Demigod before 35 (Aldebaran)

I can’t comment on any controversies surrounding him, but my main issue is how dogmatic he gets about stuff. I believe he has some type of physical therapy background, so I can see why he would be. However, he still needs to ease up on some points (like the upright rows thing).

My aunt, who’s a personal trainer working with mostly older clients, really likes his stuff. Her and I have gotten into it a couple times over some of his content. Admittedly, I’m the one who introduced her to him back in my youth. I since regret it.

Indeed, this video for instance, tells you what’s up. He used to do some horrible Joel Seedman bullshit.

But indeed he also gives pretty good advice. The moral of the story is always the same, take everything with a grain of salt.

I remember last summer on here I was advised this and I tried it. I tried some at my school again. It really never clicked. Probably my acromion lenght is shit or something. Lateral raises it is for me

Damn, 11:28 was for me. This guy shines a new light on Jeff.

I don’t do high pulls for delts, I do them for my traps. My shoulders are chewed up from multiple subluxations and a couple surgeries. I don’t need an upright row for my delts, but I do enjoy the power of a snatch grip high pull.

Haven’t finished the video but I made it half way. The poor advice given out by AthleanX is unfortunate and it can’t be ignored; however, I don’t understand everyone’s compulsion for doing these videos. These internet gurus need to spend less time trashing each other for no reason. I couldn’t help but notice that AthleanX had 10.6 million followers and that guy had 17,500.

The childish insults at the beginning really take away from any meaningful message for me.

Just to clarify, I’m specifically referring to a non-explosive, controlled movement, preferably with constant tension. I would classify the wide-grip upright row and high pull as completely different exercises.

High pulls are absolutely a trap exercise. WGURs are a delt exercise.

I love High Pulls as well, they are great for power! This lift strangely doesn’t bother my shoulders. But even the Dufin rows or something, there is always a very slight weird bothering feeling.

Yes I feel you, I tend to shy away from those who spread negativity nowadays. But you know, people love drama, it makes them gain followers at a quick pace

26/05 - Odysseus - Pull - Week 1

A. Machine Rows 2 x 10 with 100 kgs

B. Deadlift 20 x 3 with 140 kgs

C. Pull-ups 15,12

D. Straight-Arms Pulldowns 3 x 12 with 35 kgs

E. Smith-Machine Crunches 3 x max with 40 kgs

F. Rope Hammer Curl 1,5 reps 2 x 10 with 30 kgs

G. DB Curls 2 x 7 with 18,16 kgs

Rows felt a bit hard today.

The deadlift was fine actually. I did like half of them without the belt, and I think the first 10 sets in less than 9 mins, then I took a bit more time, I didn’t see the point in doing more sets (meaning it woiuld produce too much fatigue).

Legs and pretty much the whole body was quite sore today. I could feel a bit my lower back after the 20 sets as well, and the hands took a pummeling lol

The rest of the session is just easy stuff

I tried your smith crunches @Frank_C and they felt good! Not too much abs action (I felt), but they certainly work the serratus a good deal as well and I definitely don’t say no to a stronger serratus (meaning stronger, more stable shoudlers)

20 sets?! Geez. Got some Russian bear training going on over here.

I have 20 mins to do as much good sets of 3 reps with 80% as I can.

Percentage is a bit lwoer on the deadlift though because last time (probably was too drained mentally and CNS-wise) I didn’t even muster 190kgs, and it’s just 2 days after the squat, and anyway I round a bit too much my upper back on my max to my liking

I’ve found them hit and miss. The first few times I did them, they were great. If I use too much weight then it just doesn’t feel right. And I do like that I can work the serratus because that was a big priority during my shoulder rehab.

That sounds pretty cool and tough! Kinda crossfit-esque. I could see this being viable for something like strongman.

Yes Martins Licis uses this set up for his skill work! We’ll see if I get stronger

Need to do @kdjohn rows

They are like fucking trapezium TNT

Which ones are these?

27/05 - Odysseus - Push 2 - Week 1

A. Hammer DB Reverse Flyes 2 x 20 with 6 kgs

B. Overhead Press 20 x 3 with 60 kgs

C. Incline DB Bench 3 x 10 with 30 kgs

D. Squeeze Press 2 x 10 with 22 kgs

E. Stretch Push-ups 2 x max

F. Rope Pushdown Double Contraction 2 x 10

G. Pin Press 2 x 8 with 90 kgs

So, good session. It was tough! These overhead rpess were really tough, especially as I was doing a clean before evry time. My shoulder are soooore

The chest work was very enjoyable, only 1 min rest between the exercises, it gave a crazy pump and a nice feeling

2 nd time in 3 days people think I’m a coach at the gym and I’v been asked if I take gear ahah so I guess I’m doing it right!

Did some pics today, a bit disappointed by them, but I am not disappointed about how I look and feel in ym day to day life ahah

Went out today and drnak 3 beers and ate some chocolate. It felt so good seeing so much people! Feeling so lively and I wanted to party.

But it shall wait. I’m gonna resume the diet now, to lose a little more fat, and to be able to sustain the inevitable indulgences this summer ahah

Gonna go to bed earlier also, these last 3 days I didn’t and I think it’s why i’m not really happy with the look in the pics today. I was very tired, so much that I took a nap! And I really dislike this feeling

Anyway, starting monday it’s back to work 7/7 (monday I work from 8 AM to 10 PM :sob:) so i’m gonna live a bit like a monk and try not to cheat at all, I know how food gets more tempting when you’re tired as fuck from a crazy work day

How far are you away from these numbers ?

20 kgs away on the bench and dead, 25 on the squat

All those numbers would be very achievable with some specific training around the three big lefts, especially if you were prepared to add a little body weight. What is you actual plan to achieve this?

My plan is to wait until this autumn to gain a bit more weight and really chase it :joy:

In the meantime, improve as much as I can, mostly on technique and what holds me the most like bracing
