I’m concerned for our next generational families and children. With the degrading moral issues changing rapidly, I really wonder if we are becoming a nation of self destruct. Pornography has infiltrated our well being causing family breakups. Gay marriages and lifestyles are commonly accepted and our kids are battered with TV shows that portray this is a healthy and normal lifestyle. The music that our kids are listening to is degrading to females and often refers to the dark side and drug use. I can only see repercussions of this worsening our society.

I don’t see these things as a threat to family values simply because of these three principles: you either have morals or you don’t; you either have family values or your don’t; you’re either gay or not gay, with the exception of those who choose to play on both teams.
I think that if a married person spends a substantial amount of time on the Internet looking at porn, that is a symptom of a bad marriage rather than a cause - there is something about that person’s marriage that caused that person to lose interest in his or her spouse and turn to porn. Or the person is a sex addict. Either way, banning porn will not solve the underlying problem, and the problem would manifest itself in other ways. Take away this person’s porn, for instance, and he or she might try to have an affair or take his or her frustration out in the form of spousal abuse and/or child abuse.
I also don’t think that an attitude that being gay is “okay” will suddenly see hordes of men and women leaving their families to pursue a gay lifestyle. I certainly wouldn’t for the simple reason that I find sex with men disgusting.
I guess there’s the argument that if a person is unsure about their orientation, making gay marriages legal would cause that person to choose the gay lifestyle rather than a heterosexual one. The problem I have with this is that I take marriage and family seriously. If a person is truly unsure about their orientation, then that person has no business going into a marriage and starting a family because some day in the future, this person’s “uncertainty” may show up again. Then what - go through a divorce and break up a family. And how do you explain this to the kids - “Dad won’t be staying with us anymore because he has the hots for the pool boy.” I take a social Darwinist view on this issue - if a person thinks he or she might be gay, then let them sort it out early on before dragging a spouse and kids into the picture.

But the first thing that came to my mind was a lecture on morality coming from a guy who submitted nekkid pictures of himself. Not only that, but a lecture on the evils of homosexuality from a guy who submitted nekkid pictures of himself to a forum made up of a majority of men!

Sounds good in principle - unfortunately our so called moralistic society still tends to have issues with

Why, just the other day I was watching that Ed Sullivan fellow on the television and he had on this southern boy who was shaking his hips and the girls were screaming and crying and throwing themselves at him. What ever happened to good old fashioned morality, when you’d court a young lady for months before you asked if you could hold her hand? I find it ironic that those who are often on the moral high horse frequently participate in the same acts as they condemn. Whenever someone goes on an ethical rant, it always raises a flag, I often question their motives for doing so. Advice: If you wish to make a change in human behavior, do so in a subversive, quiet fashion, and please, by all means, put your money where your mouth is.

I guess people talked about exactly the same things in the Greek/Roman epochs when the decandence (orgies, homosexuality, etc.) were mentionned.
And Alexander the Great supposedly was homosexual. Did that stop him? No. Did the world survive him, however big his empire got? Yep.
And I won`t even start on both World Wars.
History proves that humanity has always bounced back from whatever challenge it met so far. Fuck the quality of life (short-term trend), I`m talking about grandscale, long-term, patterns (history and what stays after it).
Current state of the world, in my view, are worthless. There will always be a leader who will rise to put things back in their place when things DO go wrong. That includes (real) T-Men. And if not, natural selection, both human and natural, will do it.
As for the porn, gay, race, gambling, etc. appearance, consider it like children: if you prevent people from doing (non-criminal act) X or, or at least explore it, theyll still find ways to try it, anyway. Since theyll do it anyway, law or not, better let it be and let these interest groups migrate together to there respective niche. I am sure for each interest group, there will be an equal and opposite one somewhere, to keep the others in check.
Life on this planet displays a very good fortitude. Got a better reason to really make people worry?

