Destroyed My Body Lifting in High School

I fell in lovewith lifting my second year of high school. Biceps EVERY OTHER DAY!

I started lifting heavy weights my final year of high school when i was 18.

BB bench: 315x4
BB deadlift: 315x16
BB squat: 405x6

I weighed 186 pounds and ate 6,500 calories a day minimum. My diet looked look this:

7:00 AM - whole eggs, 3 egg whites, 2 scoops of BSN syntha-6 chocolate, 10-15 tables spoons heavy whipping cream, 2 table spoons olive oil, big ass scoop of peanut butter

9:00 am - Clif builder’s bar or 2 handful of almonds (experienced massive gains w/ almonds. stopped taking clif bars)

11:00 am - 100% whole wheat bread w/ 3-4 med slices of turkey breast along w/ 2 slices of swiss cheese. pint of milk as well

1:00 pm - same meal as above except no cheese snack qq

3:00 pm - tuna can in water

5:00 pm - full chicken breast

6:00 pm - gym until 8-9pm

post workout - BSN syntha 6, 2 scoops for my shake w/ skim milk

9-9:30pm - dinner; either chicken & potatoes, 2 porter steak/t-bone steak, salmon w/ rice, spaghetti w/ lots of ground beef

11:00pm - cottage cheese

11:01 - sleep

i used this diet to get sw0le. I ended up injuring everything in my body… and not traumatically from weight lifting, but gradually i believe over time…

I posted here because these are the hard core forums for lifters. i’ve always inspired to take my training to the net level, but my current health condition keeps hindering my progression.

I get pain in these areas…

left index finger ( area that connect finger to palm)
the web between thumb and left index finger (definite weakness in my grip strength)

close to my elbow ( the muscle that flexes when you grip your hand together hard and slowly w/ tension bring it towards the ground)

bicep & front part of shoulder close to bicep tendon

pain in rhomboids/trapezius/neck

feel like i lost feeling in my left ankle when i try to do a calf raise…
I also feel like my hip is messed up, or taller than another one. i feel awkward walking…

i’ve been trying to do my own research… i’m always stretching… 2 sets per stretch 15 second holds…

i do rotator cuff exercises before my shoulder/pec/tri days

i always warm up for my own safety of course!

if anyone has experienced something as retarded as i have please post… i feel alone and helpless…

my routine was this:

sunday: hamstrings, calves, quads, and my booty
monday: chest tri
tue: back bi (never did biceps… body was always too tired)
wed: be a slob and eat all day (if i felt like a boss would go do another leg day)
thurs: front/lat/rear delts, traps
fri: bi, tri
sat: fat slob n eat

I have a hard time sitting in front of a computer and typing… holding a book and reading… holding my girl friends hand for long walks in the city of chicago… i feel like a cripple crapple ):

please point me in the right direction… i’m not asking for sympathy, just some guidance from the people that inspire me.

Thank you for reading, all comments & suggestions are much appreciated!

Have you tried taking time off from lifting to heal?

If you have no pain when you are lifting and can progress on the weights, I wouldn’t worry about it. Sounds like a lot of nagging, but totally normal pains. If you want to feel better, deep tissue massage should help.

Yeah I took 18 months off. 4-5 of the months was doing physical therapy. I can progress on my weights, I feel weakness in my left arm though and I’m positive I’m not able to keep up with my right arm. In high school my left arm was a little weaker but barely noticeable. I was able to keep up the intensity for both sides. I read an article on active release therapy on this forum, gve them a call and am being sent a brochure. What do you guys think about active release therapy?

Kind of reminded of myself with this post, I can’t say this will help you but when I eliminated gluten and dairy a lot of my own similiar pains went away and keeping fish oil constant in my diet. Maybe that will be enough to help you out considering I was just about ready to see a chiro myself and never had to after that!

what direction are you headed, BBing, PL ing, so on, figure out your direction, than find someone expireanced to lift with or teach you, even if you have to pay a good trainer ( if you can find one) for a while. I shutter when i watch some kids do lifts in my gym, and they all think they know what their doing, if your reading this and think thats not the problem, I know how to perform all the exercises properly, than that is the problem, because after 20yrs of training, I’m still learning. Keep an open mind, goodluck

@KcThrows

i’ll definitely give this a shot… I read that too much dairy or protein contributes to osteoporosis? correct me if i’m wrong I have no idea… anyways thank you for the suggestion, i’ll definitely try and take a month off dairy… and is gluten in a lot of foods? i see all these labels popping up saying “gluten free” never knew about gluten products. i’ll read more into it, thanks!

@AnytimeJake
personally, i love both sports… but I want the physique of a bodybuilder. I don’t like doing 1RM because I have always been scared to hurt myself like all the older dudes tell you at the gym. thanks for the insightful post. This bodybuilder’s daughter works at my gym, I will ask her if her dad can show me the ropes and introduce me to the “next level”. I appreciate all the feedback guys

most painful lift for me is arnold presses… so much stress on the tendon it feels like it’s going to pop ):

This might be your solution(gluten).
If not try eliminating dairies for 3 weeks, slowly adding back to find your tolerance level.
You are the problem and that is good news. You are the solution.
Persistant problems are likely coming from persistant mistakes.
Avoid them voila !
In this situation i would eat lots a fresh/steamed veggies they are alkaline and conter balance the acids wich generate pain.
The chances are 98% foods are problematics and also your solution. Lentils are good proteins. Search alkaline foods, a few fruits in season.
Within 3 weeks improvements should be obvious. It might take months but you have no other choice. I have nothing against ART but it will get expensive if you keep doing mistakes(eating what generates pain for you).
Nettle is a plant you can buy(dried) and daily drink a tea made from it(any herborist has that).
Any librairy has books about foods intolerances.
Wish you well !
