I’m a little behind, but you have seasons in Cali?!
I remember a few years back(ok, maybe 10 years) we went to beach the day after Christmas
I lived all around southern cali til I was 7…

lol… it’s sposed to be high 80’s and sunny by this weekend.
it’s so crazy coming here in dec-jan and seeing all the flowers when you live somewhere frozen.
the area i live in doesn’t have extreme seasons at all. no snow or anything. but the crazy thing we get in the winter is oftentimes it will get 20 degrees at night and then up near 90 in the days. fucks with the animals and our water pipes big time. haha

don’t tease me.
Our weather has been really nuts–last Friday it was a frozen wasteland here, lows barely above zero and snow, and today it is raining and about 40, supposed to be 60’s by the weekend. Before the arctic front came through, it was warm, and I still had sweetpeas blooming.
Goats…i love goats. I would love to have some milking goats. Sadly, James wants to be a city boy. Sigh. There are some lowline/dexter cattle for sale in the paper. I would love to have those, as well. Those kind of temperature extremes are NO fun on animals or pipes, that is for sure.
Montana is the site of the all time greatest temperature change in 24 hours…Loma, Montana, January 15 1972. Was a frozen -54 degrees, and increased to 49 degrees That’s 103 degree heatwave! A close second also happened in Browing, Montana–January 25, 1916, Dropped from 44 degrees F above, to -56 below in just 24 hours. 100 degree temperature change. January is a crrraaaazy month here in Montana!
My wife is dying to get goats
we did bees instead.
do you have sharp talons, cbear?

for sure. i remember one early january i was plowing snow on a john deere tractor for UM housing in -7 degree freezing ass cold weather… and 2 days later we flew here to cali… where we wore thin tops and saw flowers everywhere…and the next day we flew to kauai where we were in bikinis soaking up the sun all day.
speaking of montana cold i always picture that sign on the way to choteau (on the 200 i think) and there is that pass with the sign at the coldest place it’s ever gotten in the lower 48. i think i’m remembering that right. lol kali was a park ranger up there so we made the trek many summers.
yeah crazy temp changes and animals don’t mix. especially weak ass bred ones like mini horses (which we have on the farm).
we also have alpacas, pigs, piglets, large horses, a donkey, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cows, dogs, cats, organic produce, and people. it’s pretty fun. i’d have no interest in owning them all myself though. it’s a lot of work.
anyways… i better go find a bunch of food and maybe bang out a complex or tabata or something. hmm. and probably some gentlemens time. and some more food. and a couple beers. and then mah old lady should be home. =+)

I’d like bees too, though I am deathly allergic…
I have a miniature horse, Moonbeam. She is a complete and utter brat, but I love her dearly. We spent two years in a battle of wills, her determined to be on my side of the fence, me determined to keep her on HER side of the fence. It did not really matter, she did a fantastic job keeping my lawn mowed, but she would charge the trail-riding neighbors and spook their horses, then follow them home. Brat.
She is of the very sturdy variety, tougher than the horses, a metabolism that can get nutrition from knapweed, I swear. My little butterball. She bosses the two big horses around, the percheron cross and the flighty arab/paint cross.
not while i still had two eyeballs.

wow so she’s tough! we have a couple toughies… but most of their mini’s have weak ass insides and a little extra hay or a crazy change in weather and they’re on their death bed.
awww pony pics. makes me miss mine horribly.

Nice pulls…
this is our first year- and it was a bad year for beekeeping in the north east.
Too much rain and wet.
we might get 10 to 20 pounds this year, not much.
the farmer with the 100 hives last year got 1600 lbs this year less then half of that
He sells his in Agway, out of his house etc farmers markets, we’ll see with ours.

last year i was in a fitness challenge for “sober october”. i made it through the whole thing perfectly. i’m obviously making up for the beer i didn’t drink last year, this year.
