i made a thread looking for music i like and only 2 people have posted any.

i think the only one who saved the thread before it was all baby killer witch fucking was Esk

You made a thread titled “Decent Metal” and then started whining when people posted decent metal bands instead of the hot topic pop bullshit you were looking for?

Back to the topic at hand, one thing about my life that I regret is not having a video of Detty and I singing along to this in my truck with Buckeye Girl sitting in between us laughing her ass off.

yeah i guess i cant be as hardcore as a song about “runes” and traveling through lakes with viking helmets on pretending i live in the fucking 17th century. thats B.A. dude.

do those CD’s come with free Magic The Gathering cards too?

Wait, so because youre too fucking stupid to distinguish retarded power metal from death metal, then its all the same shit?

Thats a slightly larger leap of faith than me assuming that, because of your posts on this board, youre a snot nosed punk who thinks his community college classes are hard and that his $200 jeans with shit my grandma has on her curtains sewed onto them make him legit. Youre kind of like the 30 year old fat chick hanging out at the mall in her new kids on the block t-shirt. You missed the bus man, listening to numetal and whining about how much of a fuck up you are was cool ten years ago.

By the way, that song I posted was about zombies. Most of that album is about zombies. How the fuck can you not like songs about zombies?
how can you lurk through every one of my threads? i think you have an e-crush on me.

have fun with your ouigi board and studded choke collar.

anyway, anyone have any similar bands to Parkway Drive? those guys are pretty badass.

Dont flatter yourself there Mr. Durst. One needs to see no more than 3 of your posts to come to those conclusions. No e-crush, I just think youre a fucking retard and Im surprised you can muster the mental capacity to bang out words on your computer and then put them into coherent (albiet stupid) sentences.

The ultimate irony is that studded collars and ouigi boards are more the domain of those who listen to the type of crap you’re talking about.

im not a huge Limp Bizkit fan, but i did like a couple of their songs, who didnt in 1999?

i guess you guys skip the ougi and just go straight to having sex with dead people.

you def have an e-crush, mr maggot cunts.

Slayer - Raining Blood

Slayer - War Ensemble

Slayer - South of Heaven

I basically listen to Slayer when lifting, and I listen to Tool (which is better) for everything else. I obviously listen to many more bands, but those are the two major ones.
Isn’t that “Reign in Blood?”

Divine Intervention was a great album.

im asking a serious question here, why are all the metal about the same thing, like archaic otherwordly morbid topics?

i know you guys dont like Korn for whatever reason but they have some diversity, you know? a song like a.d.i.d.a.s. which is about sex and a song like Got the Life which is about just being grateful to be alive.

i ask because unlike hip-hop, rock seems to be catergorized not by lyrics but by the sound. whereas in hip-hop you have gangsta rap which is obviously gangsta themed because of the lyrics but you could use any beat whereas it seems with rock you could use any lyrics but the beat is what makes it fall into the genre, so say you took whatever lyrics from the song above “Reign In Blood” but played them over “Teen Spirit” would it be grunge or death metal?

just something i found curious.

Grunge.

And Slayer is Thrash, not Death Metal.

This deserves a place in this thread.

Chimaira - Resurrection

Perfect moment for a new PR in the deadlift:
“We have become… so powerful
We have become… so powerful!!
OOOOAAAARRRGGGH”

The Acacia Strain
Bless the Fall
August Burns Red
Misery Signals
All that Remains

My favorite metal bands, probably a few others I can’t think of off the top of my head. Saw the acacia strain and all that remains in concert…bad ass. The lead guitarist for the acacia strain is one scary mother fucker.

The acacia strain has some of the best breakdowns I’ve heard, I go crazy when I lift while listening to them.

Gotta love these 2 songs, if you’re into heavier metal.

The song, which I was referring to, is called “Raining Blood,” and the album is called “Reign in Blood.”

I know it is thrash metal, who said it was death metal? The OP asked for decent metal bands, which encompasses all subgenres of metal.

Reign in Blood is a thrash song, not death metal. Just sayin.

And if you did switch the lyrics the song would still be Grunge.

And I listen to all subgenres of metal.

so that brings me back to my original question, if the lyrics dont matter for defining what metal sub-genre then why do they choose to write the same theme of lyrics?

does that also mean you could use the lyrics from Teen Spirit for Reign of Blood and it would still be Thrash?

i just think its kind of peculiar.

Lyrical content has little to do with genre classification in any style of music… And you’re just generalizing about metal themes. For example, Gojira is a death/thrash metal band with lyrics about humanity’s affect on the environment, Nile is a brutal death metal band with lyrics about ancient Egypt, art, and the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, and the thrash metal band Meshuggah mainly writes lyrics about existentialism.

But, like any genre the lyrics do somewhat go with the territory. I mean, look at country music… How many of those songs are about losing a woman, a dog, or a truck? :stuck_out_tongue:

I see. My bad, I should have looked that further back in the thread.

Krisiun released a new album over the summer. Shows how “out of the loop” I have become…

They cover Sepultura’s Refuse-Resist on it. It fucking domniates.

If you’re being serious, then I’ll answer seriously. I think it’s a certain emphasis on counter-culture. Just like Limp Bizkits lyric “I’m going to break your fucking face tonight,” it goes with counter-culture. Since most people are shocked and offended by violence, murder, the occult, and nihilistic views, of course it’s going to tap into that kind of sentiment.

Metal is a genre heavily classified by musical styles, not lyrics. I honestly don’t know how much you know about music (I’m talking about actual musical theory,) but if you did and listened to “None So Vile” by Cryptopsy you’d hear one of the most complex and skilled works of musicianship you’ll ever hear in ANY genre of metal. Things like Korn and Limp Bizkit are NOT good displays of creativity or ignenuity; the music is bland and not very inspired, and truly has been emulated many, many times.

This is also true of bands like Parkway Drive, who are coming onto a post-metal scene that’s heavy with often-repeated breakdowns and a-typical dissonant chords. I know from personal experience that this genre has hit an all-time popularity in the last few years, and a lot of “cookie-cutter” bands are spawning from the genres. This isn’t a dick post, just an honest response.

Damn, how did I miss this? My buddy saw Krisiun when he was over in Spain this summer!

ive never seen a band similar to Korn.

no one has shit on their bassist, period. its what gave them a unique fast and heavy sound that i honestly havent heard since.

i wouldnt say its counter-culture either, i think its music thats supposed to take energry and stir it up in you. thats why you listen to it when youre at the gym, cause you want to get psyched up, its why people headbang and mosh, cause theyre reacting to the music. i think theres only some music you could say dileberately trys to be offensive.

shit, techno gets me going too, but in a different way.
LiveFromThe781 wrote:

I’ll give you that. I was more referring to bands like Slipknot, Godsmack, Disturbed, and all those turd-“metal” bands that all of the high-school eyeliner kids listen to.
