Love the hair AND the training ![]()
Ha slow moment!
For some reason I thought you were using 85# DBs!
But 85# BB floor press is still brutal, sounds like a great way to murder the tris too.
I love that the dodgeball DOMS isn’t keeping you from training. Switch DL with bench, who cares, you’re doing something and that’s freaking commendable.
Thanks Coyote!
Nikki - I have a feeling that I am going to have to be rather flexible for the next couple of months. I’m going to have to get my lifting in whenever I can.

I’m starting to get my confidence back on the court. The instability that bothers me during karate is non-existent in dodgeball. Mostly because my pivot leg is my good leg in dodgeball whereas in karate I need to pivot with both.
I have talked to another doctor about the lingering instability. He wants me to get an MRI to assure that I was not misdiagnosed in the first place. I’m not too happy about this, but I’ll just have to wait and see what shows up. In the mean time I can still play dodgeball and lift, but I have to keep backing off of the karate. Which works for me because I just don’t have the time to do it all!
Catch up time!
I learned a few things this week:
- Farmers walks plus dodgeball the next day = a very sore elbow and compromised grip
- Involuntary fasting for blood work makes me grumpy especially when I have to do it twice because of a screw up.
- My new set of weights feels heavier than the old set
- My lats are not very symmetrical
Anyway on to training!

We got another 6 inches of snow this weekend, so there was a good amount of shoveling in there too.
Hate fasting for bloodwork. makes not fainting impossible…
lingering instability from what??
hope all is well…
N - Fortunately I don’t have the fainting problem, but then again I didn’t have too much blood drawn.
MiM - It is instability from my knee dislocation. Originally I was told that there was no ligamnet damage, but this other doctor I have been talking to is a little suspicious of that - hence the MRI. I just wish the first doctor I saw whould have told me to get an MRI right away, but there’s not much I can change about that…
With the activities I am doing now, 95% of the time it doesn’t bother me, but I need to know what is causing that 5%.
Eh, you might have to be flexible with training but you seem to do be doing a good job with juggling everything.
I don’t like fasting for any reason lol
Shoveling is the least fun aerobic activity that I currently can think of. You have my sympathy.
Love the purple! I sure wish I had the cojones to do creative hair color as a youngster. Its impossible now, but I’ll enjoy it vicariously.
There’s something in the water–BW or Bw+ benches abound at PW this weekend. COme on you’re up next! Hope the knee MRI comes up clear. That would suck to have a missed diagnosis.
Nadia - I saw all of those BW(+) benches this weekend! I know I’m so close, but I think I’m going to do another cycle or two of 5/3/1 before I test my 1RM again.
Monday training:
Moved another 3 inches of snow - should be the last of it for this week anyway

That was all I had time for because I needed to go sub in for my Bf’s badminton team. His office is running a team this season and none of the girls could make it to play with him. Fortunately it was pretty rec as I hadn’t played since junior high and he’s never played aside from gym class. We lost our first match and won our second. I was pretty rusty, but had a good time in the end.
It was not nice on my elbow though - it is feeling really tendonitisy today. Just when I though it was getting better - bah! I think my body is telling me that it is time for a deload, so I might take that a little bit early. I’m going to go pick up one of those tennis elbow straps for my game tomorrow. We’ll see how it feels come Friday when I have my DL day planned.
I got my MRI date too and it was a lot sooner then I expected. Valentine’s Day!
Aww an MRI on Valentine’s? ;(
Nikki - at least it is in the afternoon so it shouldn’t interfere with any evening plans. I’ve never been a big Valentine’s Day person anyway and I was more excited that I got the appt in less than a month because I’m not a high pritority patient.
Played the first dodgeball game of the winter season last night. It felt pretty good. We mercied our opponents then played fun games for about 15-20 min. Our league games are only an hour so they feel so short compared with our 2-3 hour preseason games. I forgot my HRM so no stats this time.
My elbow isn’t feeling quite as tendonitisy today and seeing as karate is cancelled, I might squeeze in my bench workout I missed last night.
Glad that elbow is feeling better. I used to love dodge ball as a kid, back when I was nimble and quick. Now, damn, I would be scared. YOu need to post some videos of your games. I totally want to watch. Have you posted videos–maybe I missed them?
Go into a handstand using the wall for support
hahaha. yeah, when nobody else is in the gym, i’ll try it.
i love short hair, but don’t have the face shape for it. unfortunately, i had to learn that the hard way.
i’d like to able to do rollouts from my feet, too, but i think it will take some work before i’m ready for them from my knees, even. have some trouble feeling the tension in my abs rather than spinal erectors. need to figure out how to hold myself a bit better, i think.
Nadia - I have posted a couple of vids, but they weren’t embedded so they were probably easy to miss.
Here’s my Vimeo page with all of the dodgeball videos I have done - plus a couple of others.
I’m in most of them except for Fun & Friendly - Heart, Last Stand, and Chaotic Balls - Battle of Alberta
My favourites are
Alexus - I tried from my feet last night and crashed and it was my back that felt weak. Not quite ready yet I guess.
After sitting on my butt playing video games until 9pm I decided to hit the gym. This is why I love my basement gym.
Upper body push movements felt fine, but the pulling movements strained my elbow, so I left those for another day.

No Balls, love it!

Yes, I loved the vids too! I’ve vaguely heard of dodgeball (US TV shows) but no other exposure to it. Holy crap! What does one of those things weigh? Is the aim to smash people or what?
You will get one soon, I’m sure ![]()
Alexus - I have no idea how much a dodgeball weighs, but we do use the traditional rubber schoolyard ball.
The league tested foam balls with us and they were quite quickly rejected.
The goal of the game is to hit out all of the players on the opposite team - so yes the aim is to smash people. I have received some crazy bruises over the years! Once the ball hits the ground it is dead, so you can’t bounce the ball to hit someone. If you catch your opponent’s throw, they are out and you can get one of your players back on the court.
Because we play in a recreational league, there are no headshots allowed. That is if you are standing and someone hits your head. If you’re crouching, your head is fair game - though no one really likes to hit others in the face. Higher throws tend to be easier to catch than low throws too.
On Saturday I finally got out snowshoing - 1 hour 4.5 km. My bf and I found a nice little winding creek through the city that we followed. It was pretty flat except for the steep bank we went up. Once we got in 15 mins or so it was like we left the city entirely. It was such beautiful day and a beautiful place for a hike! Good deload activity!
