Degrading Morality

“I’m concerned for our next generational families and children. With the degrading moral issues changing rapidly, I really wonder if we are becoming a nation of self destruct. Pornography has infiltrated our well being causing family breakups.”

Look at the societies where porn is easily available and compare then to those repressive societies like Pakistan, Iran, and others. Where are the women more valued for all of their abilities instead of as breeding stock? I rest my case there.

“Gay marriages and lifestyles are commonly accepted and our kids are battered with TV shows that portray this is a healthy and normal lifestyle.”

So? Look around buddy. Gays have been here forever, even in societies where they were killed if found out. Did sweeping it under the rug help anyone out? Maybe the tight assed narrow minded people that fear their own homosexual tendancies will be found out, but nobody else.

“The music that our kids are listening to is degrading to females and often refers to the dark side and drug use. I can only see repercussions of this worsening our society.”

The crime rate has been dropping for nearly 10 years. You really should look at facts instead of what seems to be true.

Oh, and people have been saying that each successive generation is going to hell in a handbasket because of wild music and provocative dances and clothes since well before the Romans owned most of the known world. We aren’t there yet and it’s been a couple thousand years. Maybe your version of nirvana is where everyone is like you but to all the people not like you that’s their hell. It takes a brave person to be accepting of other people and their differences. Buck up and try it sometime.

Eh, homosexual elephants would do just fine in the wild. They just wouldn’t have offspring. Homosexual animals are well documented.

Otherwise, fine post.

Pho -

“We are so good are survival that we can be homosexual and still produce offspring. I don’t think it needs to be said that homosexual animals don’t survive too well.”

Not true. They survive fine, they just don’t produce offspring. And since there is no evidence that homosexuality is passed on genetically, that trait isn’t weeded out by natural selection.

“I can guarantee you that we are the only species on Earth that is reducing its life expectancy because we produce of own, unhealthy food and can easily eat too much of it.”

But our average life expectancy goes up every year because of advances in medicine. So our survival skills are doing more good than harm (to us), overall. Yeah, we’d be doing even better if we weren’t idiots about what we put in our bodies.

"Our gene pool has virtually no natural selection, because any semi-intelligent human can and does survive and pass their genes down, no matter what physical or mental deficiencies we have. "

True, there is less natural selection now, but we’re developing methods of unnatural selection like genetic engineering. It’ll start with curing diseases and stuff, but it will go on from there.

“Normally, when a predator species over-populates there numbers will die down because they will run out of prey. Humans are over-populated but our numbers will never significantly drop unless we create some sort of nuclear holocaust against ourselves, because we’re that damn good.”

Which means that, technically, we aren’t overpopulated. We’ve just found ways to successfully increase our population. Sure, it means running roughshod over all other species on earth, but that’s nature’s way, I guess.

“Don’t worry about the gay couple you see holding hands at the bus stop and how this will affect your children, just do your best to respect nature and other humans, and congratulate the gay couple on ending up as humans and not elephants (because we all know how well homosexual elephants would do in the wild).”

Hear hear. Except for the gaylephants. They do just fine in the wild, since the other elephants really don’t mind the reduced competition and generally don’t gay-bash.

If your child is so impressionable (and you such a poor parent and role model) that they will become drug addicts because they saw one on TV… well, I hate to break it to you, but they would’ve been screwed up if TV had never been invented.

Nephorm - That was my point exactly. It’s the parents’ job to raise the kids and give them the skills to make good decisions.

Thanks for the kind comments DAN C, nephorm and misterdre.

I will admit that I have never heard of or seen an animal that is completely homosexual, I’ve seen males trying to have sex with other males but I have honestly never heard witnessed an animal that wouldn’t mate with the opposite sex. I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

However, I highly doubt the elephant ever made a concious choice to be a homosexual, he was just to weak and ugly to get any from the female. Or maybe the elephant was just born with some missing link in his brain that made him think he was a female. Obviously I’m just pulling these theories out of my ass, but you get the idea.

Humans however make a concious choice to become homosexual, because we are not driven by that same “must survive and reproduce as many times as possible” drive that most animals have. We lack the desire to survive and reproduce with many different women because it is frowned upon by other humans. We are so damn good at surviving that you get into trouble for trying produce more of your species.

Moral: If you were an elephant and couldn’t even get any from Gertrude the overweight truck-faced elephant, and all the other elephants were laughing at you and calling you names, you might resort to homosexuality.

I love the internet, you can have intelligent discussions about homosexual elephants without being ridiculed.

Good words all around, and I appreciate them.

I never made a choice to be homosexual. I can’t say I was born that way, because I really don’t know, but I know that when I was a kid I tried like hell to like girls because I didn’t want to be gay.

