ORLY?

Ok…I’ve read enough of this thread and now I have to ask about this damn song I can’t stop listening to:

Dark Tranquility-Nothing To No One(opening riff gets me every damn time)

Correct me if I’m wrong but they sound like In Flames with more “thrash.” Yeah…I’m black…and I fucking like it…dammit.

edit and these songs as well:
Mnemic-Pyskorgasm

Machine Head-Halo:

I don’t know why I like them…I just do.

edit again

add Katatonia-The Great Cold Distance(whole album) to that as well.

No problem, rock on.

in 2000, there were about 50 bands similar to Korn, lyrically, all singing about hating your dad, angst, ect…others playing drop D, some imitating the voice, soft during verse, shouting during chorus, others mixing rap elements with metal. ect.

The whole Nu-Metal scene was started by Korn and all were similar sounding to some extent. Crap, here’s 20 to get ya started:

also see Korn Family Values CD.

Big Boss, you like Machinehead? Their insane.

How about Violence? Extreme excellent thrash by the Machinehead guys pre-Machinehead.

Ever hear Life of Agony “River Runs Red” I think that’s the CD? Awesome.

Man…to be honest,I just recently started listening to death and thrash metal…I’m still trying expand on what bands I truly like.

It used be that I only listen to it during lifting…but that type of music is slowly creeping into my truck’s CD player.

I still love my hip hop(actual hip-hop…not Gucci Mane crap like Live)…but I’m feeling alot of these metal bands.

For some reason,I feel that Fear Factory fits somewhere in this discussion.

haha fieldy is… severely lacking in terms of talent. Sure maybe he fits in ok with the group, but as far as skills go he’s pretty damn bad.

If you’re looking for a good bass player as far as metal is concerned, maybe check out the band Pavor - the music is pretty technical and i doubt you’d like judging by the videos you’ve been posting here, but give it a shot

theres absolutely nothing heavy or fast about those, the only similarity is they use bass for a lead sound.

tommy the cat sounds nothing like these

…omg Primus sucks so bad lol.

ha, most the bands on the Amazon list suck but wow you can tell Coal Chamber was listening to a lot of Korn before they put their album together.

Wait…are you saying the bass player from korn is a bass player?

I thought he just banged on the same string for 4-5min, and calls it a day.

Bass Player of Vile, Spawn of Poessession

And most of the Death Metal I listen to either has lyrical content with a philosophy that the bands subscribes to, politics, and only a few that deals with Gore as a lyrical topic.

Actually,Coal Chamber is heavily influenced by Fear Factory(albeit they’re more industrial). Slipknot/Mudvayne is straight up Fear Factory as well. Ironically, you can hear Fear Factory in Korn as well.

Korn is more influenced by Cameo,Funkadelic,Rick James,Faith No More, and TONS of hip hop…especially Public Enemy.

Which was cool until they decided to be something they’re not…they lost their “funk”…literally. You should give Fear Factory a listen if you never have…especially Archetype and Obselete albums:

Fear Factory-Cyberwaste:

Fear Factory-Bonescraper:

Fear Factory-Shock:

Fear Factory - Slave Labor:

Oh yeah…and FUUUUCKK YOU!!!

Nice finds, esp. the first vid.

…Gave up on discussing instrumental skill etc with people long ago…
I don’t talk about music or lifting unless I know the other person is serious about it as well…

Frizzle Fry is a Primus CD and those are some of the songs on it. Check it out. It’s pretty cool.

They’ve probably been mentioned already, but I thought I’d toss in a vote for one of my very favorites, Pig Destroyer. Another awesome band is Behold…the Arctopus.

A couple other random ones I like in no particular order are Acid Bath, Damaged, Bolt Thrower, Brutal Truth, Dillinger Escape Plan’s older stuff, Luddite Clone, Discordance Axis, Gorguts, Nasum, Necrophagist, Vulgar Pigeons, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Gorgasm, Lock Up. Of course, you can’t forget Cannibal Corpse.

You’ll probably notice a bias towards grind in that list, heh.

haven’t read through it but lately I’ve been getting into some heavier stuff(well heavier for me) the one thing that annoys me is sometimes the singers try too rap which never fits.

I just bought disturbed - indestructible today fucking awesome album, I have been listening too the track indestructible for ages now but decided on a whim too buy it

I’ve also gotten the slipknot collection however my favourite songs are the more acoustic ones i.e. vermillion pt 2

Hatebreed:
Destroy Everything
Defeatist
Prepare for War
Spitting Venom
Remain nameless
I will be heard

Sepultura:
Roots Bloody Roots
Ratamahatta

Some Slipknot

Some System of a Down

Earth Crisis:
All Out War

That’s enough for now…
