I searched for an answer to my question in the forums, however I am assuming it is too obscure, as I didn’t find an answer. Today marks day 30 without a cigarette for me. I decided to finally get serious about being healthy and getting bigger.
My plan was to be without smokes for 45 days (totally off the patch) before going on anything resembling a restrictive diet, as to not laps back into smoking from food cravings. I have been eating clean for the most part and have been working out 3-4 times per week over the last 30 days, not really expecting results, but to take my mind off of smoking and to feel better physically. (The real bitch of quitting is how sick with flu-like symptoms you get after you quit). Anyway on to my question.
I was recently in one of those idiotic (read: overpriced) supplement chain stores (the name rhymes with GNC). I was told that before beginning any type of workout routine, supplementation or even a diet, that I should go thorough a detox program first (which he just happened to have on hand).
I am curious to know if there is any truth to this or he was just blowing smoke. It does make sense to some degree as to flush out all of the toxins smoking puts into your body and make the body work better as a whole, thus creating better results from dieting, lifting, etc. However my suspicion is he was just trying to sell me something else I don’t need. Any thoughts would be welcomed and appreciated.
I’m sure there is a spiff on selling detox programs at that store or the entire chain. Otherwise, who really wants to talk colons?
The only toxins remaining in your body from smoking are the tars in your lungs and any nicotine in your bloodstream from the patch. The nicotine from smoking left your body after about 72 hours of not smoking. The damage you have done to your body will mostly reverse itself over time. Depending on how long you smoked, your heart function will return to normal within a few years.
As far as I am aware, a detox program does not rinse the tars out of your lungs, only time will clear them.
Cleansing does in fact make sense, and is a good idea every 6 months or year. However, the benefits of it have nothing to do with smoking cessation.
Your are already detoxing simply by quitting smoking.
Tomatoes are supposedly good for rebuilding lung tissue. The lycopene in them does something positive. Over load on greens for
Work on stretching your ribcage so you can breathe more deeply as well. The lungs will have lost some of their stretchiness so that and consciously practicing deep breathing will help get air (if not oxygen)capacity back.
Cleansing is not a requirement before starting a workout routine.
It’s primarily for health purposes. You will only hear opinions on how it makes you feel in relation to energy, digestion, outward appearance and overall happiness. Anything else hasn’t been accurately studied for public review.
Certian authors like Kevin Trudeau say they have been studied but pharmarcuticals conspired to keep the facts from the public. However, there are no facts that you will find that say things like it helps you live a longer life or higher quality of life.
If you maintain a fairly healthy diet, and do cardio your body will tend to clear most of its toxins. If 6 months from now you are deloading from a routine, and feel sluggish like you need to hit a new healthy high, you can try a detox, fast, or whatever.
nothing against cleanses , but the FIRST steps to getting healthier are quitting the smokes , gettin’ ones ass off the couch , and controlling what one puts in his mouth .
no point in cleansing if any of those three are un-controled .
but what do I know …I popped for the damned Gold Card !?
I was there looking for a straight-up Tribulus product ; not a trib/tongkat blend ;not a Trib/HGW blend ; or a Macca blend ; or any product consisting of anything other than fucking Bulgarian Trib…period .so where does the guy direct my attention ? to the 60 dollar bottle of a six-part blend .
kinda ticks me off
the time before that I asked what Tongkat products they carried…"um , whats THAT " ? Christ lady…thats like Johnny-fuckin- Appleseed not knowing whats in his god-damned bag !!!
Last I was in a GNC I asked Them if they had TRIBEX. He said they were out, but they had some “Tbomb” I said no. Went throught the rest of my list and they didn’t have any of what I wanted. Before I left the guy told me that he had never had someone come in already knowing what they wanted, but that usually they come in looking for him to sell them something.
