.

While playing rugby I never knew I had women admirers.
I truly loved the game. I wasn’t in condition to play anything but wing, as long as the wing stayed on the same side of the field. Outside center nearly killed me. I played at around 220+lbs. I gave up rugby at age 26 to focus more seriously on bodybuilding and powerlifting competition.
