Look I know there are hundreds of posts about the anabolic diet and it’s simplicity but I need
to have a question answered and I have not found the answer anywhere, I have scoured the world wide web and this site and still cannot find the answer. So other than emailing DiPasquale and trying to ask him I thought I would ask you guys as I have the feeling you may know.
How come diet coke is allowed on the Anabolic diet?
My understanding of diet coke and it’s ingredients is that it contains no carbs
however it contains caramel, Now I am pretty sure the chemical structure of caramel is practically sugar, either my understanding is wrong or I’m missing something.
I have the feeling this is a simple answer and I have over looked it.

Are you talking about the caramel food coloring?
I am going to assume you are talking about the food coloring. You are probably picturing a big delicious caramel in your head, especially if you are an the anabolic diet, but it is more like a pinch of chemicals.
And although it is harmful to digest large amounts of any chemical, even vitamins, it probably does not negatively effect any aspect of the anabolic diet.
Mighty Stu on here as dieted down quite successfully using diet coke. Not that I endorse diet coke, but it appears under controlled circumstances you can have your diet coke and drink it too.

Yes! Yes I was lol. I didn’t even think of the food colouring but that must be what it is.
Whilst I read the book it’s states that it can be consumed but needs to be limited, I know that this is going to purely depend on the person and many other factors but two extra questions for you guys:
if anyone has played around with amount consumed, what average amount consumed did you find that it began to effect results that were seen? I can see that I will need to play around with this so I can get a rough average too.
Does anyone know what chemical(s) or Macro/micro-nutrient(s) that causes the the results to stop?
The helpful answers provided so far have been a great help

Are you still taking about Diet Coke? Anyone saying they had okay results on the diet while drinking 4 cans of diet coke but then had sh*tty results drinking 5 cans is supplying anecdotal evidence. Not only would the information be very subjective it would not necessarily translate to you. You can experiment with different amount of diet soda and find what works for you but I really don’t see is being an issue at 6 or less cans.

Stop sweating the small stuff and follow the diet. If the author of the diet hasn’t mentioned things to stay away from your fine.

Doesnt diet coke have sweetener 950(Ace K) in it? These have been shown to stimulate insulin secretion. Not what you want if low carbing [/quote]
Thank you so much I didn’t know that.
That may explain my trouble when low carbing and adding diet soft drinks. I always get a similar response from my body (sinus etc) as when taking sugar!!

QFT…also diet coke and sodas in general can cause bloating in many people giving an ugly protruding stomach look. I know when I drink diet coke regularly, it’s not uncommon to have my tummy swell 3-4". I only drink water and green tea now (bagged lipton is good and cheap…don’t drink the ‘soda’ green teas though).