The struggles I went through because of it made me strong, but some don’t survive it. Everyone here made wonderful points and from hereon in I’d just be rehashing, but I just wanted to say that people don’t make a conscious choice to be gay or straight, and if the human race is ever in danger in my lifetime, I’m more than willing to bite the bullet and have sex with a chick to produce offspring.

But she would have to be really, really hot.

I don’t understand why people persecute gays. I’ve known people before knowing they are gay, and when I find out, it doesn’t change a thing. I mean geez, Khellendros just told us he was gay. Does that change anything? Hell no it doesn’t. He’s still the khellendros we all know and he’s still part of the t-nation.

I live in a giant gay area known as St. Louis. It has been known to have more gays that the notoriously gay San Francisco. I walk by at least 20 obviously gay people every day. I still say hello and talk to them as people, because that’s what they are.

There’s this black guy who walks around my neighborhood and a lot of downtown St. Louis daily. He’s known as St. Louis Bob. The guy is the epitome of a male who is overtly gay. He wears tutus, spandex, Cowboy Cheerleader boots, tosses a baton and blows a whistle. I’m not kidding either. I’ve talked to him, and you know what, he’s truly a great guy. He makes people laugh, but in this world where death is personified and glorified in some instances, St. Louis Bob is good for our area. Every time I see him I smile. He surely brightens up my day.

Sorry about the rant. I just can’t fucking stand homosexual persecution.

I agree JWright. Why does anyone care what anybody else does in bed? (I have a friend who lives in KC, MO and she says it’s pretty gay, too. Didn’t know about St. Louis.)

The gym I usually go to is in a downtown area and the membership is very diverse in pretty much every way it can be, but everyone seems to get along fine. I actually saw a couple guys holding hands there other day and no one broke into convulsions over it – although the day that two lesbians kissed on the workout floor, a couple guys nearly dropped dumbbells on themselves.

Some of the gay dudes are obviously big workout junkies, too.

Khellendros, you’ve probably been through some tough stuff. I’m glad you were able to talk about it some. I hope everybody treats you well here.

MISTERDRE:

But our average life expectancy goes up every year because of advances in medicine. So our survival skills are doing more good than harm (to us), overall. Yeah, we'd be doing even better if we weren't idiots about what we put in our bodies.

Yep. What about the morbidity factor or morbidity lifestyle? Yes, we live longer. Do we live better? I`m no actuary, but I doubt living longer means living better.

There was a science called biometrics, correct me if I am wrong, that studies the lifespan of organs. For example, the average normal heart will beat X bazillion times before failing. Same thing for joints. Etc.

Bottom line: even organs have eventual failure. There is a price to pay when you cheat nature out of its usual (natural) lifespan. Large scale, you just replace old mechanical problems by new, more complicated, cellular-level brain-wracking ones.

Start hijack
I, for one, am sure going to pull the plug early if I get diagnosed with a degenerative disease. Where is one going on anyway, for example on Alzheimer, when he starts to revert to childish/animal behavior? There comes a point where the human factor is not there anymore. Clinically, youre living. Humanly, youre dead. I`ll pull the plug before I get there.
end hijack

Things WRONG with the world today:

  1. Gay bashing
  2. Racism
  3. Hunger
  4. Tiranny
  5. Just added: Hipocrisy.

I personally have met a few people who were gay, and while I am not, I have to say they were some of the nicest people I’ve met - you know, the kind of people you KNOW you can count on. By saying gays are evil, you’re saying some of my friends are evil. Say that to my face and you’re walking away with a broken nose.

You’re right, there IS a problem with the world today - and you’re IT. The problem isnt that not everyone is a God fearing man who never watches porn, who only sings about good things, and who isnt gay…the problem is that some people insist on going around BASHING those different from them, carry out hate crimes against them, maybe even try to post naked pics of selves on the net, and THEN go around preaching righteouness and how th REST of the world is going evil. No, buddy, YOU are the problem, and you wanna know when we’ll stop seeing crimes, murders, discrimination, racism and more? When people like you with a fanatical edge stop going around.

Dan:

Centuries ago the average lifespan didnt exceed 50 yrs old. At age 40 you’d be considered an elder in some cultures.
Today the average lifespan is in the 80s, almost double. Do you get more problems in your 80s? Yes, but your quality of life is FAR FAR superior to that just a few centuries ago by age 50. Heck today at age 50 you probably have fewer health problems than you’d have at age 35 a few centuries ago.

Also, realize that medicine does keep you in better health when you reach age 80. Is it a pain in the ass taking all those medicines? Yes. Does it keep you functioning normally and sane? Yes (with few exceptions such as the Alzheimers patients).

Also, the lifespan of your living tissues, organs, joints, etc, can be expanded by taking proper care - a proper diet and fitness regime, healthy habits, advances in medicine and so forth make this possible.

