Is dextrose derived from corn ?? i found maltodetrin and corn sugar at a beer making supply store… then i got confused, i thought malto. was corn sugar, but is it dextrose ??? (i know, i know… a dumb question from someone who should know better)
I’m not sure exactly what corn sugar is either. Maltodextrin is the same as glucose polymers and is usually made out of corn starch but there is different grades of maltodextrin with slightly different characteristics and slightly different GI. The basic difference between maltodextrin and dextrose/glucose is dextrose is individual glucose molecules while maltodextrin is “strings” of glucose molecules (strung together like beads on a string) and that is the difference in different grades of maltodextrin - the average “length” of the glucose strings - the shorter the strings, the higher the GI and more like glucose polymers which are typically maltodextrin of very short length. Protein factory and supplement direct both sell maltodextrin and glucose cheap and you know what you’re getting.
Looking at my dextrose bag it states that it is from corn sugar.“Dextrose also known as glucose) is a monosaccharide or simple sugar that is about 20% less sweet compared to can sugar. It is derived entierly from corn, is low-cost, and contains no fructose or lactose.
My maltodextrin states " Researchers have identified linked sugar compounds called glucose polymers in maltodextrin. Glucose polymers are metabolized at a slow, steady rate which can help sustain energy levels during endurance-oreinted athletic events.”
under ingredients
100% pure maltodextrin from corn.
So dextrose from corn sugar, malto just from corn.
