Dan,
I think I speak for everyone on T-Nation when I say thanks for your fine contributions to this website, and to the world of athletics in general. We’re all sorry to see you go. The world of the Highland Games will surely lament the loss of one of its finest sons.

ooooooh…!!
knitting kilts. Raising sheep and dying wool…I can see it.
Lifting weights is stupid, I mean they are inanimate objects, what possible carry over to real life do they have? Start pressing sheep overhead! Thats a workout!
DJ,
I got around to reading what you wrote for your daughter’s graduation per your advice on Prime Time many moons ago. Great stuff. A bookmarked read for all.

Do you press them up there in Antrim, or do something else?

Rock on DJ.[/quote]
I second this. Dan, ever think about writing one for the college-age kids? Or do we have to wait until your daughter gets to that stage?

Now now. No disrespect meant!
It was a reference to something a room-mate of mine would say: he figured when he was too old to enjoy sports, beer and life in general, he might as well sit at home knitting because he’d have no business out in the real world. I was just carrying on Dan’s Gosh, I guess you are right. I’m finished. Done. from earlier.
I have a sense of humor, I got it…trust me. I did think the young buck…is it BPC?..was trying to say one thing and it came off another…

DON’T KILL ME IRON JOHN!

Dan,
It’s all good. I’m glad you understand. I loved your D-Tap interview.
Why do you not like one armed pullups and other pullup variations? Don’t you get tired of doing the same old regular pullups? What about adaptation too?
I’ve been sprinting up hills and stairs a lot lately and they are great!!! Do you sprint all out 100% or about 75%?
I know in your overhead squat article you stated to “forget about yoga and that overhead squats give you athletic flexibility.” Do you stretch statically for recovery/injury prevention/flexibility?
How much can you pull (deadlift) now? How often do you practice deadlifts or do you get that sort of practice (similiar motion) w/the quick lifts?
What do you think of gpp calisthenics in a circuit/interval fashion such as: jumping jacks, shuffle splits, burpees (squat thrusts), mountain climbers, etc for general hearth health and a “cardio?”
Hi my name is Nick and I lift weights. I have an OL meet on Saturday June 25, 2005. I have one more pound to drop to make weight. Any words of wisdom are MUCH appreciated and what are your thoughts on me nailing a 70-75 kg snatch and a 100-105 kg C & J? Thanks in advance Coach John.
I’m not DJ…but I think 75kg snatch and 105kg c&j is doable for a 85kg. 3 months doing full lifts is a decent time…don’t know how’s your training, but I think you can do a bit more on the snatch.
Since I found DJ’s site…one advice that has helped me a lot in general life is “show up”.
For one pound, skip breakfast and don’t drink water after midnight until weigh ins…I can lose about five just worrying about losing one…
One pound is really easy. 22 pounds in two days, now we are talking…