Today the maximum human lifespan is considered to be 150.
Rapid advances in Medicine however, has scientists predicting that by year 2070, it’ll be possible to extend human life perpetually, barring other causes of death and secondary effects not predicted. 2070 is a conservative estimate according to them.
Thatll be a strong ethical issue if we do in fact get to that point, but it shows exactly how fast we are advancing in terms of extending our average lifespan.

Personally, I think we better start growing grass and cows on Mars soon, lol. In the last few centuries world population has been increasing exponentially. Heck, look at the US population today, and what it was 2 or 3 centuries ago. If we’d been crammed in Europe or Asia, we’d be packed real tight, and theres no other continents to move to.

Actually, I’d say those acts are less tolerated today than at any time in history. In fact, the morality these days is right up there with all-time levels as well.

I think you need to read more.

DIESEL23: Point taken. I beg to differ on a couple of points on the projections side.

When I look at AIDS, cancer, and similar problems, that have been discussed for at least 20 years, unless somebody does one heck of a breakthrough and/or we see geometric progression in scientific studies (and funding and research), my bet is that the next twenty years will be more similar to the twenty previous (1980-2000) ones in terms of expectations for current major health challenges (AIDS, autoimmune diseases, cancer, Alzheimer, Lupus, Chronic Fatigue, Diabetes, etc.).

Sure, it is nice to dream of the potential. It helps to sell the concept, like any hope based belief system. If I take my hunch on histroy, human structures in place, like lobbies, industries and vested interests, will set up the rules of the game in their favor, and most probably slow down the progress revolutions. It will not stop it. Only that many will get rich in the delaying process.

Well, fuck it, let`s make the most out of what we have right now.

Dan that is very true and very unfortunate: drugs which could save lives are kept very expensive and unavailable to those who need it because their creators continuously delay the process which allows other companies to market the same product at cheaper rates - thus creating competition and bringing prices to affordable levels for those who need it. Instead the companies who hold a patent for an exclusive product delay this process which allows competitors to market the same prodcut for years and years - think of how manyh people DESPERATELY need their drug to survive, and their pain. But alas, even though the company’s patent has expired their CEOs CHOOSE to DRAG the process for many years in order to cash in as much profit as they possibly can. Just because they make a product which could save your life doesnt mean your their priority. Money is - it speaks volumes louder than an individual atrophying in a hospital bed in pain who cant lead a normal life.

Major hijack: Here’s an idea to make drugs cheaper. Shorten the length of the patent period. Once it’s over anyone can make the drug generically but they owe the developer a royalty on a portion of their profits. That way the original R&D costs get reimbursed and the drugs get to more people for less money.

Average lifespan in the old days is misleading. Infant mortality was factored in and if you look at old cemetaries you see a lot of kids and teens in there. If a good portion of the people are croaking young from typhoid, scarlet fever, etc. it shifts the average lifespan even though quite a few people are living to a ripe old age.

A guy I know noticed something while doing genealogical research, a lot of the people that made it to adulthood were living to age 60-80 even 150 years ago. Hell, Henry VIII lived to be 56 and he was known for being a fat ass.

The morality of the “good old days” left a lot to be desired if you were a kid or a woman since they were pretty much considered property. Oh, you could be accused, convicted, and executed for “thinking bad thoughts” too. Yep, things really are going downhill fast…yeah, right.

It would be interesting to see if somebody did a “post” lit search to see who has bashed FAT people in the past. I remember a few posts we all got our rocks off busting on that one website, NIFM or something like that if I believe.

Vain

I’m concerned that you may have reproduced. A grown man, with (I guess) computer skills, but such a poor command of the language that he can’t put together a coherent sentence should have been nuetered. How do expect anyone to take you seriously? Ever heard of tenses? Do you even know what all the words you use mean?

NAAFA

Gay/Lesbian is a lifestyle. FAT is not a lifestyle. You can easily change your diet and exercise habits and lose weight. You can’t, however, become straight from diet or exercise. If someone is fat and has a condition such as hypothyroidism, then I feel bad for them and will understand how hard it is to become/stay slim. On the other hand, if you eat McDonald’s all the time, sit on your butt daily and bitch about why you aren’t getting slim, then I’m not about to listen to your bitching. If you’re fat and not doing anything about it, then you deserve to be fat.

How’s this for a great swerve to crash this topic back on course?

My partner is fat. I am still on the fat side too, but I’m losing weight. I was always bigger than him, now I weigh less. I thought I could never change, that being fat was in my genes, but honestly, eating shitty food and not exercising isn’t a matter of genetics. I wish my partner would just stop being a fucking idiot, lay off the beer and junk food, and turn into the wrecking machine I know he could become.

And thanks for the welcome.
