deal!

oh man. worst workout ever.

i barely got the prescribed reps and just don’t have it in me to do any of the accessory work. my squat just sucks balls.

no doubt some of it is the lowered calories… but i need to work on a couple form issues. i’m leaning too far forward.

i have the hardest time forcing myself to squat when i’m eating under maintenence. when i’m eating at a surplus… i have a confidence that my strength is increasing and that i have it in me to just get them done. when i’m cutting… i have none of that confidence. this is when a training partner or working out in a gym would come in handy.

but anyways… i’ll do the accessory squats after bench tomorrow.

if i have a hard time hitting next weeks reps i’ll just take 10 lbs off my sets or something and accept i’m not going to make strength progress in my squat during a cut…but hopefully make some good form progress.

workout:

squat: 95 x 8; 115 x 6; 130 x 5; 150 x 5; 170 x 5

Geez, this squat business is such a fucking head game. Why is that?

I’ve mostly fixed too-far-forward by pushing my elbows forward during the lift until it almost hurts.

Next workout will be better.

do you have any squat vids?

I second that you should post some videos of you squatting…for someone with such an amazing amount of strength with the deadlift you squat shouldnt fall so far behind. Some people just dont find the exercise comfortable so they have a mental block. How many calories are you eating a day? (maybe you have posted this already and i just didnt see it)The mindset that you cant gain ANY strength on a cut is just that, a mindset. Im sure that Im not telling you anything you dont already know, and im sure you are frustrated as shit. Post some videos!!

i’ll take a couple during my accessory work today.

my main issue is long legs and a short torso…to get parallel my ass has to go so far back from my knees.

fuck the squats will always be my nemesis. curses!

as far as calories…bwg… i’m avg about 1700 right now.

i’ve been “bulking” with calories above 2600 the last few months… but with a vegas trip in three weeks i’m trying to get in hot tub shape.

i’m willing to sacrifice strength gains for the aesthetics atm. but i’m definitely not into that for the long term.

D-how are squats @ 170 your nemesis? fuck that’s awesome.

you still avoiding the pop-toppin’? i had a Nutty Brewnette at BJ’s yesterday…a dee-licious brown ale. it’s a joke, that is MY beer, my buddies say they are ordering a talena.

1700 and you are cutting…jealous much, T? that scale is still not down, but i wasn’t 100% compliant so wtf do i expect. only had 2 small (normal person size) glasses of vino on sunday (for $2.50 a glass at happy hour?? along with half-price DF calamari and fried oysters…)

i can do HIGH step ups for 5 reps at 145 lbs. i should be able to squat more than i can.

it didn’t help i didn’t get a squat rack until i had been training for awhile.

well i can lose fat at 1700 if i make all clean food choices, focus on macro timing, carbs mostly around workouts, lots of fat, over bodyweight protein, etc.

i’ve been completely staying out of the booze. the mini fridge is STOCKED too. fuck!

the nutty brewnette sounds dreamy… and i can never resist a good happy hour.

i haven’t had a single beer during all the great football games these last few weekends.

i’ve been tracking and logging my nutrition to a T. even weighing everything. not something i have ANY interest in doing for the long term… but i can fucking KILL it on the short term.

pretty much a normal day nutrition lately has looked like…

1690 calories… with a 30/35/35/0 percentage split for C/P/F/A

so that’s like somewhere around 140 grams protein, 125 grams carbs (net 90 or so), 85 grams fat, and not a drop of alcohol. supps = xtend, creatine, zima, multi, fish oil.

i’m actually feeling good atm… but like i said… not a long term thing. i’d feel the best around 2200 a day. but i’m not interested in slow fat loss… i just want to attempt a flat belly by vegas. it’s also saving me a bunch of dough by not drinking… that i can therefore blow in vegas.

ok enough nutrition blasphemy. time for bp and squats.

oh and we just bought our tickets to BARCELONA!!! 2 weeks in mar-apr. fuck yeah!!!

Scratch the squats. I want to see video of the 145 step ups. That’s beast.

Ditto that. I’ve only just made it to a 121lb squat! (Then again I’m shit at squatting).

I can understand the dieting thing - I do that if I go on holiday. It’s not even hot tubs - I just don’t want to look like Moby Dick the big white whale in photos. And fuck am I white.

You will love Barcelona if you haven’t been before. It’s an awesome place.

yeah bobbi… i was a stepup fanatic for awhile last cut. haha i’ll get video when i work them back in this program.

so my legs were incredibly shot after yesterdays shitty squat session.

i took these today to check out my form.

the big cues i’ve been working on lately are neck back, elbows forward, knees out out out, drive chest up from the hole.

pretty much the only one i’m succeeding at is knees out. i don’t have an issue with them buckling… but it looks like i might need a bit wider stance.

i should of moved the safeties down one… i was using them there for bottom starts the other day. but i was too lazy…so i hit them a couple times… which really threw me off.

so yeah… i see my elbows going back, my weight shifting to my toes and my butt leading out of the hole. arghhhh!! i’m also doing that thing that when my hips get low enough i keep lowering my upper body forward. lots of stuff to work on… that’s for sure.

here’s the vid at 115, 135, and 155.

cal… we’ve never even been over the pond at all. we can’t wait. 14 days in europe. woot!

we found a roundtrip flight from los angeles to barcelona (where my cousin lives) for 572 bucks a ticket and that’s including taxes and fees. can’t beat that! had to book it!

today’s workout:

squat: 95 x 8; 115 x 5; 125 x 5; 135 x 5; 155 x 4
bench press: 55 x 8; 75 x 8; 90 x 5; 105 x 5; 120 x 8 (PR)
bench press: 80 x 10, 10, 10, 10, 10
a bunch of random rowing

hell yeah!!! bench rep pr during a cutting phase. fuck yeah!!

I laughed when I saw you named that video “shitform”. It actually makes me feel better that you – strong deadlift girl – also have squat struggles. Misery does love company.

But, you made it all up on bench! Bench FTW!

oh yeah… mah squats have been always been shit. my flexibility sucks and i just suck at em. but they’re a necessary evil… especially if i ever want a ghetto booty.

some day i’ll master the fuckers. slowly, but surely.

I think thats why I hate squats…I try not to use my height as an excuse, but DAMN! It’s hard!

And yes, getting stronger while dieting, RULZ!

bench PR while cutting…sweet!!

man- i’m super stoked for you guys going to Barcelona…luuuuccckky dawgs!! i’ve only made it to London (Paris for one day trip) and Italy. i spent a LOT of time studying/planning before we went…we flew into Roma, stayed for 2 nights, train to Firenze, 3 nights, train to Venizia for 2 nights, flew back to UK for a couple nights before going home. fucking AWESOME! it helped that Italian was one of the languages i took for ‘fun’ while in college. i brushed up and was decent enough for conversational stuff.

are you staying the whole 14 days there? i would highly recommend books by that Rick Steeves character…you ever see him on PBS? he knows all the ins and outs and sweet spots in Europe…i’m soooooooo jealous…

yeah i’ve seen him! i’ll look into the books.

we’re gonna fly into barcelona… spend a couple nights there… then head up to visit a friend in nice, france… then make the journey up to amsterdam… of course…lol. and then probably back to spain for the last few days.

at least that’s the tentative plan.

If it’s any comfort I look exactly like you when I’m squating. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one with flex issues  let me know what tricks you pick up along the way.
Cheers
