Read some of the comments on some of the articles linked and on the petition itself on change.org. Nearly pulled my hair out at some of the idiocy and complete lack of respect for the rules of the English language. I can forgive the odd typo but I likely won’t take you seriously if you can’t bother to capitalize anything or fix egregious spelling mistakes. I also lost some faith in humanity when I saw somebody try to say that fat is just a body type.
I feel fairly confident that if Disney decided to portray a larger princess, it could be done in a way that only really angered the extreme nutjobs on either side of the argument. I’m also fairly confident that excess adipose tissue is never healthy in anybody (I won’t define excess in this context, I’m not a doctor), but I also believe in empowering people to take charge of their own life and their own body, which means unless you have a legitimate medical issue you don’t have to be fat if you’re willing to make the change. If Disney making a princess who isn’t a size 0 can help people realize they’re capable of making a change in their life, couldn’t that be a good thing?
I don’t know, I’m just spitballing and I already wrote way more than I planned to. I’m crawling back under my rock now.
