How heavy should you go on these? I was doing them yesterday and got up to 275 for 20 reps, but I have read that Louie says that you should only go up to 30-40% of your max. So how heavy should I train at?
Thanks

my guess would be 30-40% of your 1RM or a weight you can get 20 with while keeping the correct form and ballistic speed. it’s not rocket science bro’. good luck.
any good pics or vids of this variation?
yea when i do these i like ot use dumbells…becuase even at 30% a bar in the hands with that intensity can cause stress on the cns…i usually use 55lb dumbels and i deadlift right at 600…bm
heavysprout,
i saw these demo’ed in the westside seminar videos. THEY ARE BALLISTIC. basically start with a barbell in the top of a deadlift, lower to a point just below the knees (upper shin) and BALLISTICALLY drive your hips forward to the lockout. WSB recommends sets of 20 (somewhere around 3 sets or so should do) and they will fry your hams. i don’t know about other people, but i only perform these with a tight arch. i don’t know of any web links with any video clips, sorry.
These were done very balisticly when Dave Tate showed us at the seminar. However, im not quite sure if they should be performed as a fast RDL with the knees held at a constant slightly flexed position or as a fast partial deadlift where the knees actually bend.
Can anyone clear this up?
any other pointers guys?
they still havent got a reverse hyper at 24hr so i thought id give these a try.
i cant feel em for shit.i did 3 sets of 20@ 135 and 3 sets of 15 at 225. am i supposed to feel a “stretch/contraction” in my hamstrings at the bottom/reversal point? i have very good hamstring flexibility–do you think this is limiting my technique? or should i simply be thinking more along the lines of “bouncing”. ehhhh… ill keep practicing them.
This exercise is simply a partial deadlift. Bring the weight down below the knee then fire it up. Try 3x20 with a given weight, if you can’t get 60 total your going to heavy.
Also for fun try to deadlift 135 for as many reps as you can get. I did 50 on Louie’s SPECIAL STRENGTH tape/dvd. I eventually worked up to 80 reps with 135…damn that hurt!
check out www.westside-barbell for the dvd.

cool fellas, thanks for the info.
I really need to hammer my deads and squats for the the highland games.
I don’t know anyone my size that has put the 56# WOB over any significant height. I know it can be done but I’ve got a long painful road ahead of me to get it done.
Thanks for the clearification guys. I might try the 50 deadlift thing next ME day.
