DeFranco video review

Upon receiving the free video from Joe DeFranco, I was excited. I e-mailed him a question, and he wrote back and asked after I viewed the video to write an unbiased review of it on this forum. I thought, hey this guy just gave me a free video, this is the least I could do. I?m going to basically write the con?s and pro?s, then give my feeling on the video. My background is that I?m a baseball player. I have never played competitive football before, but helped train some football players at my school.

Cons
The only problem that I have about this video, and it is a very small problem, is there was a couple of times where the video went out of focus, but quickly came back in focus.

Pros
This video goes into great detail on all of the combine tests. Joe DeFranco, through his explanations, makes every test easy to understand. He explains it at a pace that you can write the information down quickly and efficiently. After each test he explained, he got one of his shredded athletes to perform the test at regular speed to see how it?s done. Another great aspect of this video is Joe?s demeanor, he knows for a fact that his methods work, it made me feel it is the only way to prepare. There are many more great qualities to this video, but I feel you have to watch it, because if I keep writing I will give the whole video away, and I don?t think Mr. DeFranco will like that too much.

I will say this, I thought the most impressive thing about this video was John Iannuzzi? vertical jump and his broad jump. Nobody be able to jump like that, especially when you almost jump across the width of the gym.

I feel that, after viewing this video, if you are an athlete, strength coach, sport coach, or a father and you want your athlete or your child to dominate these Combine tests, this is the video for you. You basically get hundreds of dollars worth of information in this video, and you get it at a good price. Now, I know a lot of you think that I?m obligated to write a good review, because he gave me a free video. But, I have to say that I never met Joe DeFranco and I will probably never meet him. He?s not giving me some kind of kickback for this review, I feel that the video is that good! I can?t wait until my little nephew gets old enough to go to these combines because I truly believe I have the upper hand.

If anybody has watched this video and would like to add anything I missed, please feel free to write it.

I hope you guys liked the review.

P.S. I would like to see Joe DeFranco do a video on a specific sport, For example, do a video on baseball, football,?. Explain the different techniques, weightlifting, running, agility,?, and give a basic program he uses for his athletes, kind of like the westside tapes.

I have a problem with teaching the transitions in the short shuttle and the 3 cone drill. The problem I have is getting my guys down into that almost sprinter start positiion (at each turn) while reaching back to swipe the line. It’s an awkward position to get in and out of rapidly and I’m not really sure how to effectively teach it? Any suggestions would be great…

Thanx in advance

phil s.,

I’m glad you enjoyed the Combine video! And thanks for writing your unbiased review. I really appreciate it.

And stay tuned as we will be filming a kick-ass video this summer! This video will cover athletic preparation and it will feature many REAL athletes performing REAL workouts. This one is going to be something special!

I too received a free copy and viewed it several times this week.

Complaints: sometimes wind blew into microphone and Joe was almost drowned out. Information totaly blew away info from past coaches.

Praises: TECHNIQUES WORK NOW!!! I didn’t try to do a rep test, but my bench max went up 20 pounds just by using the proper form. I’ll be running sprints tomorrow, so I can test my 40. I love the stance for the 40. Past coaches said to crowd the line, Joe has his guys start past it. AWESOME! Thanks Coach D!

Joe,

Any chance that this video will come out on DVD?

I have not had a VCR in 5 years!

Thanks

Myosin,

No, the video will probably remain a VHS tape. We just had 2000 copies made and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Because I feel that the info in this tape is so valuable, I wanted to try and keep the production of it limited. We have about 200 copies available and then it will be out of print.

The next video that we’ll be shooting this summer will be a DVD. The quality should be a little better as well. Those who saw the Combine video know that the weather here in New Jersey fucked with us a little bit last year. It was a nightmare filming the Combine video. It seemed like it either rained or we had a wind storm everyday last summer.
My goal with the Combine video was to put out the most information-packed video possible on training football players for the Combine. I think I accomplished that goal. The goal wasn’t to have a fancy production company come in and create a “pretty” video with a lot of special effects and a lot of smoke and mirrors. Our DVD is going to follow a similar standard - I’m not hiring a camera crew of geeks to follow me around all summmer. What you’ll get with our next DVD is hardcore action of some of the best athletes in the country training their asses off. This will be coupled with the most informative & practical information available in the world today!

Gotta get back to work!

I have to agree with Joe DeFranco, I don’t care about the quality of the video I care about the infomation that is in the video.
