Notes: I did something to my calf on 455. I’m not sure what yet, but I decided to call it and rest. It is definitely injured. Hopefully I feel better tomorrow.

I’m also noticing that I’m getting beat up easier lately. I never seemed to get injured when I was stuffing my face. My calf was actually sore yesterday and I’m not sure why other than my recovery may not be where I’m used to it being.

Not getting any younger, that’s certain.

I noticed the same effect. I tore my ACL while I was losing fat, and prior to that I kept dealing with a lot of little nagging injuries. It’s the tradeoff sadly.

Thanks for stopping in and it is nice to hear I’m not the only one who noticed that effect. I miss that bulletproof feeling of being well-fed when I’m under the bar, but I need to earn the right to eat big again.

At this stage I’m just taking it as a sign to dial in my nutrition a little better and maybe start taking mobility work a little more seriously. Wednesday was my worst day intake-wise in a few months, which probably set me up for my poor performance and injury on Thursday. It was a low-calorie and bad macro day thanks to a hidden treasure of two year-old chocolate chips found while rummaging through my pantry after a few cheat beers. Probably ended the day around 2500 calories with about 1200 coming from chocolate and beer.

That bag of chocolate chips is in the trash now and the beer wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as I remember it being. My calf is still tweaked but it feels better. I’ll probably be doing all of my upper-body work in a seat later today while I ponder the wisdom of my choices.

Thanks Canada_K. 455 is a good pull by most measures, but I can do a bit more than that when my body doesn’t put a stop to my plans for the day.

Hey Canada_K, thanks for stopping in. I think I’m still good for a five plate squat if I went in fresh and had a big spaghetti dinner the day before. I did 475 the other week with a bit left in the tank. Sadly, I’m still stuck with a very mediocre bench and overhead press. But since you’re here, I’ll share my secret to a big squat.

Step 1 - Gain 140 pounds and carry it around for 10 years. Do very little during this time, but make sure you get from one chair to the next safely. Your mantra will be “yes, I would like extra cheese with that”.

Step 2 - Join a gym, acquire hideous toe shoes.

Step 3 - Belly of powah.

Worked for me!
