Decimation Food Log

Are these two things connected? If so you need to set yourself up for success, meal prep and take food with you, or if you’re in a pinch grab 50g of whey dry in a shaker (quite useful to carry this around regularly) then stinky add water and you’re good to go with almost zero effort, that should see you through a lunch break and bridge breakfast through to dinner, have two if you can’t handle the hunger, still only 400 cals for two.

You’ve had a lot of really good advice, hopefully it doesn’t feel overwhelming, you mentioned your wife, I’m curious - does your wife disapprove of the advice here? Is there tension in regards to food/diet or is she happy to let you do whatever you want?

Also, are there budget restrictions that it would be useful to know about? I’m in the UK and give some budget tailored advice if that would be helpful.

Cheers Alex. I was taking protein shake to work. This week was training but normally a shake too is not enough for me to work on. Warehouse.

My wife feels the diet is too restrictive and also too expensive. It is a source of friction yes.
I sometimes end up eating twice because she won’t eat the food I cook. Chicken and rice often etc.

I was taking creatine but recently I have sort have given up on the diet a bit I’m still exercising though.

Food is expensive here . That’s true.

I genuinely cannot understand the mentality that thinks a carnivore approach is too risky but is at peace with eating vending machine chicken samosas.

I intend to give up the vending machine chicken samosa.

I would be absolutely delighted to observe you achieve all of your intentions.

This is because you’re buying fad health foods. Kombucha is EXPENSIVE. But So are chips and ice cream, etc. Chicken breast is not. Nobody is saying go get A5 Wagyu for every meal, just stop eating bread cheese and sausage sandwiches. If you eat chicken/beef, rice/potato, and a veggie every single meal, it would be without a doubt cheaper. Other people are doing it.

I think you also need to truly log what you eat, even the bad days. It isn’t for us, it’s for you. Show your wife what you ate the last 6 weeks and that it caused you to gain 5kg. I am sure it’s a point of contention but your health outweighs all. Gaining 5kg in that time span while working a strenuous job is alarming. That is a lot of calories being eaten that aren’t honestly being logged.

It was the quiet season in work .So we probably didn’t burn as many calories but I was definitely overeating as well…I know I need to up my game massively.

I’m trying out this ice cream maker I got now with protein shakes . The recipes are for the ninja creami. it is essentially the same process though.

I am just going by the recipe but I could make a much bigger bowl.

1/2 pint of semi skimmed milk to 2 scoop of 24 g protein .

Obviously you add seeds and nuts etc.

These two things tend to be calorie bombs, since they’re primarily fat sources.

I’ll just stick to the protein shake and semi skimmed milk then thanks.

just chucked it in the freezer. I may get a ninja creami in time but not yet. Hopefully my wife will like it.

some American weights or old imperial anyway.

I need a longer dumbbell handle that’s heavy duty for some rows plus cheat rows.

Fair enough in the warehouse, but on first aid courses, 2 shakes should be fine, remember it’s ok to be hungry when you’re goal is weight loss.

Assuming this is carnivore? Given your circumstances I would just advocate a basically meat, veg, eggs, fruit and veg diet. Hopefully your wife wouldn’t feel that too restrictive. If your wife cooks the evening meal and that would cause friction then I’d suggest you make a comprise, let her cook, eat with the family, but control the portion where it comes to things that are less than ideal for weight loss (high fat, junk carbs etc). Then be super strict with the stuff you control, breakfast, lunch and snacks (wouldn’t advocate these, if you “need” them, then protein shakes would be my only recommendation).

Ok UK based food recommendations - you’ve got oats - great porridge and protein shake for breakfast. Lunch - chicken drumsticks usually about £2 for a kilo, grab 2 or 3 kilos and bulk cook them (seasons them if that’s your thing, cumin, chilli, garlic, salt, pepper etc - hard to go wrong here), eat a handful of these maybe some hard boiled eggs and you’re full, got high protein and not broken the bank, then dinner with the family. If your wife wants you to eat more fruit/veg or if you do, salad as a side to lunch and blueberries on the porridge.

If that’s helpful and you want more suggestions let me know.

Built my £10 Aldi Crane exercise bike from the tip shops . Took a little while . Feels a bit flimsy like an actual bike.

Froze 12 Oz of semi skimmed milk and two scoops of protein shake.

Always good to get more movement in a day - but losing weight should be diet first, I’m sure you’re well aware but just a reminder… It’ll take probably about an hour to burn 1 chicken samosa.

Assuming this is prepping? With weight loss as the primary goal I’d personally be drinking a shake without milk, go with water that also means zero prep time (I actually never drink shakes with milk, I find it makes them way too sweet for my taste and I’m intolerant, but even before I was I didn’t generally).

A side note on milk, it’s purpose in nature is to very quickly make babies gain weight. Skimming the fat still leaves a lot of sugar.

Well done though, taking on some positive steps towards your goal.

Thanks I am likely to be doing less walking now. I’m on the gate on the yard today. Also less physical work .

I don’t normally have shakes with milk. I will try it with the ice-cream though. I hope it works well.

It’ll be easier to carry ice cream to work than dry powder? :flushed:

I feel like your putting the cart before the horse. Ice cream(of any kind) is a treat. You need to get the rest of your diet squared away. You have no problem spending time making ice cream but won’t meal plan or keep a good log to help set yourself up for success.
Eat great all week and then have a protien ice cream as a reward on friday night. You hyper focused on little parts and pieces but the whole picture is your diet and your way of thinking need a complete overhaul. What you have been doing since the start of this log is not working.

I just did this while watching TV. 12lbs of marinated chicken thigh and jasmine rice.
Cooked all of the chicken at once in the oven and batched cooked rice in the rice cooker as I went.
Total work time is less than 30min and I have meals for the week.

Quick and that’s going to be very cheap meals as well, great prep. Fail to prepare and you prepare to fail!

$34 in chicken thighs and $15 in rice and $4 in marinade. 24 meals in the freezer. I’d say that’s pretty cheap. Just over $2 a meal and 30 min or so of active cooking time. How can you go wrong there.

I’ve been prepping for my dog along with myself, because she was losing weight and needs to be delighted by her meals now in order to eat them. One of the selections this week was chicken thighs and rice, with some smushed green beans and a bit of chicken bone broth mixed in. Looks just like yours, @s.gentz.

Another was ground beef, same thing as the chicken, but sautéed beef.

Another was baked trout with rice.

Lastly was egg casserole, but that’s because she needs to gain weight, and we don’t, so we won’t talk about that. :upside_down_face:

I was eating all of it as I prepped it, and all of it was delicious, mushed green beans and all.

For myself was chicken breasts, shrimp, and NY strip, also mostly with rice, and with steamed veggies and/or salad.

Sure, it took a good chunk of a day off, but it’s certainly not unpleasant to be in my cozy house with the music or a podcast on, making food.
