I love Europe. We try to go every year, but the economy held us back in 2009. Next up, however, is probably Maui. Mmmmm. Maui!

Hey there! I was watching your video and from what I see you arent breaking at the hips first. You bend your knees and sit back almost simultaneously and I think it would make a big difference for you. I see that you dont come up to a full lockout at the top, which doesnt matter normally, but it may help you feel yourself sit back at the hips first before bending the knees.
Also, a tip that i use with my clients is slightly curl your toes up right before each rep. Just enough to trigger in your brain to keep the weight in your heels. I know you have very long legs, but do you ever squat below parallel? Even with lighter weight? It would make a huge difference even if it was starting at just the bar.
Then you could also consciously activate your hamstrings and glutes at the bottom. Another exercise that may help would be dumbbell sumo squats and really start working on your hamstring flexibilty. I hope this helps!

sweet! thanks for the tips!
if i lock out my knees at the top my knee KILLS me later. it gets super stiff and yucky.
i try to remember to lift my toes on squats and especially deads. sometimes i forget… ![]()
i do squat deep with front squats and used to do big sets of back squats at 95 atg.

this is definitely what i need to focus on. hamstring flexibility!! thanks!! any tips on the best way to do that??? i should just spend a couple minutes researching it. doh.
so we need to know moar about ze black widow. now!
so the last few days, my gf and i tore up the entire back yard to put in a brick patio. it was a SHITLOAD of hard labor… over 8 hours of work each day. tons of carrying heavy bricks, digging and shoveling, wheelbarrowing hundreds of pounds of sand, etc… etc…
i’m completely pooped… but we finished!!! we didn’t know if we’d be able to pull that project off by ourselves. and gotta love the price of FREE… since our landlords bought us the pavers from a foreclosed place. woot. now we have a place to chill that’s private from the farm traffic. i know where i’ll be laying out all spring. lol

i bet you prolly lost a lb of fat too! i will keep cursing all you skinny (ok LEAN) biatches in the midst of my jealous fits. ![]()
doing projects like that rule!! i’ve already tore up my yards, so no free labor/wrkout for me. that sounds awesome…the job itself and the finished project, a private patio to tan your buns. or something…does this mean you will take it easy for a day or 2? i didn’t mention a few posts back thanx for food/diet info. i get confuzzed sometimes…
**skye-sorry, i knew it was you but in my buzzed state i didn’t quote you…apology for the non-quote and buzzed dumb joke. i love them and lilies as well…
Barcelona hell yeah! We’ve been there twice and would go again now for a price like that. Have fun!
Hey there…workouts look awesome!
Just wanted to say I lived in Barcie for several months, so if you would like any tip s recommendations, etc, don’t hesitate to ask. You will have a blast, but it will definitely be almost impossible to stay on any kind of legit diet unless you wanna THROW DOWN money. So plan on having a blast eating tons of tapas and drinkin sangria…oh my its the shit.
Also, you gotta hit up Maui lady. Best. Ever.
awesome!!! i’m so excited!!!

oh man i’ll definitely hit you up for some tips!
and from kimba… lots of amsterdam tips. keep em coming please.
there’s no way in hell i’ll watch what i eat. that would be blasphemy and so antivacation. i will eat and drink myself into a merry bliss. and add smoke and probably trip balls to the amsterdam portion. haha
oh i’ll attach a couple pics of the patio project…
Wow.
I am always awed by people who can build things.
You train outside?? That is awesome!
alisa… i so can’t build shit! the gf has a bit of skill… but really we were both floundering for awhile on how to do the whole thing.

lol… yup… squats and mp are usually done out there at least.
i have a bench and a couple barbells/weight sets inside too. ;+)
did you rent a compactor…

nope. just spent hours and hours using the red tamper u see in the pics.
we did use a bobcat to drive down and scoop fine sand from the riverbed. but we had to wheelbarrow it all from the front around to the back. the bobcat doesn’t fit in the gate. cry.

Is that a bar?? If so, my kind of patio.
That will be perfect for laying out in bikini season.
yup kimba… it’s a tiki bar we picked up off craigslist. we do a TON of barbecueing in the spring and summer. we have a fire pit, slackline, and are hoping to get a hot tub soon to finish the back yard.
decided to just get my main dl reps in, regardless of being sore and pooped.
workout:
deadlift: 135 x 8; 185 x 6; 215 x 5; 250 x 5; 280 x 6
not the best top set… but after two hard days labor and about two weeks of much lower calories… i’ll take it!
i taped all my sets. i’m trying to do that more often so i can really work on form.
i did a good job of keeping my hips down until this final set.
mother fuckers rose early every single rep. arghghgh!!!
i’m setting up nice and back… but then when i start the pull i raise the hips and lean a bit forward. i gotta keep workin on it.
wasn’t NEARLY as bad on the two previous sets.
i know gaz suggested i just start with my hips higher (high set up) and it IS a bunch easier for me that way… but i don’t want to miss out on all the leg/ass drive. dilemmas! i think in the long term i’ll be better off learning to get a decently low hip start. but maybe not. insight appreciated if anyone has any.
i’m gonna do a few sets of defecit deads after i get some more food in me. and unwind a bit from the day.
and yeah… i have no idea what that gay little leprechaun dance at the beginning was about. haha
Hips coming up first…I hate that SO MUCH in my own deadlifting! I’m feeling your pain.
Those were good. You deadlift like one of the guys I lift with…he is like 6’3 all back deadlifter. His hips do not get down as low…especially when working with a belt. He is getting better at it, but he really needs to make an effort with he wants to use leg drive. His numbers are high anyway…form is real good too.
What helps me is to pull the bar into my shins and sit back with it then pull. That just comes easy to me…I am guessing because of my short limbs and conventional stance. I just find that form gets compromised the heavier the load.
I hope some of this makes sense…I feel like typing or something
Your deads looked great to me. Great job! 280 is bad ass!!!

yeah i do try to pull the bar towards me as i pull. try being the key word. lol
i’m definitely gonna do defecit deads from a cardio step for my assistance work for the next couple rounds of 5/3/1. i’m doing em at 155 and i can REALLY feel those in my legs. hopefully it will help me get used to using that extra leg power. it’s super nice having monkey arms on those.
thanks for the help janiee and the pain sharing kimba. =+)
hey you gay little leprechuan…thas freakin funny deja, i laughed really loud when i read that!! you looked good to me. and quite petite in that video. in a good way, of course. how tall are you again? i already know you are a lean lil shit, but i was thinking you were taller.
i’m contemplating moving to this 5/3/1. need something new and i’ve been told it’s fun and by ‘default’ i should lose some fat. it seems a bit confusing, reading your all’s journals.
