Is writing a virus somebody’s fucking idea of a joke? Somebody would really take the time out of his life to write some totally malicious computer program to fuck up another person’s life even though the person who writes it doesn’t even get to see the results of his jackassery? There are some real fucking faggots out there and I think people who write viruses should be executed. How much a worthless fuck do you have to be.
say it aint so…say it aint so
Nope, I’m sure people pay good money for making and getting those viruses distributed. There will be those that do it for fun too, though.
How do you think Norton stays in business?

Disappointing but true.

Not to mention McAfee - thing is their software will often break your computer worse than the actual viruses.
The conspiracy-nut side of me wonders if Norton and McAfee fund/employ some of these virus authors through clandestine channels…
Some people write them for fun, but I imagine this is a small majority. Most viruses are for malicious intent of the author, for instance turning your computer into a slave that can be used for a DDoS attack, people who download child porn may remotely use your computer to download/store their collection so that they don’t get caught but you do, they may use it along with thousands of others to brute force their ex’s email password and hack their account, they might install a keylogger that will snipe your banking information when you type it.
Basically there’s many reasons why someone would write a virus beyond “just for fun”, but of course people still do it just to see if they can. For instance I thought I might like to try a self replicating virus that would copy-pasta itself repeatedly all over your computer and run, so that i fyou delete the original, there’s millions of copies elsewhere clogging your callstack. BAM think about hwo hilarious it would be to see that fuck someone you don’t likes computer up.
btw- Hackers is an awesome movie

Isn’t it though? I love it because it exposed the general public to the REAL world of hackers. Rather than doughy, basement-dwelling nerds with skin pallor that matches the gray walls which surround them 23 hours a day, they’re in fact flashy-dressing rollerblade experts who are able to immerse themselves in the colourful GUIs of their amazing laptops.
Who knew?
I fucking hate viruses. That’s why I now only go on the internet when I’m using Linux or inside a virtual machine. It’s a bit of a hassle, but at least I don’t have to deal with backing up all my files and reinstalling the operating system.

Or you could just not be a typical internet retard who clicks things willy-nilly. “OMG I WON A MILLION DOLLARS?” “Oh wow my computer has a virus and this convenient web popup was nice enough to point it out, better click to fix it” etc.

Man, screw that mission.
Eset Smart Security + common sense = virus free life.

That and keeping everything updated. While I download a crapload of torrents, I typically only get the ones through 2-3 uploaders. But I’m pretty sure AV security suite (virus) got to my computer through my outdated java. But meh.
And at my school there’s been a few viruses uploaded to the school system which hit the whole network, when the kids are usually asked what the fuck they were doing, they just responded with “We’ll I just got taught this in class, and I wanted to see if it worked. Plus I’m retarded.”
Some people write viruses for commercial gain. But I think most viruses were created by smart people who wanted a challenge. For example, suppose that your virus scanner looks for a specific bit of code to recognise a particular virus. Then a clever person may think to create an algorithm that modifies that code, so that when the virus infects an executable file, the virus scanner cannot recognise it. Of course, it’s still a destructive way of demonstrating creativity.
Imagine getting the Facebook credentials of one kid, now do it 400,000 times.
You can sell those creds for up to fifty or sixty cents a piece, man.
This is why I’m glad I now have two computers. My new computer which is just a gaming platform doesn’t get that much browsing use. Just normal sites like Facebook, Youtube or gaming sites. The other one on the other hand, is already infected and is my browse weird shit and watch porn computer. It’s swell.
haha that’s a good idea…my computer crashed from a virus so bad and I lost so much information on it. It’d be nice to have one computer just to keep data and files on it with no internet use so it doesn’t fuck up and the other to fuck around on.
Can you get viruses through online gaming? I’ve played online many times…counter-strike mostly never had problems.
Whats the deal with Mac’s not needing AV software?
Also, I knew a kid in highschool who said he could hack anybody’s comp. Kids in class doubted him, said their AV could stop him. He said IM me on AIM this evening. They did, and a few minutes later he shut their comp off. all he needed was thir IP address. He didn’t do anything malicious, just like a hey, isn’t this cool lol. He could go in and change the alert on the norton or macafee to say insert his name here is hacking your computer. Scary shit- and that was back in highschool.

Most people use Windows, therefore most viruses are written for Windows platforms.
That kid was probably using scripts that exploited vulnerabilities in AIM, or tricked people to installing a trojan. There was a famous network admin tool called BackOrifice which did this and more.
