Evile’s bringing back thrash in a big way. Awesome band.

Most mainstream stuff is simple. That’s the problem for me. Heard it all a million times before and it’s not technical/complex whatsoever (with a few mostly pathetic exceptions)…

That’s where I agree. I know everyone’s got their own interests and tastes in music, which is fine, but it’s ignorant when people discount the insane musicianship of some death metal bands simply because of the vocals.

It makes me wonder if people are actually more interested in hearing good music or hearing black-eye lined people whine about being picked on in high school.

Hmm, that is sort of like… say, you can’t go to them gym and bench 500+ raw on your very first day, right? You work up to it… Most people who just got into “working out” stay at that level of thinking (toning and all that bs), but a few sort of get into it more and more… Or present a pic of Kevin Levrone in top-shape to some non-lifter. Guy won’t know what he’s seeing and have a negative reaction… he can’t differentiate between muscle-groups yet, etcetc.
Same with the complex/intricate/technical music styles… People usually start with nu-metal or slay-the-dragon-fantasy powermetal… And work up from there or just stay at that level.

Try to listen to something too alien/complex too soon and the brain just shuts down or doesn’t know what to make of what it’s hearing… Try to bench 500 too soon and… Well, the result is probably somewhat worse than what you get from the musical equivalent ;D

For me, Opeth was kind of a gateway band… After I got over the growling and saw how great they were, I became interested in a wider variety of more complex music. Everything from jazz fusion to brutal death metal.

Moral of the story: Opeth is amazing.

Opeth fans have small arms (HA!).
;D

Kidding, how’s their new album? (my fav was Still Life…)[/quote]

Man, you’re spot on again with Still Life.

I’m starting to think between you, Dezathoth, me, and apparently Skaz and Vegg, we can save this thread.

save it from what?

i made a thread looking for music i like and only 2 people have posted any.

i think the only one who saved the thread before it was all baby killer witch fucking was Esk

Damn, I was just listening to Benighted from Opeth’s Still Life-album when I read this thread. Nice coincidence
Vegg: I gotta say you have a nice avatar. Are you a scandinavian?

OP: Sounds like you would enjoy Nonpoint, check out the songs “Bullet with a name”, “Alive and kicking”, etc. on youtube.

What about Heaven Shall Burn? I fucking love these guys while deadlifting or squatting.

Endzeit

Black Tears

Murder of all Murderers

Architects of the Apocalypse

Let me post this question: How many of Opeth’s albums AREN’T good… eh?

You made a thread titled “Decent Metal” and then started whining when people posted decent metal bands instead of the hot topic pop bullshit you were looking for?

Back to the topic at hand, one thing about my life that I regret is not having a video of Detty and I singing along to this in my truck with Buckeye Girl sitting in between us laughing her ass off.

So far anyone that has posted Mastodon, Anthrax and Meshuggah (along with the other bands they listed) understand metal

I’m surprised these are not on the list:

Darkest Hour
Protest the Hero
Underoath (the non-emo stuff)
As I Lay Dying

my favorite metal band without a doubt is Protest the Hero. They are fucking unbelievably good and unworldly in the talent department.

Metal-core is kinda frowned upon by the die-hards… Which is why it’s not mentioned much.

Kinda like how hardcore bodybuilders frown upon certain “revolutionary” new methods ;D

I would not consider Darkest Hour or PTH to be metal core. I’ll agree with the second two, but the first are without a doubt metal, certainly with punk influence, but then again, so is old school metal.

Good point…

This thread reminds me of my metalhead days in high school.

some of my favs from back in the day:

Opeth=amazing, saw them live a few times

Amorphis-they got really progressive of
late but their early stuff was awesome

In Flames-my personal favs, Colony was a great album

Iced Earth

Dimmu Borgir-their early stuff was the best,
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was probably their best album

A lot of the stuff mentioned in this topic isn’t like that at all. When you ask for “decent metal” most people don’t think of SOAD or Korn.

Entombed- Hollow Man

Evile- Thrasher

High on Fire- Hung, Drawn and Quartered

Strapping Young Lad- All Hail the New Flesh

Strapping Young Lad- Oh My Fucking God

Since you seem to like the nu-metal/metalcore stuff;

Killswitch Engage- My Curse

Hollywood Undead

I’ll be damned if Wintersun doesn’t sound like Dragonforce.

I think Bleeding Through finally got off of Trustkill. I always remembered Brandon being kind of a dick and hanging out with a bunch of dicks. Maybe he’s a better guy now, but I saw him on Headbanger’s Ball and he still seemed like a dick. Good to see his band’s still going good though. I hope they start getting paid for all their efforts.

I think you need to get your ears checked… Dragonforce is terrible. Unless you like tastless cheesy wankery of course.

That’s why no one has been directly responding to him… and this is his fucking thread - LOL. He’s an ignoramus who only spits verbal garbage around this forum. Remember, this was the same guy who was sticking up for Soulja Boy a few months back.
