Do Fat People Piss You Off a Little?

Can we get back to talking about soviet weaponry?

This conversation is becoming more grating than the sound of Stalin’s organs

:man_shrugging:t2:. Im just not much of a gun guy, really. I can hit stuff with them pretty good, but other than that I dunno.

Ok with archery too. More traditional or minimalist on that too. Not into the overdraws and triggers and whatnot, but man, the velocities now are noticeably higher.

I think we both know it when we see it. I don’t have any examples of organized campaigning, just people explaining what’s wrong and…well, it’s women. On second thought, the changes in abortion laws may be an example. Again, people waiting for the winds to change.

The problem with that is that it’s bullshit. I would imagine I could hire a very competent nanny - one who manages the household to some extent, e.g. light cleaning, some cooking, available to let the cable guy in - for $50K or less. I would expect to pay a live-in less if her evenings and weekends were her own, the same if she was on-call.

However, @mnben87 is right - being honest about monetary value does NOT devalue the role. We each have 24 hours in a day. How we spend it should vary as greatly as people themselves do. I have in the past used (our shared) income to pay for cleaners. Recently I dropped a day of work and spend my Mondays now largely engaged as a housekeeper. I earn more than house cleaners do so it’s a loss in terms of money, but I like doing it my way and something about puttering at home soothes my soul. I still expect help from my husband on pre-company deep cleaning because we both live here and all. There is no question that I make more in my role as a behavioral health provider than I could as a cleaner or concierge grocery-shopper, as I don’t bring expertise to those endeavors.

This summer the phrase “the new tractor” was used. ~blink blink~ Is that the new giant John Deere tractor from like 6 years ago?? No. No, it’s not. It’s the new smaller John Deere tractor from like 6 months ago. He keeps a separate account for his work expenses and reimbursements, which is where surprising new farm and construction equipments are funded. I’m fine with it. We discuss car purchases to death, have been agonizing over a gas stove for our little fireplace whose chimney would need to be rebuilt for wood to be burnt in it, etc. If he talked to me about a tens-of-thousands-of-dollars tractor, I’d freak. So we do monthly budget meetings to manage our combined incomes less the expenses account, which I don’t see (though I could if I wanted) and we both fret and stew over when to replace the roof and how much to “send to David,” our money guy. And I buy whatever I want, which is mostly clothes and stuff for the house. It works. We both want the same thing; happy me, happy him. I don’t really understand his passion for the 165 acres that needs excavators and dump trucks and tractors, but it is his passion, and also where he keeps himself muscled and fit. Happy him, happy me.

I have no idea how the guns come in. I never see it happen, but I know he shows things to the other guys at our annual shooting weekend. Would he show the same gun to them year after year? One finds this doubtful.

Sure, and these dirty and dangerous jobs pay very well relative to the education expense needed to attain them. They certainly pay more than I earn! Which is fair. I’m not sure what you mean. Are you hearing a clamoring of women who want to work the offshore oil rigs? Or women wanting equal pay for, say, IT work given equal qualifications and seniority?

Of course men can and do change diapers, but society would certainly be hit hard by women’s refusals. Let’s take for instance nursing home workers, the women changing the diapers of dementia patients. What a mess, should women say fuck it. But I’m not arguing equivalency - I don’t care. If either sex opts out somehow, there will be chaos. Because women are half the people. So it’s silly to say “oh boy! if men decide they’re done, watch out!” Sure. Of course. Obviously. But same women. Wouldn’t that be just as obvious?

Particularly for the men who like women.

That sounds awesome!

If I had something like that I’d start a wild mushroom farm. It might take a couple hundred years to get good though.

No. :joy::joy::joy:

My wife’s last car I bought her was a surprise. Mind you she had test driven it and loved it, but thought it was too pricey. (She’s the saver). I showed up with the maxed out vehicle she wanted in her exact favorite color inside and out.

She was pretty mad, but she didn’t take it back .

It would suck without women too. Quality of life would suffer tremendously for men and everyone in general.

That is quite different from the infrastructure of society completely crumbling and ceasing to work though.

Maybe I look at it more like a chauvinist, but I love that women are physically weaker, smaller, feminine because uhhhh I like women. I want to protect them and care for them and be the line of defense in front of them.

No matter what the lunatics say every single person is born from a XX chromosome woman. That alone holds an integral and amazing spot in my book.

When you’re loaded do you pay straight cash for cars, or still finance?

Pay cash for personal fun cars that we want to keep long term.

We have leased cars for her in the past. Depending on the deals and what was offered. I always want her main car for carrying around the kids to be no more than a few years old.

She has a handful of cars for her business. We lease those, except the 2 transit vans to write off on taxes.

No. We all hear women and their white knights saying they should run things but part of running things is being able to do things.

Not exactly. Women not changing diapers won’t cause the world to end. Men refusing to do those things that produce food and energy would end the world.

Man, when the interest rates were low I was borrowing from a liquid asset line against my portfolio for 1% or less. I was buying a new super car every year and turning it over without losing a ton. Money was so cheap I never paid cash. I miss that. I just tried to borrow 200k for my latest car and they wanted 9-10% LOL. I almost did cash but found a 5.5% and ran it through my company.

Run the numbers, and do whats best case by case. Accountant style.

I guess that makes cents.

Definitely depends on the car, what your plans are with it, rates, etc.

Certain ones I just pay cash for. I’m friends with a large dealer, so I get dealer cost on most all vehicles.

I’ve kinda moved away from the sports cars arena. I’m more into big trucks and vehicles with utility these days. I don’t have to time to go enjoy sports cars like I want to. I’d rather that time be with my kids.

When they get older and doing their own thing - dad will probably get back into racing.

Agreed. I always look at it from a simple stock market long game perspective. I avg “X%” per year return so will I make more borrowing or investing. At 9-10% i would have paid cash as its close. At 5.5% my money is better off with my broker, especially when I do a company vehicle.

I’m too short for a big truck . I can hear the jokes now. I like some bad ass diesels though. I moved away from the harsher riding sports/exotics and went with a Porsche Targa. Yeah its heavier than the standard but its more touring car with a ton of balls if you need it. For my back up I got a puny little Maverick, but I actually like it!

I was asking for an example of how life is only harder for a certain group of men. But instead, I’d ask: what great changes have happened in society since the sexual revolution and affirmative action?

Do you think the US is in a better place culturally today than it was 60 years ago?

:joy:
Not going to touch abortion. We arent going to agree.

From a wealth management standpoint @blshaw probably had the “right” answer.

I personally don’t have the patience for nuanced management. I use a pretty rudimentary bucket system with various managed accounts set up for specific financial goals over time with a managed endpoint in line and play the rest fast and loose.

To directly answer, I pay cash for vehicles and without consideration of leveraging various rates as I’ve already bookmarked the money I want to invest. I would consider a 0% interest loan if I was in the market while they were being offered, but I do like walking out of the dealership to be followed by a title in the mail a few days later.