WEAPON X: Morality, contrary to pot, drugs, fashions, cannot be exchanged for currency, cannot be bought, requires character development and (most of the time) long-time effort.
Since it is mostly personal/in your head thinker stuff, feeler people (it seems their breeding legions) specialized in living the present day only, feel their life through, have-fun, dont think, what-the-hell, lifestyle dont, by definition, have any incentives and prefer a much more real stimulant as drugs, fashions, ego-trips, porn, music, which feeds their I must feel needs far better.
In short, people take the currency they need. They need to feel far more than to think. And morality is far le$$ rewarded (organized religion asides). You cant cash in on it. But you can with vice`.
IMHO, with the acceleration of everything, the percentage of people succumbing to the short-term only view of life are getting bigger each year, if not only because long-term morality is not rewarded. And it`s not as fuuuuuunnnnnn.
Take Kid Rock. How much time did this guy take to transform into a celibrity, have tons of cash, get the Pambo (Pamela Anderson Bimbo), etc? Not very long. And would this guy be an example of morals and restraint? I guess not.
Morality is not rewarded that much. People will even pay you big time (hard-earned money) if you can be their drug. Technology allowed us to make visible all these lurking desires, both the good, the bad, and the ugly.
If willpower/discipline is put to test when stimulants are indeed there (easier access to drugs, porn, etc.), well, lets say this world, large scale, displays how much it has (or not) of it, in its progress…

We kinda have to have SOME limits.
I think incest should be perfectly legal, provided both persons are of age, and are consenting adults, and do not produce offspring. Sex with animals should not be legal, because it is not possible for the animal to provide evidential consent to the act (though you could easily argue that when it’s a human woman and a male animal). There’s a difference between what should be legal, and what you may or may not consider moral.
It’s a refuge of weak minds to simply say that our morality is ‘degrading,’ with the idea of using that to restrict personal liberties. Why is it that people get so upset by what other people choose to do with their lives? If your child is so impressionable (and you such a poor parent and role model) that they will become drug addicts because they saw one on TV… well, I hate to break it to you, but they would’ve been screwed up if TV had never been invented.

I was raised by a Roman Catholic family in which a couple sons smoked marijuana, one went to jail a couple times for different things, the daughter moved out of the house and in with a man who was separated from his wife (they later married), one son is gay. None of us killed anybody, none of us beat up anybody, those with children have good polite children. We all became decent adults with jobs and Significant Others and good values, because no matter what straying anyone did as a youth, our parents were (still are) decent people who were role models of decent behavior.
Point being: you cannot worry about what’s out there in society. Be a good role model for the people around you, especially to younger people, and they will make the future a decent place. Offer an alternative to what you consider indecent and immoral and hurtful, and let children choose what makes sense to them. If all children growing up chose self-destruction and dissipation over consideration and restraint, our society would have crumbled LONG ago.
Our parents worried about our morals, and we’ll worry about our children’s morals. Maybe things are going further down the slope, but I find it hard to believe that there is anything new under the sun.
As far as accepting homosexual behavior goes, I think the acceptance of homosexuals as human beings is important. If, like Iscariot pointed out, we keep condemning those who express homosexuality, then this will further homosexual teen suicide and divorces of closeted homosexuals who think that they should have gotten married to “fit in” to society.
I’ve been exposed to a lot of “sins” since a young age - some more than others - but I really don’t think it’s had an affect on my moral decisions (whether I made good or bad decisions).
What’s that quote by Milton (where are you, Cupcake?), that there’s “nothing weaker than an untested virtue”? While it would be easy to live in a society whose morals match your own, we never will, so we have to do the best we can.
While I may fear for others, I don’t fear for myself, and I expect those that I love not to either.

There is no porn on public TV. If you’re underage and are watching porno, your parents are responsible, not the American public. Man up to YOUR responsibility as a fucking parent.

The problem is of course, that humans are too damn good at survival. We are so good at survival that we can worry about things like morals. My dog just killed a baby bird that fell from its nest, he doesn’t worry about how immoral he is killing a bird, he’s just surviving.
We are so good are survival that we can be homosexual and still produce offspring. I don’t think it needs to be said that homosexual animals don’t survive too well.
I can guarantee you that we are the only species on Earth that is reducing its life expectancy because we produce of own, unhealthy food and can easily eat too much of it.
Our gene pool has virtually no natural selection, because any semi-intelligent human can and does survive and pass their genes down, no matter what physical or mental deficiencies we have.
Normally, when a predator species over-populates there numbers will die down because they will run out of prey. Humans are over-populated but our numbers will never significantly drop unless we create some sort of nuclear holocaust against ourselves, because we’re that damn good.
The moral of this story: Be happy that you are a human, because you’re part of a species that is so damn good at survival that we are our own biggest threat. Don’t worry about the gay couple you see holding hands at the bus stop and how this will affect your children, just do your best to respect nature and other humans, and congratulate the gay couple on ending up as humans and not elephants (because we all know how well homosexual elephants would do in the wild).
