Derailed - Setting a New Course!

Thanks Nadia and N - I’m planning on another PR next week!

So last night I had the worst game of dodgeball. I was a big ball of frustrated anger on the court. Not good… We ended up with a tie, but it was against a team we should have beat. The ball just wasn’t bouncing our way. Next week will be better.

So far I’m failing at my “not being so hard on myself” goal - but there is still chance for improvement.

Now that that’s of my chest…
I’ve still got an excess of frustrated energy this morning so tonight I will SMASH the weights!

SMASH!!

I took video, but I need to find my USB cable for my camera…

Feel awesome after that. It’s been some a while since I’ve been able to really devote my evening to lifting.
Now time to kick my feet up, drink my PWO protein shake and play some Dragon Age.

squatting is feeling better every week and I think I’m starting to look forward to it.

I so hope I can say the same thing one day.

Glad you had a good training session. What is a floor press?

Looking forward to the vid! Will check back later.

Video time
Bench Press - didn’t quite get that third rep all the way down. But the fourth rep sure came all the way down.

Floor Press - Nothing special, just repping away.

Last night - deadlift

Deadlift
Warm-ups

Working

Two weeks ago I only managed to pull 180 for 1 rep, so things are improving.

Ab wheel

Blast Strap Single Leg Hamstring Curl
10 x 2

And some stretching and rolling of course.

Deadlifts - please don’t mind my color coordinated bf in the background. lol.

First of all, I love your choice of training music.

I am very jealous of your power cage. It had never occurred to me how useful that would be for bench press! Nice work on your deads. Moving up that many reps in such a short time is a good sign that your strength is improving.

Yes, great progress there on the deadlift. How much were you bench pressing in the first vid?

Yeah videos! Unfortunately, I have no form tips for you as that is not one of my strengths. But very nice progress on those deads! And you look so incredibly young and pretty.

a hot couple you make~

Bench - on the lift you missed you actually looked away from the focus spot and at your bar. Try to keep your focus point at all times. Also to make sure I was doing proper depth I started touching my chest lightly with the bar. No cheating possible then.

Deads - I’d say drop a little lower to grab the bar and really use your legs.

But I’m just a crazy amateur. you can disregard my comments. Or maybe someone can say I’m all wrong.

I have rack envy

Kimba - As long as it is upbeat it’s usually a good song for me to lift too. Hence the Lagy Gaga / NOFX combo I had in there. Gotta keep it interesting!

Cal - I was pressing 120 in the first vid.

Nadia - Thanks. The progress does feel good. I feel much better about my deads this week compared with last week when I had that flu bug trying to get me.

N - Yeah, upon looking at the video again I totally lost my focus and my tightness followed quickly. I think I was focusing on the bar coming right down to my chest so I was staring at it. I use my perhipheral for the rest of the reps. I’m certainly going to add that to my list of cues.

I’ll try getting a little lower on my deads too - seems like a valid point. Thanks for the tips.

They play very mainstream, chart music at my gym. The main gym (machines, some dumbells, cardio crap…which I use mostly for stretching at the end) has videos. The small free weights room plays a god awful radio station which is mostly R&B, which is totally inappropriate for lifting. I need something more upbeat as you say - dance music is fine, or rock. Gaga does tend to get played a lot by the radio station, which I don’t mind so much, but most of what’s played is utter crap. I need an iPod I suppose, but I’ve never used any kind of personal stereo and I think that’s the reason I can still hear very high frequencies.

Nice vids! Thanks for sharing  A rack is my next big investment, I am uber jealous!!

mmmm, love your cage

was that part of all the gym stuff you bought?

training looks great…I’d go with N. and also say to get your hips down a little more on the dl’s…then again, who the heck knows anymore?! lol
your core/back looked tight anyway.

Cal - Yeah I agree - can’t lift to R&B. I can’t really listen to it regardless lol! Too boring for me. Especially if it is overly auto-tuned.

Coyote - Yeah the cage was a wonderful investment. I do all my main lifts in it so it really gets used alot. So it was certainly worth the money. Events just woked out perfectly on that purchase.

Mim - yeah the cage came with all that gym gear I bought. I happy my core and back looked tight. That’s my #1 concern. I don’t need any back injuries.

Never tried lifting 90 lbs before. Woo hoo! Tried hard for 4, but I just couldn’t will the bar up.

Stretching.

Figured I video all of my main lifts this week.

You made the 90lbs look easy! My best lift is 88lbs (we use kilos here, so 40kg is what I’m lifting) but I can only do that once. At the moment, anyway… Nice work.

3x for your first go at 90 is awesome. Congrats.
