Dieting and sleep

hey, just wondering if lack of sleep during a dieting phase could hinder fat loss. obviously, adequate rest is imperative when bulking up and trying to add LBM, so just wondering if its just as important when trying to drop body fat. thanks.

Either way, the more sleep you get, the greater amount of GH your [resting] body will produce. So, as growth hormone has positive effects on both LBM gain and fat loss, it would likely behoove you to get more sleep rather than less while dieting.

On a personal level, I find that I need much more sleep during a very severe diet, because I just get entirely too worn out otherwise. Hope this helps.

i would agree with the last post, but i would also suggest it is important because of mood. i know that when i am dieting, if i don’t get enough sleep, i’m a total prick. of course, some people say that about me regardless???

One night of all out clubbing gives the answer. Nyah dude… you’ll lose lots of fat because you burn more energy when you’re awake then when you’re asleep, but you’ll also lose LBM. I would highly recommend getting sleep for your brain and for your musculature.

Wouldn’t lack of sleep lead to higher cortisol levels? If so, this can hinder fat loss as well as increase the likelihood of losing LBM.

What is lack of sleep for you? I’ve noticed that when you hit your ideal needs you’ll have the most success losing fat. I do agree from experiance that you would probably lose more fat if you had less sleep because extended high waking metablosim. I doubt this would work ideally though. You’ll make more permenant fat loss with proper sleep and still maintain LBM. I do suggest occasional shock. This goes with all aspects of building. Mix it up a little. Fast occasionally… as well as go without much sleep on occasion… but do this rarely and don’t do it in the extreme.
