Do Meatheads Dream of Iron Sheep?

Without getting too specific, some changes are definitely needed, and soon!

Anderson Squat

220-ish pounds of passed-out female dead weight for one rep

Loaded carry

220-ish pounds of passed-out female dead weight for about 50 feet, from bar interior to exterior.

The paramedics handled the task of loading her in the ambulance, which is really too bad. I think that would have had some good carryover to my deadlift.

Kettlebell Goblet Squats - 88 pounder

Notes: The whole powerlifting team was deadlifting except for the guys competing at the Arnold. So I just worked in with these guys and winged it. Rest was pretty short with 4 other guys on our platform. Fun workout. Quick way to get gassed and I’m super wiped-out from bouncing last night. My first shift since the night before Thanksgiving. Two more this weekend, we’ll see what sort of crazy shit happens!

Awesome - looking forward to more tales of mayhem. Love the story of passed-out female dead weight (might be my sick sense of humor…). Not quite your max dead, but the weighted carry helps offset that.

@dhoke231 That was without a doubt the most difficult carry exercise I’ve ever done. Loaded carries are not something I’ve trained a lot, so its not like I’m some beast when it comes to them.

Still, there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, easy or simple about collaborating with a coked-up drunk guy claiming to be a medic. Especially when you need to move a tall, large and totally limp woman off of the pavement in a smokers cage out back, through a doorway, up some stairs, then through a crowd of people, down some more stairs, through another doorway and then a narrow passageway and then finally into a bar stool out front.

It was about halfway through this journey when I realized just how worthless this so-called “medic” was. If he had medic training, it was of poor quality. I was able to coach him into holding her up just enough for me to Anderson Squat her onto my shoulders and haul her out the door myself.

I was sweating my balls off. I’m glad we talked her coterie into making sure she got in an ambulance vs. taking her to the hotel and taking super really extra good care of her they swear.

Otherwise it was a great crowd of really fun people. I still love this job!

A bunch of sets maybe 6 or 8 each

Notes: 60 minutes. I skipped press day last week because I was bouncing Friday night and my back was still fried from the high rep deads on Thursday. This workout took a little too long but I was having a really pleasant conversation with a very talented, accomplished and experienced natty lifter. He’s competed in many natural BB’ing shows and now competes in the USAPL.

I suppose this is one of the pitfalls of lifting with other meatheads.

Er, did you do squats?

Ah nope those were deads. Forgot to label them!

I was also coming down with a NASTY flu bug, which hit me hard at about midnight last night and kept me up in misery all night. The hellish part seems to have passed, but my appetite feels miles away from returning.

So yeah. Recovery will be shit. I’m sick and really sore. This sucks and I’m done bitching now.

Quick, weigh yourself before you fully recover! That’s some weight loss “gains” waiting for you…

I kid, I kid, hope you feel better.

@punnyguy Thanks!. I did shed a little bit of weight from the sickness and I’m most definitely feeling better after a little break!

Notes: 1 hour ish, forgot to time it. I just took the whole week off. Not eating for 3 days after the heaviest deadlift triple of my life wasn’t so much fun, but I don’t think I’m any worse for wear. I just wanted to get back to the gym, hit some heavy-ish lifts and do some work.

I also squatted with the Texas Bulldog Bar for the first time, as well as squatting in the monolift for the first time. Squats were all walked in and out, but it still felt a little different. That bar is massive on my back and I think I prefer the regular Texas Power Bar for squats. That bar just locks right into my back.

Otherwise I’m glad to get back to moving heavy stuff.

Man, right off the death gurney and into a 2-big-lift workout.

I’m happy to see you back posting in here.

@bigjeff68 Thanks! I’m glad to be back. I probably should have been back lifting last week, but I had a lot on my plate and the week off helped me manage all of the adulting I had to do as well as recovering from the deadlifts and viral gastroenteritis or whatever it is I had. I haven’t been that sick since I was in elementary school. Nasty nasty stuff.

I’m back at it now though!

Be mindful of possible relapse. Time off is good.

Notes: Still feeling weak and performing weak, but I think I’m finally bouncing back. Feeling so much better today. Might do the DL challenge on Thursday.

Haha “bouncing” back…I get it. Glad you’re feeling better - I hate to do it but recovery from illness usually is quicker when I lay off lifting for a week. What is the DL challenge? Did the partner check-out permanently? Seems like most injuries would have healed in 6-8 weeks. A good partner is hard to find.

@dhoke231 The DL challenge is 405 on the bar. 1 rep every minute on the minute for 29 minutes, then as many reps as possible in the final minute.

My partner hasn’t checked out entirely from lifting. He’s been doing martial arts a few days per week and lifting at a very small, cheap gym across the street from his house. My gym is about a 20 minute drive for him, so it mostly boils down to time management for grown-ups.
