Derailed - Setting a New Course!

ROCK ON wit yo’ bad self! :stuck_out_tongue:

nice vids!

i seriously didn’t know what you meant by floor-press. but i see - like a bench press only from the floor. obvious once you know.

lol at the color co-ordination.

go canada!
lol, well done LS  ever tried pushpressing your lasr rep just to cheat it up a little?

Thanks everyone!

N - The dodgeball team I went to Vegas with bought me that flag so I could wave it from the stands. The gym seemed like a great place to put it up. Maybe I’ll have to try that push press next go around. I don’t see how it could hurt.

I got my MRI done on Monday and I go to see my doc to get results next week. I’m pretty anxious about it - the reults will dictate how my next year will go. If I do have to go the surgery route, I’ll be pumping up the leg training to get them as strong as possible before hand. I’ll just have to wait and see. Damned waiting…

I skipped my squat workout on Monday in favour of Valentine’s festivities. I had a wonderful dinner cooked for me when I got back from my MRI. Every year we bake cupcakes and decorate them with candy hearts and such.

Last night was an in-and-out kinda night after karate.

Dodgeball tonight.

I hope you get good news on that MRI. Sorry you have to wait for the results.

Stopping by to say hello. Hope you don’t need surgery. When do you get your MRI results?

How nice to have dinner waiting for you on V-Day after your MRI.

Great training (especially that OHP PR!) and I hope you get nothing but awesome news from the MRI <3

Thanks for the well wishes ladies!
Fortunately I have lots of parties and gatherings this weekend to keep my mind off of waiting.

Last night I really didn’t feel like teaching karate, but I went anyway and ended up having a blast with the kids. That just turned my day right around.

After shoveling the snow when I got home I threw 35lbs in my pack, put my snowgear on and went for a little moonlit ruck - inspired by all you people rucking out there!

I ended up doing 3 km in 30 min. I found it quite refreshing even if it was a pretty chilly evening. I’m feeling it in my hips today. There will certainly be more rucking in my future.

Then…

Ooh a moonlit ruck, how pleasant.
You deserve that deload with that intense benching and pulling, enjoy.

Well I got my MRI results back today…
Not good…
I’ll be hopping back on the rehab train.

Turns out I have a complete ACL tear requiring surgery.

gaaahhhhh… misdiagnosed twice. Third time’s a charm I guess. But at least I know that there is something wrong. My doctor said that my quad and hamstring strength are making up for some of the stability that is lost from the torn ligament. That’s part of the reason why the instability isn’t so severe.

Anyway, it’ll be a few months before I go to see the ortho. My doc is trying to get me in to see one who specifically deals with athletes. So far he’s got me an appointment at the best PT place in the city for a consult in a couple of weeks.

So in the upcoming months I’ll be focusing alot on lower body strength. I want to make my legs as strong as possible before surgery.

Even though the results suck, I feel like I have a very intense focus now.

Deads and squats here I come!

Babe, I am really sorry to hear that the MRI showed not good. :frowning: But if its torn, its torn and its not gonna fix itself. Now you can focus intensely on healing that which is actually wrong with you, rather than spinning your wheels and going nowhere. This in itself is a positive.

Just look at Snapper – surgically repaired and right back it better than ever! That will be you before you even know it.

Sorry to here about your ACL. At least you finally know what it is and it can be repaired. And at least you will go into surgery strong and be able to make a “better than ever” comeback too.

Last stand: Sorry about the MRI results. My husband has had his ACL done twice now. He’s still squatting heavy, DLing and hitting PRs. It’s a big bump in the road, but nothing you can’t overcome–especially with the kick ass positive attitude that you have.

L.S - you have the right state of mind for the challenge.

Looks like your quad/ham strength is a positive and a negative. It’s great that they’re that strong, but it kinda prevented you knowing about a pretty big thing.

Your doctor is great for looking into a PT for athletes, you’ll be on your feet after the surgery in no time

Thanks ladies!

I’m certainly going to tackle this problem head on. I’m not looking forward to surgery, but at least I’ll be going in with my body as strong as possible.

My biggest disappointment in this whole situation I think is with my PT. I was complaining of instability and looking for an explanation, but I never really got anything. I kept going back for treatment with the same problems and still no answers. So I went back to my childhood doctor who immediately requisitioned an MRI.

It is good to know now what is wrong and what I need to avoid. I’m just lucky I didn’t do any further damage.

The timing of this is okay because the tendonitis in my elbow is at a point where I have to stop and take care of it. So upper body is out for now. I don’t want this to become chronic.

I’ve been mulling about the idea of training legs 3 times a week alternating between squats and deadlifts and further alternating between low volume and high volume. It is going to be months before I see an ortho, so I have some time to work with. Year of the legs right?

Last night - rucking in the bitter cold (-28 C woooo!)

3 km in 36 min *Edit: 35 lb pack

I found that I can’t really trust my GPS for measuring distances sometimes. So I used map my run. This ruck was 3 km, and all my previous rucks were 2.5 km.

That is a good attitude you’ve got going on! You are right to be disappointed in your medical folks. If anything, my minor knee complaints got me sent to an MRI almost TOO soon. I’m not complaining, mind you but this is in stark contrast to what happened to you.

Is rucking running with a loaded backpack, or walking with a load?

Kimba - When I ruck I try to keep a pretty fast walking pace. I have been loading up with a 35lb plate in my pack. I’m sure there are people out there who run with a load, but I find it pretty jarring with the weight in a backpack. It might be a bit different with a weighted vest where the weights are more evenly distributed front to back.

Plus our neighbourhood has some very treacherous sections of sidewalk this winter that would be more suited to skates than boots. Ice is not very friendly to an ACL-less knee, so I have to be cautious and look where I step. I kinda just shuffle over those sections.
